كيف نصل إلى القلب السليم؟ | د.أحمد العربي | بودكاست بدون ورق
This heart that keeps working all the time,
We should explain it today
So that we can understand this heart
You appear before people in a good image
But what is inside of your heart?
What do you hide inside this small organ?
Do you have the love and will of Allah?
The quick repentance to Allah?
Or do you hide other things?
- How does the heart darken? - The devil knows the importance of my heart
More than I do...
Because he knows that if your heart is righteous...
You'd survive him
That's why the devil is so keen on manipulating the heart
You seek to be righteous?
And I do too
What to do? we seek the reformer of the righteous
The Prophet's most recited Dua (prayer) was...
"O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion"
"Work for One; that's enough for all people"
"A good deed brings light to the face,"
"A shine to the heart,"
"Abundance of sustenance,"
"Strength to the body,"
"And the love of the others."
How can we prepare for the day of Judgment?
"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"
"But only one who comes to Allah with a heart..."
This isn't my first podcast...
- I know... - Have you watched something for me before?
Yes, I did
- What about you? - For sure
Of course, the episodes of Dr. Naif Nafie and others
I also watched parts of Dr. Mutlaq's episode
It is very nice
- About the construction of Ka’ba - Yes
We intended to film an episode about Hajj (Pilgrimage)
But our discussion turned into the history of the construction of Ka’ba
And the concepts reflected throughout the journey of its construction
Whether during the time of Prophet Ibrahem or afterwards
Until the Prophet -pbuh- and the Hajj rituals
But we discovered concepts that are broader than the pilgrimage
Turning the episode to this way....
- Praise be to Allah - Indeed
Thanks to Allah for the good fortune, as sometimes we'd prepare a certain discussion,
But we wind up in a different path
So, we seek to commit to our axes of discussion
But because we are "Bidon Waraq"
Feel comfortable to discuss any idea you have during the episode
You don't need to strictly commit to our topics
That's an excellent thing
- So, welcome, Doctor... - Thank you
- Welcome to Kuwait, we're honored - Thank you
I'm happy to be with you
- It's an honor - As your episodes are beneficial
That have a good impact
I ask Allah to keep your beneficiary work
And to keep your impact in people's hearts
And to raise your status in both lives
- Amen - Amen
This is out of your kindness, I always strive to meet the good expectations
Our topic for today is very important
Which is the topic of the heart
The heart in Islam and as Allah had described it
Our hearts work all the time wherever we go
The hearts and the senses never stop working
And our hearts reflect on our behaviors
They reflect on how we think and behave
So, this heart that never stops working
We should explain it today
So that we can understand it
What impacts it either positively or negatively?
And how did Allah define the human heart?
We could begin from here, what do you think, doctor?
How can we define the heart?
Praise be to Allah, the lord of all creations, and peace be upon the most honorable of the Prophets
Muhammed, his family, companions and everyone that followed them until the end of time
I thank Allah for bringing both of us to this meeting, Sheikh Faisal
And I thank you for your generous invitation
And I ask Allah to guide us
During this episode to what satisfies Him
In fact, the topic of the discussion was interesting
As talking about the heart is very important and crucial
Because it can determine our success in this life and in the afterlife
"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"
"But only one who comes to Allah with a heart..."
Notice how He didn't say "Good deeds"
Or good appearance
Nor a good image or looks
Rather, with a heart
And this heart must have a specific characteristic
Not any heart...
"But only one who comes to Allah with a Sound heart."
Which brings a huge problem
That people should ponder and think deeply about for a long time
To see if their hearts are sound?
And if they'd managed to achieve this goal?
That might seem easy at first,
But it is a crucial goal
Is my heart sound so that I can survive in the day of Judgment?
It seems easy
A sound heart survives in the day of judgment
So, how to achieve such sound heart?
- It seems simple but is it easy? - It's a very difficult feat
That's why Prophet Ibrahem made a prayer about it in Al-Shuara chapter
He said "The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"
This is the father of the Prophets, the upright one with the pure heart
Despite that, he always feared and reminded himself
And argued with his people,
He said about their idols "Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,"
And he added "Then do you see what you have been worshipping"
"You and your ancient forefathers?"
"Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,"
During this argument with them,
He continued to argue with his people
Talking to them about their idols and false gods
It was a situation of intense and strong argument
"Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,"
Then he began introducing Allah to them
And when he did, it was as if his heart softened
And his soul rested
Peace be upon him,
He said "Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds,"
"Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me."
"And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink."
"And when I am ill," By myself...
He didn't attribute this action to God
"And when I am ill, it is He who cures me"
"And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life"
"And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense."
Then, it seems as if he'd left them then began raising his hands in prolonged prayers...
Praising Allah with devotion
"My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous."
"And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations."
"And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure."
"And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray."
"And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected"
"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"
"But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart."
So, this was Ibrahim, the father of the prophets, peace be upon him
The upright that the Allah ordered our Prophet Muhammad to follow his suit
And to follow his religion
And to take his path
Despite that, he said "And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected"
He feared having a heart that isn't sound
He feared having a heart that doesn't rescue him in the day of judgment
May Allah protect and save us
As the unsound heart is exposed to disgrace in the day of judgment
"And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected"
"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children"
"But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart."
