Hello everyone, I'm Terry. Today, I invited Jerry to share with you the experience of non-engineering engineers and their salary in the big city of Bay Area. Jerry is currently managing a supply chain in a country and has also worked in China and Singapore. In the video, Jerry will also share some of his experience of working in China and his internship experience. So remember to watch it to the end. Today's video is special.
Generally speaking, the audience who come to my channel are all engineering, writing code, or product. And today Jerry is working in a big factory. A fruit factory. A fruit factory. Actually, Jerry is doing supply chain. Just supply chain. Tell everyone a little bit about your work.
So there are a lot of simulations to see which way can reduce the cost of the hospital. Yes, it can reach the maximum solution. For example, the inventory in your storage can't be too high. If it's too high, it's not good for the company's wealth. It's not very efficient. Can you share with us how long you've been doing this? It's been six years. You weren't in the United States before, right? Yes, I was in a country in China. It's weird to say a country.
I was a Chinese engineer in 2017. I worked as a Chinese engineer for two years. After that, I was a Chinese engineer in Singapore. I worked there for another two years. At that time, I thought that life should rest. I wanted to see a different world. So I applied to a school in the United States. Later, I went to MIT. MIT is for... Supply Chain Management. Really, you studied supply chain management in college.
What did you study in college? I studied general management science in college. I taught management at a university. Then I studied MBA at the University of Taiwan. But the MBA at the University of Taiwan doesn't require you to have work experience. Do you have two? I have two master's degrees.
Wow, you are a genius. No, no, the audience of Harry should know that many people came here to study in order to get their identity. I don't like to study, but I read a book and make friends. By the way, there is an OPT who can stay here to work. Two professors are MIT teachers, I don't like to study. Not like to study. Now in China, Singapore, and then study in the United States, I entered the headquarters in California, the United States. Yes, this period has been six years in total. Six years of study.
I often share the engineer's salary on my channel. This episode is more about the support function of non-engineering, non-products. What is the salary of a big tech company? You can talk about the start and how it is now. Many tech companies in the US are divided into IC or level. In the world of operations or supply chain, many things are talking about program managers. Is it a general called program manager?
But my department is quite special We call ourselves Planner Demand Planner or Supply Planner But our attributes are quite like Program Manager Because everyone will own a product For example, you are the Demand Planner of the next generation of Xiaomi phones So IC2 is about 200 total comps? It's about 200
And the base should be around $130. In Bay Area? Yes. The refresher every year may take 20K to 40K. Target's cash bonus is about 10%. It's not the same as what you did in Singapore, right? It's more about the RSU part. Even in Singapore, high income and low income tax places, its RSU is only one-third. Only one-third of the United States. Yes. In places other than the United States, the stock is relatively small. Yes.
So the first time you entered Apple was IC2? Oh no, because before I entered Apple I already had a three-month working experience in Taiwan's HP. The technology field likes to dig competitors. There are exactly the same departments and skillsets. So at that time, I was doing exactly the same thing in HP. Supply Demand Planning.
Is it the first job? Yes, the first job. How much is IC3 package? In Shanghai, China. In China, it is 20,000 RMB. Disclaimer, this is in 2017. Before the beginning of the project. Yes, isn't there a five-star epidemic in China? The so-called epidemic is the 10% of the housing fund. Because I am an outsider, he directly cashed 10%. Plus, I chose Chengdu at that time. There will be a city premium in the second-tier cities. Just let some talents be willing to go to the second-tier cities.
I believe it should be more now Next is to Singapore Singapore's bottom rate is about 8,000 new coins That's a lot higher It's 60% higher than the bottom rate compared to Chengdu And tax But the consumption of Chengdu is much lower Much lower If you are interested in the details of the past salary You can go to the video I made before I have all the income
breakdown to be listed I think everyone should be more curious about your current salary How about in the United States? Give a range Just like me, I finished my master's degree in the United States Then people with 3-5 years of work experience Usually give IC3 IC3, then in general My average student base salary is about 145k It is the standard of 2022 But you are IC4 Yes, I am IC4 Because they helped me work for four years in China and Singapore Considered the annual salary
So IC4 is... It's a base that can be more than 160. When we signed on its contract, it wrote a target 10% performance bonus. As long as it reaches this expectation, it will have 10%. Right. What about RSU? RSU is the RSU you got in the entry and the performance you got every year. The RSU you got in the entry, at that time, the classmate was about 100K.
IC4 IC4 is higher, more than 160. Like our company is divided into four years. Twice a year So you have eight VEST For example, you now get an RSU total number. If you give it eight times and then give it four years, it is one-eighth of every six months. But in the middle, I haven't considered appreciation. Yes, the stock price will rise.
