Of this great evangelist. Of this great missionary. Chapter 4, verses 7 and 8 say. I fought the good fight. I finished the race. I kept my faith. Now the crown of justice is reserved for me.

Amen? I want to bring you some lessons about this game of life. About these lessons that we learn from the arenas of sport to the journey of faith. And the first truth, let's say it together?

The true champion does not give up the challenge. The true champion does not give up. The true champion team fights to the end. To the end. To the end, he tries. To the end, he fights, seeking the result. Seeking the victory. It looks like a certain team we watched yesterday, right? And then there's a player who got carried away, who got carried away by the whole game.

And then things got even worse for us, not for the brothers. But the true champion doesn't give up. He doesn't give up the points. He fights to the end. And look what Apostle Paul will say, fight the good fight. Let's say this together? Fight the good fight. Because life is much more than a football game. Life is much more than a walk.

The word that the apostle Paul will say for combat is agon. Where does agony come from? Our word agony comes from agon, which is the word combat in Greek, that is, our life is a combat of agonies. Of agonies of the soul, of the heart, it's agony. That is, it's not a walk, life is not a toy. We deal and fight with many agonies.

Agonies of the heart, of our soul, that is, what the apostle Paul is trying to say here is that we are not called to an easy life. We are not called to a full life. And many times this full life will be involved in many agonies that we would not wish to live.

And here the Apostle Paul is saying, fight the good fight. I fought with the agonies of life, with the pains, with the sufferings, with the difficulties. But he will say, fight the good fight. Because there are fights that it is not worth you fighting them.

There are fights that are not worth your effort. It is not worth you spending energy. It is not worth you investing your resources. There are fights that are not simply worth it. It is not worth life. It is not worth our dedication, our sacrifice. That is why he will say, fight the good fight. Because there are fights that are not good. There are fights that are not good.

And how many people do we not see fighting harmful and destructive fights? People think that the real fight of life is to convince who they should vote for or not to vote for. Brazil will live a great fight in the second semester. WhatsApp groups, the flags we raised at the World Cup, which will be identified with political parties. And we are going to live fights.

And the people who were together will separate. The people who entered, all on WhatsApp again, will fight again. Then Christmas will pass, each one in a corner. We need a World Cup again to see if we unite. See if we cheer together for Brazil. See if we row in the same direction. It doesn't matter if we have different opinions.

But we often don't row in the same direction. And what we see here is that there are fights that are not good. And many people give their lives for which fights? We are called to dedicate our lives, to live our call to a fight that is precisely...

Propagate Jesus Christ, proclaim Jesus Christ. And there is no cause for which it is worth dying, giving your life, investing your resources, than Jesus Christ, because no cause is eternal. None. It will stop when you reach the tomb. You can be a former champion, you can be a former champion, you can raise several cups of the World Cup, a gold ball, but all of this will be there in the tombstone.

Because everything that is not eternal is eternally useless. In other words, we play an eternal game.

We play a game investing in eternity, that is, what you invest your resources in, what you invest your time, what you invest your energy, your dedication, wherever you are. You are a missionary, an evangelist, a theologian, you are a disciple of Jesus, called to testify about Him, and so lived the apostle Paul, because he had another profession.

He was a store manufacturer. In other words, he had a profession that made his ministry viable. In other words, you have a profession that makes your ministry viable. You have a ministry. You don't have a profession. You don't have a job. You have a call. Ministry is call. Ministry is service.

And then you fulfill your vocation through gifts, talents, opportunities, influences that the Lord grants you. But we need to understand that there are fights that we leave aside. It's not worth it. But if there is a fight that is worth it, it is to proclaim Jesus. It is to announce Jesus. It is to testify about Jesus. The Apostle Paul says that he gave his whole life.

All his life. Because everything he considered as greatness, as treasure, he started to consider as a stash because of Jesus Christ. And he was not a Jew, he was not a Pharisee. He was from a tribe of elite of Israel. The Saul, the young Saul, Saul of Tarsus. He was a young man who grew up in the best schools of the rabbis of Jerusalem.

And he changed all that to proclaim Jesus Christ. This is the true fight. This fight that you and I need to prepare to face. But there is a second truth about this text. What makes you stop? It's the frustrations, it's the defeats, it's the disappointments, people who are disappointed with faith, with the church, with God. But what Apostle Paul is saying is, I finished the race. And look, Apostle Paul can say about fighting the Christian life in a way that you and I, we don't even imagine. And Apostle Paul is saying, I finished, I concluded, I got there. It's another truth about this text.

That the true champion, he keeps what matters most. Let's say that together? The true champion keeps what matters most. And what is Paul's apostle going to say? You can put it there. I kept faith. Paul was the greatest theologian. Paul was the greatest evangelist. Paul was the greatest missionary. Paul shaped the western thinking.

Through his letters. Paul shaped the world through his theological, pastoral, general letters. And what Paul is saying here is not, I kept my legacy, I kept the ministry, I kept my reputation. No. I kept the faith. Because you go through struggles in your life and keep the faith is for few. And you go through victories in your life and keep the faith is for few.

If you have a lot of money, if you have little money and you keep faith, it's for few. But what we need is to keep faith, whether in much or little, because there is temptation for both sides, both directions. And what you and I need to do is to keep what is most precious to us, because there are fights, there are battles, there are devastating defeats that will make you open your hand to faith.

That you open your hands to communion with God. That you open your hands to communion with the church, but you keep it. You don't open your hands. You say, this is too precious. This is eternal. And you invest in what is eternal. In your eternity. And you keep it. Even in the face of difficulties. Even in the face of trials. Even in the face of struggles.

Have you kept your faith? Because what we keep is what we care about. We only keep what we care about. That is, you have an important document and you will keep that document well. You keep the things you want to preserve. And we need to keep our faith, because it is precious to us.

And everything in this world tries to pull us so that our faith is destroyed. And what are the greatest dangers that you find in your personal journey to destroy your faith? What are the main temptations? The main trials? The main difficulties? We need to complete our race and you complete the race and say: "I kept my faith."

The stories of the cups, they are perishable cups, they are cups that disappear, they are a cup that is limited to the tomb, to the sepulcher. But then the apostle Paul will say the following, I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith, now I am reserved for the crown of justice, that the Lord just judge will give me that day, not only to me, but also to all those who love your life, your coming.

It's very interesting because the apostle Paul will use the crown of justice and this was not the crown of kings. Because there were two terms for the crown in those days, the crown of kings, which was diadema in Greek, and Stephanos, which was the crown of athletes. When you finished a race, a test, he put Stephanos on your head. It was a crown of flowers, olive trees.

That he put, but the next day it was all rotten. It had already lost everything. That is, you fought, fought, fought, fought for that, and the next day those flowers were gone. What he is saying is the following, that the Lord will put a Stephanos in our head, a crown to complete the race, but that does not perish. An incorruptible crown, as he says in other texts.