He made this prayer in Al-Shuara chapter, and it was answered to him in Al-Safat chapter
"And indeed, among his kind was Abraham, when he came to his Lord with a sound heart"
Praise be to Allah
Now, I have a question in my mind
The prophets feared not having a sound heart in the day of judgment
How about the normal everyday people?
When we hear such stories
We must learn a lesson
Because if the Prophet and Ibrahem -pbut- thought like this
How about us? the simple people that sin?
We are incomparable with the Prophets
How can we prepare for the day of Judgment?
This is a great matter
It is also magnificent
Talking about this topic is magnificent
Because the companions, despite being who they are,
The highest in status of the whole Ummah (Nation)
Despite that, they feared it immensely
Because they saw how the Prophet -pbuh- acted around them
He used to say "O' Changer of Hearts" a lot
The Prophet's most recited Dua was
"O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion"
So, Um-Salma asked him:
Imagine, the Prophet of Allah that received the revelations
The one that Allah had chosen as a mercy to all creations
Our master, peace be upon him, says:
"O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion"
So, Um-Salama asked him "O' Prophet of Allah,
We believed in you and in your message, do you still fear for us?"
"Do you still fear for us?"
Because she was confused when He recited that prayer
So, the Prophet -pbuh- replied to her:
"There is no heart that is not between two of the Fingers of the Most Merciful. Changing it as He wills"
As if he'd tell her "How can I not fear for you?"
When our hearts are between Allah's fingers, changing them
For a certain situation to another
Hearts change, that's why the companions...
As in a Hadith narrated by Abu-Huraira...
Abu-Huraira was the biggest narrator of Hadiths in the nation of Muhammed -pbuh-
No one had narrated more hadiths than Abu-Huraira
That's why he's the first among the seven prioritized narrators of Hadith
Seven companions among the thousand had narrated from the Chosen one
Abu-Huraira, Saad, Gaber, Anas
Asmaa, Ibn-Abas and Ibn-Omar
So, Abu-Huraira is the biggest narrator of Hadith
He accompanied the Prophet and gather more of Him than any other companion
Among the many Hadiths he had narrated...
There's one that when Abu-Huraira even thinks of telling, he'd sigh and faint
Which is?
This Hadith narrated by Abu-Huraira
From our Prophet -pbuh-
In which He -pbuh- says:
"The first three with whom the fire will be enflamed on the Day of Judgement."
"A scholar, a reciter, and a Mujahid (fighter)"
A scholar, a reciter, and a Mujahid?
Which are the highest three positions in the nation
The most people known as righteous in the nation
As everyone seeks to...
Have a hand in science, Quran or Jihad
Correct...
Despite that, those three categories
Are the first to be enflamed with fire in the day of Judgment
The Prophet -pbuh- said:
"The first three with whom the fire will be enflamed on the Day of Judgement."
"A scholar, a reciter, and a Mujahid (fighter)"
"The scholar is brought in..."
"Allah then says to him:"
"For what have you learned?"
"To which he replies: I learned and taught for you"
"But Allah tells him: you lied"
"And the angels tell him: you lied"
"Rather, you learned to be called a scholar"
A hypocrite...
May Allah save us...
May Allah save us
May Allah save us.
To be said: He worked and exerted efforts...
For worldly aims
For him to hear good words from others
His intention wasn't for Allah
His heart didn't have Allah in it
His heart wasn't directed towards Allah
Neither he'd worked towards Allah
Nor he'd sought Allah's satisfaction
So, Allah tells him...
And you can't fool Allah
For every scholar that acted in hypocrisy
May Allah protect us,
You can't fool Allah even if you'd fooled his servants
That's why I always say, Sheikh Faisal,
That the day of Judgment is the day of surprises
Why? because what's in the hearts will be revealed
Now, we see the bodies and images
I see you, and you see me
We see each other in a good image
But in the day of judgment, the situation is different
"The Day when secrets will be put on trial,"
"Then man will have no power or any helper."
Secrets are revealed
What's hidden within will be shown
What people hide will be uncovered
That's why they say:
"O'God, I learned and taught for you"
But Allah answers them that "You've lied"
And the angels repeat it "You've lied"
"Rather, you learned to be called a scholar"
"And so had happened"
Then, he's pulled by his face to the hell fire
May Allah protect us...
May Allah save us, then the Mujahid is brought in...
To be asked: "For what have you fought?"
He answers: "O'God, I fought and died for you"
But Allah tells him "You've lied"
And the angels say: "You've lied"
"Rather, you fought to be called brave"
"And so had happened"
The last phrase holds an important meaning here, Sheikh Faisal,
What is this meaning?
That their reputation was good in life
Their reputation was good among everyone
They'd describe them as scholars or brave warriors
Or as generous givers and donors
The satisfaction of people doesn't mean the satisfaction of Allah
May Allah protect us,
The satisfaction of people doesn't mean the satisfaction of Allah
Even if they were praised across the east and the west
This doesn't mean that Allah is satisfied with you
As long as you have unhealed heart problems
Even if you were praised by all creation
And if all tongues praise you
Believers find it as a good sign if happened...
