story about the journeys that shape us.

For Erling Haaland, that journey is just

beginning.

A World Cup decades in the making.

A moment his father once experienced

years ago, and a nation now living it

alongside [music] him.

The journey continues. Like Odysseus

[music] setting sail for the unknown,

Erling and team Norway begin the next

stage [music] of their adventure.

But before the training begins, there is

still time for familiar routines. A

flight, a few laughs, and a lot of time

gaming.

>> It was of course special to meet up with

team and to travel. This is something

we've been working for for years, you

know, so normally on long flights you

sleep. I didn't sleep a second, you

know, because you're excited and

you're looking forward to it.

>> Lovely.

>> Facilities here are really nice. The

hotel is nice, and the weather is good,

so we've been relaxing today, playing a

little bit of golf. Got a little bit

sunburned, of course, as always.

>> We even did a gym or what?

>> And I've been the champ I've been the

champ outside.

>> Congrats.

>> Carrying Martin on my back. He bought a

new golf set for me, by the way.

>> Yeah, I'm sorting out.

>> First time in life I've sorted him out,

and he's not sorted me out.

>> [laughter]

>> Thousands of miles from home, Erling

finds himself [music] interacting with a

different kind of fan. Some know exactly

who he is, others are meeting [music]

him for the first time. But as Norway

prepares for battle, that won't be the

case for long.

>> Just a friendly

>> on the Norwegian soccer team?

>> Uh no, not me.

>> No, not you? Are you

really?

>> I'm the social media guy.

>> [laughter]

>> Y'all are lying to me. Somebody just

told me they wanted you as like the

biggest soccer player in the world.

>> You're looking at him. So, take photo of

both of us and you show

>> And then say which one?

>> No worries, y'all.

>> That's your American southern accent.

>> Southern ease, darling.

>> Not the darling.

>> [music]

>> Greensboro is not a huge city. You can

go anywhere in 20 minutes. It's easy for

them to get around. The roads aren't

crowded, so it's kind of a perfect place

for them. [music] It's really cool to

have a world-class, World Cup,

international team here with these with

these elite players. Brings a lot of

notoriety to Greensboro.

>> It's back to work with the start of

training before game one. The goal was

[music] always qualification. Now, it's

Team Norway's chance to prove they

belong here right on the world's [music]

biggest stage.

>> You can feel the excitement, even me

myself. Got so much energy and I'm so

ready to just

finally

play the World Cup.

>> We have to be confident and

Yeah.

With Erling up front

with Martin behind him with

we've got good chances.

>> Now it's all about training, getting

ready for the game because now I had a

little bit off. I've been relaxing a

little bit. Been playing a bit golf,

been with my family, with my friends.

>> [music]

>> My form and my shape is there, so it's

just about getting back in the rhythm.

Don't try to do anything different now

just because it's World Cup. I try not

to think too much about the games.

[music] Overthink things, I think you

start stressing a little bit, so for me

even now it's the most difficult thing

>> [music]

>> to think of the games, which I I do. I

think of the first game, how it will be

and all of that, but you need to kind of

[music]

put your feelings aside a bit in big

occasions and just do what you do the

best, just focus on doing your job.

>> The confidence is there without a doubt.

We know what to do as a team. I mean, in

In qualification games we won eight out

of eight.

>> Honestly, no matter how it will go, it

will be a successful thing. I know it

sounds wrong, but

>> We qualified for the first time in 28

years. Of course, I want to

go through. I want to go far, all of

these [music] kind of things, but in the

end

Let's just go through and then be happy.

>> [screaming]

>> WHEN I SAW HIM COME OUT HERE ON THE

PITCH, I said, "Oh my god, he's a

Viking." Look at

>> We have been transported back to the 16

or 1700s, and there's a live Viking in

front of us.

You know, it's a smaller stadium, so we

can seat 3,500. [music]

We had requests for over 20,000

seats. There is so much energy, there's

so much buzz around soccer and the FIFA

World Cup.

>> Day by day, the group grows stronger.

New surroundings, new supporters,

[music]

and another opportunity for Norway to

come together before the tournament

begins.

The pressure never completely

disappears, which is why preparation

also means stepping away from it.

Time to reset, time to switch off.

Tonight, that means [music] trading

football for ice hockey.

>> Going to the Carolina Hurricanes

against Las Vegas Knights, Stanley Cup

final. It's the fifth game, it's two to

So, it's going to be one hell of a game.

I'm sure about that.

