It's funny how the most horrible things

in the world

happen on ordinary days

that dawn with sunshine and the smell of bread.

Daily life is treacherous. They

take it away without warning, then you just sit there

remembering,

remembering,

remembering.

[sighing]

[music] I think this only happens

because there is a substantial flaw in

human evolution, and we continue to love what we have

already lost.

Years and years of natural selection. And what a

useless thing that is! [music] Of losing

something you love very much

and not being able to lose the

love you feel right then and there,

washing it away in the shower,

evaporating it on the clothesline. [music]

And I suspect

that's why

man learned to speak [music] and

to write and to sing. That's where you leave

that weight.

In music, we invent truths,

embrace the dead, and bad days are born

ugly.

Literature and art are tricks

[music] to compensate for this

substantial flaw in our nature, of not

being able to break the bond when something is

broken.

Love doesn't choose where it goes.

Here's my choice.

[music] This text is mine.

You still cut my nails there.

I'll tell you about my new house, my

children that I don't yet have.

The most beautiful things about my most

ordinary days.

If all that remains are my

words, then I decide here and now

that all my love will forever reside in them