Believers find joy when their heart is sound
When their intentions are purely for Allah
With their works for Allah
If so happened, and people began praising them
Then, this is as the Prophet had described as "This is the glad tidings which a believer receives (in this life)"
"The glad tidings which a believer receives"
Which is positively received by the believer that did good deeds
But it doesn't change his intention
Because if it did, he'd have strayed away from the right path
"And a scholar who did not act upon what he learned"
"Will be tortured even before the idol worshippers"
"A scholar who did not act upon what he learned, will be tortured even before the idol worshipers"
As per said by scholars
Imagine, the Buddhists, the atheists and the infidels
And the people of oppression and tyranny
Of all times, will all stand there
Waiting for their judgment
Waiting to be thrown in hell fire
But Allah instead brings those three praised and popular categories of people
Ordering them to stand before all humans
And they'll be the first to be inflamed in the hell fire in the day of judgment
Because their hearts weren't sound
Because their direction wasn't towards Allah
Because their destination wasn't to Allah
So that they become an example
That's why Abu-Huraira would sigh and faint
As such thing forces me to always ponder in my heart
To focus on it, fearing the entrance of any impurities that may contaminate it
This makes me always afraid and terrified
It makes me ignore the people
Not caring about them
"As Allah doesn't look at your images or bodies"
"Rather, He looks at your hearts"
This is where God looks.
Allah looks at it and sees what's within it
You might appear in a good image before people
But what's inside of your heart?
What do you hide in this little organ?
Do you keep the love of Allah and quick repentance to Him?
Or do you keep something else?
That's why this heart...
With few good deeds...
When it's sound, they become many
And when it isn't sound, even the many good deeds
Will fade away and become useless
That's why they say that pondering in your heart is the trade of the smart
Pondering in your heart is the trade of the smart
- Why so? - Why indeed?
Because the heart...
A person might perform only two Raka's
With a sound heart that seeks Allah
And those two Raka's become massive for Allah
While others might pray many Raka's with a neglective heart
With a heedless heart that doesn't glorify nor love Allah
Making these Raka's worthless for Allah
Ibn Al-Qaym told a great saying regarding this matter
He said "Deeds aren't measured by their large quantities or many types"
They aren't measured by their large quantities or many types, then what?
This is how we measure the value of deeds
How do we measure their value?
As deeds aren't measured by their large quantities or many types
"Rather, by what is inside the hearts"
So, two deeds might look the same
While the difference between them is as between the sky and earth
So, it isn't necessary that when you perform a certain deed
You'll be rewarded, as you aren't dealing with a machine
Rather, with the God of all creations
Beautiful...
It isn't about the exterior looks
It isn't as you'd mentioned
It isn't a machine that responds to what you do
You won't simply be rewarded for the good deeds
No, what's in here is what matters
What's inside your heart?
What do you hide within you? in here...
That's why the Prophet -pbuh- expressed this meaning while addressing and warning his companions
"Piety is here"
"Piety is here" pointing to his chest
Repeating it three times
"Piety is here"
"Piety is here, piety is here"
Never think that it's all about good looks
As two deeds might look the same, as Ibn Al-Qaym said,
Imagine, if I and another person stood in the same line during a prayer
The Imam recites the same verses that we both heard
And we recited the same prayers
We both took the exact same time in our prayer
But the prayer of one of us will be of more value than the other
Why? because of what's in his heart
Which is huge problem, Sheikh Faisal
That people must be aware to the concept that the heart is the ruler
The heart is what elevates or reduces the deeds
"A Derham might be better than one hundred thousand Dirhams"
One Dirham donated by someone
Might be better than one hundred thousand Dirhams
Why? because of what's in the heart
For what's in the heart
I'll tell you what's even greater, which is a story that I greatly admire
We have a very delicate and beautiful story in our Sunnah
The hero of it, if any of us sees him,
If any of us sees the hero of this story...
We might belittle and think less of him
And we might think to ourselves
If we hadn't even uttered it
That he will never enter heaven
The Prophet -pbuh- tells us about a person who killed 100 people
- Killed 100 people? - Yes
The amazing thing that before he'd killed the 100th person
The first 99 people might have been bad people like him
But the 100th person is a devout worshiper
A devout worshiper
"There was a person before you..."
"Who had killed ninety-nine persons"
"Then he wanted to repent"
Praise be to Allah...
There's nothing against repentance despite how many sins
Which a blessing from Allah to him
"And then made an inquiry about the learned persons of the world (who could show him the way to salvation)"
"He was directed to a monk."
"He came and asked him whether there was any scope for his repentance to be accepted.
But this monk might have thought as I'd told you now
That a person who had killed 99 people
Then you want to repent? so he told him that "No"
The Prophet -pbuh- then added "He killed him also and thus completed one hundred."
Now, the 100th person was a monk
What's amazing is that even after killing this monk
He still sought to repent
Then, he asked about a scholar and was directed to one
Then he asked him "Could my repentance be accepted?"
