improvement pill here welcome to the
beefriend course where I show you how to
0:04
befriend more people today I want to
reveal to you the secret to getting
0:08
better at talking to people
so let's dive right into it so the first
0:12
thing you have to understand is that you
were not born socially handicapped we
0:17
humans are very social species so much
in fact that you can take a baby and put
0:22
him or her in a room full of people and
over time he or she will learn to speak
0:27
purely through observation no one needs
to go up to the baby and say hey that's
0:32
a cat yes cat CA T meow meow say with me
you don't have to do any of that if you
0:39
just talk and go about your daily
activities the baby is capable of
0:44
learning your language by pure
observation and this is because the
0:48
human brain is actually extremely good
and identifying patterns and rules when
0:53
it comes to social interactions which is
basically what language is if you think
0:57
about it
patterns and rules so it's not that you
1:00
were born socially handicapped the
reason your social skills aren't that
1:04
great is simply because you haven't
given your brain enough time so observe
1:08
interactions and become fluent in all of
the patterns and rules in short you lack
1:13
practice and for the most part it's not
really your fault
1:17
because if you think about it in modern
times we spend the large majority of our
1:22
time behind screens interacting with
each other and it's only been getting
1:26
worse and worse every generation I
didn't get a smartphone until I was
1:30
almost like 20 years old but nowadays
most kids get their first smartphone
1:35
before they're even ten and we all know
that it doesn't take much skill or
1:40
practice to accept the friend request
and shoot someone a message we can type
1:44
and use emojis to communicate with each
other but it's really really different
1:48
from actually talking to someone in real
life when you're texting there are
1:52
hundreds of little components that are
not there hundreds of little patterns
1:56
and rules that your brain isn't able to
observe about the other person for
2:00
example things like their body language
facial expressions tonality speed of
2:05
talking proximity eye contact etc these
are all components that you have to pay
2:10
attention to when talking to someone
else in real life
2:13
if you want to make friends but all of
these factors are completely missing
2:17
when you text or message someone using
your magic little rectangle in a way
2:22
talking to people in real life is like a
completely different language the reason
2:27
why your social skills aren't that great
and why you feel nervous about meeting
2:30
new people is simply because you haven't
been giving your brain enough time to
2:35
properly learn this language you're
fluent in texting but you're barely
2:39
passing real-life talking sort of like
how I barely passed Chinese in high
2:43
school the secret to getting better at
talking to people or learning any
2:47
language is to simply get more practice
to interact with more people to give
2:52
your brain more opportunities to observe
and learn the unique patterns and rules
2:57
of this language now you might be
wondering an improvement pill okay that
3:01
makes sense and all but how do I get
more practice well when I was about 18
3:05
years old
I decided to take on what's called the
3:07
hundred interaction challenge to improve
my social skills basically you have a
3:12
month to interact with 100 people it
doesn't really matter how deep the
3:16
interactions are heck you could run up
to people and just say hi and then run
3:20
away and that would still count as an
interaction the majority of my
3:23
interactions during this challenge
involved asking people for directions
3:27
while pretending that my phone died and
that I was lost and although these
3:31
interactions on a surface level seemed
very simple and short I eventually found
3:35
myself transitioning into deeper
conversations and this actually led to a
3:40
whole lot of practice for my brain and I
did see a pretty significant boost in my
3:44
social skills by the time the challenge
was over now a quick little side note
3:48
people always ask me to make a course
for the hundred interaction challenge
3:52
whenever I talk about it but to be
honest it wouldn't really even be a
3:55
course I literally just explained to you
all you have to do but then they'd often
4:00
say something like oh but it'd be
helpful to have an accountability group
4:03
and also if you can motivate us every
day of the challenge so if that's
4:06
something you're interested in I guess
why not I'll make the program cuz I do
4:11
enjoy helping you out all you got to do
is sign up for my mailing list using the
4:15
link in the description box below and
I'll let you know the next time we run
4:18
this experimental program back to the
topic at hand here's a good analogy that
4:23
I want to leave you with when it comes
to getting better at
4:26
talking to people watching videos to
learn social skills is sort of like
4:30
watching videos when you're trying to
learn how to ride a bike yes it can be
4:35
very helpful to watch others do it it
can be helpful to learn exactly how
4:39
bikes even work but the fastest way to
learn how to ride a bike is to just jump
4:44
on and start pedaling sure you'll
probably fall over and over again but
4:47
eventually you'll get it right
eventually you'll figure out how to
4:50
balance properly and this is basically
what happens when you go out and start
4:55
talking to more people sure you'll
probably have a couple of awkward
4:58
interactions but eventually you will
learn the patterns and rules of the
5:02
culture you'll learn what's funny what's
not appropriate and over time you will
5:06
learn how to speak with finesse you will
learn how to balance so just go out
5:10
there and start talking to more people
that's the secret
5:13
hope you guys like this video if you
want to learn more about the theory
5:16
behind making friends I suggest you

5:19
befriend course by clicking over here or