I think it's good for us to

spend some time out of the hotel as well

and do something else, cuz you

you go a bit mad at the hotel.

>> I don't know if I've ever been to a

hockey game live. I'm lucky.

>> You having it? I'm starting to feel it

now, are you?

America.

>> This is incredible.

Wait and see when we go on the big

screen there.

Perfect.

I've been eating healthy since I came to

US, but now I enjoy some American food

and

me and THE HOCKEY BOYS.

yourself without thinking good ball,

especially in this

days here when it's very

it's building up to something big for

us.

You see a top sport like this, it's

phenomenal. They have so much like pride

for the country. They love the country

so much.

It's everything about it. National

anthem was incredible.

Amazing. I had goosebumps all over.

>> Plays for Manchester United and he's

apparently the best soccer player in the

WORLD RIGHT NOW.

>> [screaming and music]

>> I NEVER EVER EXPECTED THIS. Atmosphere

is unreal.

>> [music]

>> Good to get the head a bit away from

football, think about something else.

Just enjoying the ice hockey, so it's

good.

We're enjoying it. You know, we're not

here for the ice hockey. Of course, it's

nice. But in the end, we're here to to

perform for Norway.

We have to lock in in a few days before

uh

get real.

>> The atmosphere, the energy, the passion

of the crowd. It's a reminder that no

matter the sport, great moments have a

way of bringing people together.

>> Best live experience ever.

>> [music]

>> Boston is [music] a long way from home,

but for Erling's fans who've crossed

oceans to be a part of the experience,

The journey is part of the experience.

>> 28 years ago, Alfie Haaland walked onto

football's biggest stage as a player.

Today, he returns to it as a father.

>> What?

>> Just in case

>> [music]

>> things goes wrong tonight, we at least

we can have a cigar.

>> He's played a lot of big games, but we

can all feel [music] it's a little bit

special today. Representing your

country, being in the World Cup. I

probably will get more nervous than I've

ever been to to a game watching him

play. So,

I'm still looking forward to that.

>> I always tell him, you never know how

it's going to go, but the thing you can

do every time is to give 100%.

I'm very proud of

all my kids, and but obviously this is a

little bit special. I haven't played in

the World Cup myself. It's a little bit

special that his first World Cup,

hopefully will be a couple more, but to

also play here, it's it's special, and

then obviously I'm proud, yeah.

it was good.

I didn't know Mbappé scored two goals.

Uh, the second goal he scored was

amazing, by the way. Messi scored a

hat-trick in the night. We were watching

the game on the

the bus and on the on the plane. It was

uh, incredible.

Uh,

Messi scored a hat-trick.

Then the day after, I think Kane scored

two [music] as well.

So, there's been a lot of goals in this

World Cup and uh

and uh, I mean, the best goal scorers

are playing in this tournament, so it's

going to be uh, it's going to be scoring

a lot of goals. [music] I'm sure of

that.

I don't I don't know. I think yeah, I

think it motivates you, [music] but I

think you're motivated anyways to score

goals and to win games.

Because for me personally, [music] I

don't

of course you thrive on scoring goals,

but you want the team to win, so

doesn't really it doesn't [music] really

matter

who scores as long as you win, but of

course I'm the striker for Norway.

>> [music]

>> You want to score goals and City. You

have to score goals. That's the part of

your job.

But I

probably motivates you a little bit, but

in the end, what motivates you is for me

personally is the

the fire inside of winning football

games [music] and performing well. And

if I perform well as a striker for both

Norway and City,

I should [music] be scoring goals.

>> In the odyssey, every challenge is

followed by another, waiting just beyond

the horizon.

For Erling, the first match is behind

him. The recovery [music] begins, and so

does the preparation for what comes

next.

>> We know each other for the last 3 years.

We know what to do.

>> [snorts]

>> He's used to this kind of stage, this

kind of pressure.

We just stay on top of it and uh

we carry on with the same job and

procedures.

>> So, that's why Mario is with the with

the national team. He's Italian, so

[music] he's

has a bit mixed feelings of being in the

World Cup here now with Norway, so

>> He's teasing, yeah?

>> Yeah, he just scored a few goals against

my own nation, but uh

I can forgive him.

>> I think we can do [music] better and

we've been working on it now in in

training. Try to to get the performance

even [music] higher because when we meet

Senegal now, which is

which is really good. Again, we need to

play at our best to win at the World

Cup. [music] So, there's not nothing to

to leave behind. You need to

show everything you can do and you need

to perform at your best in every single

game.