After killing...
Such crime is badly perceived
"After killing 100 persons"
"Could his repentance be accepted?"
The scholar then answered him "What could stop you from repentance?"
"Go to a certain land"
"There are people devoted to prayer and worship"
"And you also worship along with them"
He then immediately without any delay...
And it seems like his heart was honest
It seems as if what in his heart was real delicacy
A true will to repentance
So, he went on his way to the land which the scholar told him about
While in the middle of the road on his way
Death came to him
Now, our friend here feared to be tortured
Because he hadn't reached this land
After the scholar told him that he must arrive to the land first
He didn't make it, so he was afraid
So he began, and notice this beautiful expression,
"He crawled upon his chest (and managed) to slip in the land of mercy."
In the midst of his death, he began crawling upon his chest
Attempting to go there even by crawling
Even if he'd to crawl
Or just by pushing his chest forward
The amazing thing is that he never made it there
And when he died, the angels of mercy and punishment both came to him
"And there was a dispute between the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment."
To which he should go? the angels of punishment mean hell-fire
While the angels of mercy mean heaven
So, the angels of punishment said:
"He'd killed 100 persons"
Such crime ought to be punished by hell-fire
But the angels of mercy said:
"This man has come as a penitent and remorseful to Allah "
Which is my point
Despite what he'd committed against Allah
But the angels of mercy saw how he sought Allah with his heart
So, Allah revealed to them...
That "You measure the land to which he has drawn near."
In reality, our friend was closer to the land of evil and corruption
But due to Allah's great blessing to him
And due to Allah's generosity to him
And due to Allah's mercy upon him
Praise be to Him
The Prophet -pbuh- said "Allah then ordered the land to get closer"
"And the other land to get further"
And when they measured the distance, they found him closer to the land of piety
And with this he entered heaven
Allah changed the laws of earth for an honest heart
Allah changed the laws of the world for an honest heart
The topography changed for an honest heart
Which shows the importance of the hearts
Hearts achieve what deeds can't
And raise people higher in life and afterlife
Without a lot of deeds
The Prophet -pbuh- said "Many a person with shaggy and dusty hair,"
"Dusty and driven away from doors"
because of their poverty and shabby clothes
One that people might even not notice
Nor care about
One that you'd want to ignore if he'd knocked on your door
"Were to swear by Allah, Allah will certainly make it happen"
"Were to swear by Allah, Allah will certainly make it happen"
Why? because despite his dusty appearance, his heart is righteous
But his heart is righteous
That's why you might wonder
When scholars talk about Abu-Bakr
You find that Abu-Bakr was the best human on earth after the Prophets and Messengers
There isn't a man in the whole world that's greater than Abu-Bakr
Al-Bashar said "The greatest of all creations is Ahmad (Muhammed -pbuh-)"
"Peace be upon him, the best master he is"
"After him is Al-Khalil (Ibrahim), and One spoken-to (Musa)"
"Then Noah and the Spirit (Esa), as they are the Messengers of strong will"
"Then the Messengers, the Prophets, and the Angels"
"Then The righteous Veracious (Abu Bakr), then the devoted"
After the Prophet -pbuh- and the messengers of strong will,
Come the Messengers, the Prophets
Then Abu-Bakr (The veracious)
May Allah gather us with him in heavens
But then you don't find scholars glorifying him in worships
As they do with other companions
As when Jihad is mentioned, Khaled Ibn Al-Waleed is mentioned
When Omar (Ibn Al-Khattab) is mentioned, he represents strength in Allah's religion
Muadh (Ibn Jabal) represents knowledge
"He most knowledgeable of them concerning the lawful and unlawful"
When Abu-Ubaida is mentioned...
He represents honesty, as he's the trustee of the Ummah
And so on, while Abu-Bakr contributes to each of these types
But he isn't prioritized in any of these types
As much as other companions
But Bakr Ibn-Abdullah Al-Muzani says:
"Abu-Bakr has not preceded in the amount of fasting and prayer."
"Abu-Bakr has not preceded in the amount of fasting and prayer."
"But with something that was fixed in his heart"
With something that was fixed in his heart
"His heart was unlike any other companions'"
That's why he will be called by each gate of the heaven
A man that's Truely amazing
With an amazing will
In getting closer to Allah by following the real means towards Him
The Prophet -pbuh- says:
"One who is constant in Salat (prayer), will be called from the Gate of Salat"
"And whoever is eager in fighting in the Cause of Allah, will be called from the Gate of Jihad"
"And who is regular in observing Saum will be called from Ar-Raiyan Gate."
Abu Bakr then said: "Will anybody be called from all of those gates?"
To which he replied "Yes, Abu-Bakr, and I hope that you will be one of them"
What a great tiding
"I hope you'll be one of them" why?
Because this man had a different heart
He had a different heart
"Abu-Bakr has not preceded in the amount of fasting and prayer."
"But with something that was fixed in his heart"
That's why the importance of the heart is so great
Sheikh Faisal...
