Learn German | German Podcast | Ep 33: Was bedeutet Glück für dich?
Hello and welcome to a new episode of my podcast. Nice to have you with me. Today I want to talk about a topic that concerns all of us in different ways: happiness. Each of us has probably thought about what happiness actually is. But when we try to define it, we often notice that it is not that easy.
Is happiness a moment, a feeling, or maybe a state that we strive for? Today I want to tell you what happiness means to me personally, how my understanding of it has changed over the years, and why I believe that it is more than just the big, spectacular moments that make us happy.
But over time I have realized that real, permanent happiness can be found much more often in the small, everyday moments that we may not really perceive. It is the moment when I wake up in the morning and the sun shines through the window. Or the feeling when I come home after a long day, put my feet up and can just relax.
It is the laughter with friends, the warm embrace of a loved one or the first sip of coffee in the morning. Such moments are not spectacular, but they give me a deep feeling of contentment and safety. We often chase after the great moments and forget that happiness is already hidden in the quiet moments of everyday life.
These little moments are what enrich our lives sustainably. For a long time I believed that happiness depends mainly on external circumstances. Success in the job, material security, a fulfilled social life. Of course these things play a role, but at some point I realized that true deep happiness has much more to do with my inner state.
It depends less on what I have, but more on how I view my life. For me, happiness is not just a fleeting moment, but a feeling of inner peace and contentment. I have learned that I cannot make my happiness dependent solely on external events.
Instead, it is this ability to find moments of peace amidst stress or challenges. It is the inner attitude that determines whether I feel happy. And often this is connected with gratitude. By focusing on what I am grateful for in my life, I often find happiness in the little moments that make life worth living.
This conscious attitude helps me to recognize the beautiful things in everyday life. Another important aspect of happiness in my life are the people around me. I have noticed that real, deep connections to others have an enormous influence on my personal happiness. The feeling of being understood and accepted the way you are contributes an incredible amount to my well-being.
It is often not the big social events, but the small intimate moments that make me happy the most. A deep conversation with a good friend, laughing with the family or the feeling of being with a loved one simply without having to meet expectations.
All this gives me a deep feeling of connection and satisfaction. It is this feeling of being part of a network of people who love and support us that always shows me how crucial such connections are for my happiness.
Another important insight that I have gained over the years is that happiness is not a fixed state that you achieve once and then keep forever. Happiness is a process. It changes. It comes and goes. There are days when I feel incredibly happy and others when this feeling is hard to grasp. And that's completely fine.
I used to think I had to reach certain goals to be happy. But today I know that the way there can often be as much fun as the goal itself. It is the small progress, the challenges that you master on the way that give me the feeling of being alive and enjoying life to the fullest.
For me, happiness also means living the moment and not constantly waiting for the great, perfect happiness to come into the future at some point. It's already there, in the little things we overlook often. In the end, happiness is something different for each of us. What for me means happiness may have a completely different meaning for someone else. And that's completely fine.
There is no universal definition of happiness and that is good. It is important that we take the time to recognize what makes us happy and learn to value happiness in our lives as it is. I hope my thoughts have inspired you to think about your own happiness. What does happiness mean to you?

Today I want to tell you what happiness means to me personally, how my understanding of it has changed over the years and why I believe that it is more than just the big spectacular moments that make us happy. In the past I thought that happiness was the big moments in life, the dream job, the perfect vacation, reaching a long-awaited goal.
Of course, these are wonderful events that make us happy. At least for a while. But over time I have noticed that true, permanent happiness is much more common in the small, everyday moments that we may not really perceive. It is the moment when I wake up in the morning and the sun shines through the window.

Of course, these things play a role, but at some point I realized that true, deep happiness has much more to do with my inner state. It depends less on what I have, but more on how I look at my life. For me, happiness is not just a fleeting moment, but a feeling of inner peace and contentment.

It is often not the big social events, but the small intimate moments that make me most happy.
It is this feeling of being part of a network of people who love and support us that always shows me how crucial such connections are for my happiness. Another important insight that I have gained over the years is that happiness is not a fixed state that you achieve once and then keep forever.