And then you will refresh it every year. Yes. What is its refresh method? No matter how much you got before. This performance review cycle The boss will tell you Refresher, for example, 40,000 Then you start from that time point. Look back again After half a year, add 5,000 up. After a year, take another 5,000 But you have to add what you used to take.
So every time you use Refresher, you add 8 Vestin Tarot cards? Yes. This means that the longer you stay, the higher your Comp will be, especially when you add real value to your stock. Yes. So many people may say that Apple is going to retire soon. Usually, if you want to live more comfortably in the late years, you may jump to Google. When you jump to Google, you can negotiate with Google's HR. Given that I already have so many Apple stocks, I will talk to them about higher Comp.
Yes. But Google has related work in the supply chain. Like now there are Pixel Phone, Chromebook, some hardware for smart furniture. Even a company that stores software, their internal server purchases also require supply chain folks to do it. Or every server, which side of the world do we deploy is more efficient. How to distribute the capacity and storage to different products.
So we are actually a group of Bayer's default software engineers. But in fact, we are a supply chain. It's not fancy and feels like it's been excluded. But I think your total comp is actually similar to software engineers. A little bit lower. Your TC is probably IC4. Not refresh first. The first year is probably 32. It's the same salary as an engineer. Do you think in the sixth year of Apple? Based on your experience in the one area,
Only fans for time. Only fans for time.
After listening to the interview, I believe many people are not engineers, writing code or making products. If you want to come in and make a big company, do you have any suggestions from the perspective of the future? Let's pause for a minute. Thank you Surfshark for sponsoring this video. Generally, everyone's understanding of VPN is to overcome barriers and protect online privacy. And there are many VPN brands.
So why did I choose Surfshark? The most important thing is that in addition to the basic overclocking function, it also protects your privacy and prevents malicious systems. It is also the technology they have been investing in. Surfshark provides not only traditional VPN functions, but also a whole set of perfect information security software. In addition to VPN, online privacy protection, advertising blockade, and search for privacy and anti-drug software, I often see that many people's social media or credit cards have been stolen because they accidentally clicked a link or downloaded malicious systems to the computer.
And these viruses can monitor your every move Including every mouse and keyboard click And your browsing records Then it's very likely that the password of the online bank Or the wallet of the Web3 will be stolen And not only computers There are also very high risks on mobile phones Especially when using public networks
Now Surfshark has put VPN, privacy, security, backup ID, and anti-poison software all integrated into one software. As long as you subscribe to Surfshark One, you can turn on all the functions. And you can also protect all your equipment. If you buy it with my invitation code, you can get a exclusive discount and an additional four months of subscription. If you are not satisfied, you can also refund at any time in 30 days.
I will put the link in the description below Or you can also scan this QR code After listening to the interview I believe many people may not be engineers writing codes or making products If you want to enter a large company like Shibu Do you have any suggestions from the perspective of the future? Actually, you seem to have said it on your channel Recommend people who are studying to intern Actually, it's almost the same for supply chain operations We are usually managerial skills
Right.
So when you are interviewing for the first internship You can talk about these social experience Like me at that time 12 years ago I was an intern at Microsoft in Taiwan That opportunity is very good At that time, Microsoft recruited 100 students every year Then they praised the unlimited science and technology and the results It depends on your previous social experience and personality traits Will you go to school? I will go to school too Not because of all kinds of national schools Private schools have
They advertised this and then I met a group of very talented interns from Taiwan and China. Now everyone is developing in different industries. And then I learned a lot during that year of internship. No matter how companies run their business, how to run projects, how to run activities. And then starting from here, my second internship is in the pharmaceutical factory in Moshadong, Meishan. I interviewed an intern from financial planning.
When I introduced myself, he knew I had an internship at Microsoft. He admitted that your Office must be very strong. Your Excel should be very strong. I did some small tests and then I was admitted. But in fact, what I did at Microsoft was Windows, not Office. But I think this is a little lucky. You do the right thing first, and then it will take you to a more correct and better direction. A lot of things are accumulated one by one. So my third and fourth internship went quite smoothly. I was in Texas Instruments in Texas. Then in Yahoo, it's all big and small.
What do you think they value when they enter Apple? I think they really value your previous experience. Like I said, I was in HP in the previous part. I was also doing Supply Demand Planning. They really like to come directly from the first-hand camp. Wow, there are people with the same skill set. Will it be difficult to prepare for the interview? I think it's okay. Because now some skill sets are learned from my on-job training. So it won't be difficult for me.
and then use more structural methods to list them out. Before the interview, you just practice with these slides. Basically, you can play the game of "The World's Most Unique". OK. For your function interview, you need to take some professional techniques, hard skills. I was asked about a case study at that time. The HR will give you a set of questions three days before the final interview. Such as supply, demand planning, or operation. They will give you some numbers and some simulations. Then you have time to make a decision in advance.