May I speak with you now
About this topic that I wanted to start with
But we were carried to a very important point
The Ummah now is hurt
The Ummah is now hurt
I ask Allah to favor our brothers in Gaza
And to save and have mercy on them
You see what happens to them
And you see what the damned zionists commit against them
I ask Allah to punish them as bad as possible
And to enable Muslims to defeat them
And to allow Muslims to overcome them
The Prophet -pbuh- talks about this situation
In which the Ummah has fallen into
A tough situation
A humiliating situation
The nations have gathered upon us
The Prophet -pbuh- says:
"The people will soon summon one another to attack you..."
"As people when eating invite others to share their dish."
All nations are summoned against us
They all cooperate against us
They all gather and collaborate to humiliate us
And to reduce the Muslims and to remove their presence
Why is that?
The Prophet -pbuh- said: "The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish."
"Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time?"
Will we be too few so that can do this to us?
Because the companions would have never accepted this
They refuse such thing
No one on earth could have done this to the companions
"Will we be too few?"
Will be exterminated and removed?
"He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time"
"But you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent"
"And Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy"
"And last enervation into your hearts."
- So, what's the reason behind our current situation? - The hearts
The hearts that became weak
The enervation is the weakness and humiliation
Hearts that aren't truly attached to Allah
That aren't Truely honest with Allah
That aren't Truely directed towards Allah
And aren't truly seeking Allah's satisfaction
"Then they asked: What's is enervation, O'Prophet of Allah?"
"He replied: Love of the world and dislike of death."
Love of the world and dislike of death.
When these hearts are attached to this Dunya (life) and its desires
To the appearances and ornaments of Dunya
Causing them to stray away from Allah
Because the love of Dunya and the Afterlife never gather in one heart
Whoever is attached to Dunya, Allah will distract him from the Afterlife
Whoever is attached to Dunya, Allah will distract him from being attached to Him
"He replied: enervation is the love of the world and dislike of death."
So, how can we be victors and return?
The Prophet -pbuh- said: "You are given help and provision..."
So, there is a way to provision
"You are given help and provision..."
"...because of your weak ones"
With their sincerity
And their Dua and prayers
- Because of our weak ones? - Yes
The weak ones? could you explain it a bit more?
"You are given help and provision"
"because of your weak ones".
With their sincerity
And their Dua and prayers
The sincerity by clearing the heart from anything but Allah
So, you and me and everyone watching us now
If we did our best to clear our hearts from anything but Allah
And to remove Dunya and desires and sins from our hearts
Making our hearts sound
Only then, the Ummah will take its way to provision
- So, this is the solution? - It is
And there is no solution but it even if we had the weapons of the whole world
And even if had the might of the whole world
If our hearts weren't attached to Allah
I swear, we'll never prevail
That's why, I made sure to talk about hearts in this meeting
Because we don't realize how important and crucial this matter is
While the companions paid a great deal of attention to it
That's why when the companions heard during the battle of Mu'ta
In the battle of Mu'ta
While on their way to the battlefield
They suddenly heard that the opposing army has almost 200,000 soldiers
Which is an enormous number
This shock the companions
How many were they?
They were around 12,000
12,000 against almost 200,000
Which is unimaginable
At that time, stood among them...
Abdullah Ibn Rawaha
He began motivating them and said "O'people..."
"What you hate is what you went to seek..."
What you hate now, which is confronting the enemy
Is exactly what you went out for
"And we don't fight people with equipment or preparations"
"Rather, we fight them with this religion"
What an amazing word
"And we don't fight people with equipment or preparations"
"Rather, we fight them with this religion"
That's why Qutayba Ibn-Muslim Al-Bahili, during one of his battles
He watched his soldiers prepare for the battle
Each one is getting prepared
When he looked, he didn't find Muhamad Ibn Wase'
He didn't find Muhamed Ibn-Wase'
Where's he?
Everyone is getting prepared and wearing their battle gear
While Muhamed Ibn-Wase', the leader in the battle wasn't found
So, he sent on of his men to find Muhamed Ibn Wase'
When he searched among the army, he didn't find him
So, he kept walking down the army until he found him alone behind the army
Leaning on his spear and raising his finger to the sky
Praying to Allah and asking Him to favor the Muslims
This is how Muhamed Ibn-Wase' was like
Leaning on his spear
Raising his finger to the sky, praying to Allah
When the soldier saw this, he was in awe
Then returned to Qutayba and told him exactly what he saw
Then, Qutayba Ibn-Muslim said to him:
"I swear that Muhamed Ibn-Wase's finger..."
"Is better for the army than a thousand sharp swords or strong young men"
This finger that prayed to Allah with sincerity and submission
Is better for Qutayba...
Than having 1000 strong soldiers
Or 1000 invincible weapons
"Is better for the army than a thousand sharp swords or strong young men"
This how they thought
"You are given help and provision because of your weak ones".
Meaning that any woman watching now has a great means in her hands
- Any woman... - Watching us now
Has a great means in her hands to favor the Ummah
What is this means?
It's sincerity and prayer
By praying and repenting to Allah
By the prayers of your weak
And their sincerity and prayers
By clearing the heart of anything but Allah
Making Dua is the great weapon that we have
I swear that it is
Until Allah allows us
To have the material weapons
You mentioned the material side
Which is exactly the point I was about to ask you
We live today in a materialistic world
We see it and recognize its power
How did the 12,000 Muslim soldiers think
Against the 200,000?
Did they sense an external force present among them?
But the difference between the believer heart and the one attached to the world
How does it recognize the material power around it?
And the person who is attached to Allah
I'd like to know how both receive life
Excellent, which is a question that Allah had answered
Allah answered it in Quran
In two verses
Allah said: "Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power"
"Including steeds of war,"
"To strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies"
Notice how Allah said...
"To the utmost of your power"
- Just that? - Yes
Not a power that's equal to them...
Nor equipment equivalent to theirs
No, but the utmost of your power
To strike terror into the enemies of Allah, your enemies
So, when Muslims exert their utmost power
While prioritizing the attachment and dependence on Allah
Allah will favor them
But if they just considered their numbers and equipment alone?
Without considering the first stage which we're discussing now
The stage of clearing the heart but from Allah with sincerity and prayers
Allah answers to us in Al-Tawba chapter, in a great verse
"Allah has already given you victory in many regions"
"And [even] on the day of Hunayn, when your great number pleased you, but it did not avail you at all"
When Muslims one day thought...
That their numbers grew large
And that they could never be beaten now
One of them said "We won't be defeat because we're too few today"
Meaning that if all Muslims now prepared all their troops and equipment
And thought their power and numbers will grant them victory
Allah won't favor them until they're attached to Him
So, being attached to him is the first cause of victory
Then come the other reasons which are important too
And very decisive too
Without a doubt, the matter of preparation and planning
Is important for Muslim now
But the first stage of the hearts must be strongly present
When Muslims found pride in their numbers...
It didn't help them at all
"And the earth was confining for you with its vastness;"
"Then you turned back, fleeing"
Muslims were defeated at the beginning of the battle
And they began scrambling
They ran in every direction
Leaving only a few people around the Prophet -pbuh-
But the Prophet -pbuh- is the strongest believer of all creations
And has the most obedient heart of them
And the bravest and strongest one against enemies
He stood up and began calling for his companions and saying "O'people of Samura, O'people of Al-Baqara"
Then continues to assert that "I'm the prophet, no lie, I'm the son of Abdul-mutalib"
"I'm the prophet, no lie, I'm the son of Abdul-mutalib"
"Come to me, O'worshipers of Allah!"
Then orders his uncle Al-Abbas
To repeat his calling "O'people of Samura, O'people of Al-Baqara"
Until everyone heard this calling
"I'm the prophet, no lie, I'm the son of Abdul-mutalib"
The narrator of the Hadith then continues that the companions began rushed to the Prophet
Just like how cows rush to their calves
They returned again after the Prophet had reminded them of the Quran
After he'd reminded them of the allegiance they attributed to him
After he'd reminded them that he's the Prophet of Allah
And that we should only be attached to Allah
They returned and Allah favored them afterwards
So, those are two inseparable things, undoubtedly
But whoever achieves more in both
The attachment of Allah and clearing the heart to Allah
And to cleanse the heart of anything but Allah
If we became so, the scales will turn
"How many a small company has overcome a large company"
- By what? - What?
Allah says:
"How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allah"
Amazing, "by permission of Allah"
Allah permitted them to win despite their small number? Yes
They won, and Allah favored them over their enemy
That's why Allah says in the last verse of Al-Saff:
"O you who have believed, be supporters of Allah,"
"As when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who are my supporters for Allah?"
"The disciples said, "We are supporters of Allah."
"And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved."
"So, we supported those who believed "
"So, we supported those who believed "
Not those who prepared
Not those who are well-equipped
But "So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant"
So, the first step is always the faith
The first step is to fix the heart
And to prepare and clear it from anything but Allah
Until Allah favors us over our enemies
Before we talk about how to cleanse the hearts
I'd like to talk more about the practical steps, Doctor
And how the devil harms the heart
So, in practice, how can a person's heart weaken?
What can a person do to negatively affect his heart?
Then we can talk about how to cleanse the heart
But how does it get worse?
In fact, Sheikh Faisal, the devil is so focused on the heart as it knows its importance
The devil knows the importance of my heart more than me
And knows the importance of your heart more than you
Because it knows that if your heart was sound, you'd survive it
"Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you no authority"
So, if your heart was sound, you'd survive it?
You'd survive the devil
That's why the devil is so keen on applying its evil on the heart
Ibn Abbas said about the Quran verse...
"From the mischief of the Whisperer (of Evil)"
Ibn Abbas said: "The devil puts its mouth on the human's heart and whispers"
If the human was in negligence, it whispers and when the human remembers Allah, it stops
So, the devil is really focused on the heart
And so keen on throwing in humans' hearts what bothers them and reduces their faith
It whispers hatred, envy, malice, resentment, and many other heart diseases
And if the human didn't reject them
Nor he'd denied them
Sadly, he'll be carried away with the devil
And faith will be erased from his heart
So, how does the devil whisper to the heart?
By urging him to hate others
And to envy others
And to resent others
And to be arrogant
But if someone oppressed me, surely, I'll hate him
How can a person differentiate?
It's normal to hate whoever oppresses me
Are there different types of hate?
Or is it an entryway for the devil? I'd like to dismantle this point
Excellent, there's a slight difference between the normal and innate anger
And the demonic anger
Between the normal disapproval towards someone
Due to any type of inconvenient or hurt
Or because of apparent and clear oppression
Each has its limit, but to allow this anger and hatred to prolong in the heart
Driving me to hate other in an excessive way
Because of what he'd done
And in order to clarify more
The amount of hatred or anger against anyone
If he'd clearly and undoubtedly oppressed you
Then, it's okay
As it is normal for people to be angry when angered
And to be upset when hurt
This is a normal innate feeling
But the problem is when I escalate it
Until my heart is filled with hate towards a large portion of people, not just him
- Like his children, cousins or tribe... - And to hold others accountable for him
And I reflect my hatred of him on everyone that reminds me of him
Which might even make racist, like how if someone from a certain nationality hurt me
Then, I'll reflect that on the whole people of his nationality
Exactly, that's why humans must pay attention to such things
That's why the Prophet -pbuh- said:
"The disease of the nations before you is creeping towards you"
"Envy and hatred"
"Envy and hatred"
That's why to reconcile between disputing parties
Is a great matter to reach a sound heart
Even lying is permitted only then
Why is lying permitted when reconciling between disputing parties?
Because disputes eat away the heart
Disputes eat away the heart, what's my proof on that?
The Prophet -pbuh- said:
"The disease of the nations before you is creeping towards you"
"Envy and hatred"
"It is the Haliqah (shaver). I do not speak of what cuts the hair"
"But what severs the religion"
If the heart was filled with rivalries and enmities
And envy
And hatred towards others
Faith is withdrawn from the heart
Religion is completely pulled off of his heart
It shaves it off as mentioned in the Hadith
"May Allah have mercy on the shavers..." (repeated ×3)
Then they asked him "And who cut it?" "And who cut it too" He added
Shaving is removing the hair from its roots
That's why the Prophet wanted it to be so clear to them
I don't say it shaves the hair
But constant rivalries and enmities...
It doesn't shave the hair, but the religion
That's why the Prophet -pbuh-
Used to tell his companions: "do not nurse enmity against one another. Do not sever ties with one another."
"Do not be jealous of one another"
"And be brothers to one another as He commanded. "
"And be brothers to one another as He commanded. "
Never involve yourself with such enmities and rivalries
So that faith isn't pulled from your heart
Constant rivalries and enmities
That's why we were asked to avoid arguments
Why were asked to avoid arguments?
Because they damage the heart
The Prophet -pbuh- said: "I guarantee a house in Jannah for one who gives up arguing, even if he is in the right"
- Even if he is in the right? - Yes
We might have an argument, and you know you're right
While I'm unaware of a certain thing
So, if you decided to give up arguing with me
In order to preserve my friendship
In order to keep a clean heart towards your brothers
That's why some predecessors when hearing something about their friends
They'd ask whoever is talking to stop
Telling them "I'd like to keep a clean heart towards my brothers"
This might be a reason why gossiping...
Yes, God is great
That's why when some people told some predecessors about their others...
"Someone is saying this about you"
Which is a form of gossip
To which he replied "O'brother, this person shot an arrow at me..."
"It didn't hit me"
"But you took it and put it in my heart"
Meaning that he'd said a word and I didn't know about it
I'm unaware of it
But you took this arrow and put it in my heart
That's why gossiper don't enter heaven
"A backbiter will not enter Paradise" As in Al-Bukhari
Why? because he corrupts the hearts
It's a great deal that people practice without awareness
That's why I told you...
People now are unaware of the matter of the hearts
Even if I'd known that someone spoke ill of me, I still resort to Allah
Knowing that Allah defends the believers
If you were spoken ill of, and accused of false things
While if you allowed them to carry you on
And if you sought to know them
Your religion corrupts
It gets corrupted
But if you are busy with Allah
"Work for One;"
"that's enough for all people"
Which is a beautiful statement
"Work for one; that's enough for all people"
I swear that if we honestly headed towards Allah
And our hearts were sound for Allah
And cleansed for Allah
Allah will certainly take care of anything that bothers or hurts us
Or anything that might tire or anger us
If we headed towards Allah
That's why the Prophet -pbuh- said:’ "O you who accepted Islam with his tongue,"
"While faith has not reached his heart!"
Be cautious and have some faith, people...
And allow this faith into your hearts
"Do not harm the Muslims"
"Nor revile them, nor spy on them to expose their secrets"
"For indeed whoever tries to expose his Muslims brother’s secrets, "
"Allah exposes his secrets wide open, even if he were in the depth of his house"
- Even in the depth of his house? - May Allah protect us
So, the matter is crucial now, which is what?
That humans must pay attention to their hearts
And how "The disease of the nations before you is creeping towards you"
What is it? "Envy and hatred"
It severs the religion
It severs the religion
May Allah protect us
They say...
If you find Allah, what would you lose? And if you lose Allah, what would you find?
I always try to remember this to help me sometimes
I think if people always asked it to themselves
They'll begin to wonder and see the truth
Everything is lost without Allah
The companions had something...
Like a sensor that constantly monitored this matter
How is my heart now with Allah?
Is it sound? or is it not?
Because they know that if they'd lost Allah
They'd have lost everything
To lose Allah, is to lose everything as you'd said
Ibn Al-Qayem said: "Everything can be replaced if lost"
"Except for Allah, nothing replaces Him"
"Everything can be replaced if lost"
"Except for Allah, nothing replaces Him"
As like with a predecessor that whenever he felt some stiffness in his heart
So, he went out on the street to find something that brings him back
Maybe a brother that reminds him of Allah
Or a gathering of religion or virtue
Or a mosque in which he can pray to Allah
He went out and found a woman that had hit her child
Which angered the child
And left the house
And the mother shut the door behind him
The child took a few steps outside
Then stopped
Then looked to his right and found no one
And to the left and found no one
So, he returned to the door of his mother
Then sat before it
And began saying "O'mother, who shelters me if you didn't?"
"Who shows me mercy if not you?"
"Who shows me compassion if not you?"
So, the mother opened the door while crying
She hugged him and said "I shelter you"
"I shelter you, I show you mercy and compassion"
The mother said so while crying after opening the door
The man then returned and said "Now, I've found my heart"
After seeing this moving scene
"Now, I've found my heart"
Because he knew his only solution was to sit before Allah
Praying to him: "Who can fix my heart if not you?"
"Who shelter me if not you? Who shows me mercy if not you?”
"Who appeases me if not you?"
Praise be to Allah, that's why when Hanzala went through the same thing
The matter of the condition of my heart
When Hanzala felt that faith slightly reduced in his heart
He went on the street searching for what to do
He kept walking until he found Abu-Bakr
So, he asked him, as Abu-Bakr is the closest person to the Prophet
He told him "Abu-Hanzala is a hypocrite..."
I've become a hypocrite
They fear hypocrisy and the change of their hearts
The fear of reduction of faith
"What's happening, Hanzala?" He replied to him
"O' Abu-Bakr, when we are with the Prophet of Allah..."
"He reminds us of the heaven and hell until we almost see them"
As if we see them
Which shows how the Prophet had used to preach
And how he'd reminded his companions
Then he adds "But when we leave him..."
"And we begin handling our children, wives and works"
"We forget a lot"
We aren't in the same state of faith
Which is hypocrisy
And because Abu-Bakr was also fearful for his heart
He became scared
He said "I swear, Hanzala, I feel the same as you"
"I swear, I feel the same as you"
"Let's go to the Prophet of Allah"
And so, they went to the Prophet -pbuh-
And they told him how they can almost see the heaven and hell when he preached to them
But when they return and get busy, they forget a lot
To which the Prophet -pbuh- replied to them
"O'Hanzala, if you stay like how, you are with me"
"The angels would have greeted you on the streets"
"But allow yourself sometime of both"
The Dunya is essential
You must work hard and earn Halal money
You must handle your children and spouses
But you must also allow the time to increase your faith
The time in which you protect your heart
And your religion, and the level of faith in your heart
So that if it was reduced, you must seek a gathering of religion or virtue
Or to good friends, or to prayers and Dua
And to worship Allah, with prayers and long kneeling
And the things that renew one's faith
What's the importance of praying on time?
It's very important, not only prayers
Because according to the idea, and in order not to be overwhelmed with the world
It's important to keep prayers on time
As how many people could be lenient with this
"We could pray in an hour"
But why is this structure important so that you don't lose your heart
Through which you could move in other areas too
Prayers are called by Allah as faith
And I've had a previous episode about prayers
May people look it up
Which is important regarding that meaning
Prayers are the same as faith, they increase faith in the heart
And you just turned my attention to a very important concept
That if you ponder at the times of the prayers
How do you find them?
You find that prayers are intensified during the busiest times of the day
So that you never forget Allah
And that your faith isn't reduced
As once you get busy with the world, the prayer of Al-Dhuhr comes
Once you leave the house at 10 or 11, soon comes the time of Al-Dhuhr prayer at noon
And after two more hours, the time of Al-Asr prayer comes
And the same before Al-Maghrib prater
Then Al-Isha'a prayer
So, it is as if the prayers have a grip over your day
So that your faith isn't reduced in your heart
Which is what I sought to ask you about
As you'd said, when Abu-Bakr and Hanzala went to the Prophet -pbuh-
He told them that they must still engage with this worldly life
With your children, works and responsibility
But they feared to forget about their faith
And I mean that if people could ponder in prayers
We could consider that prayers are a tool, in addition to it being a type of worship to Allah
But it also protects the heart when performed in such order and intention
Then, I think it could help anyone to protect himself
Undoubtedly, it is the best thing to protect the heart
The greatest thing that helps a believer keep his heart
Nothing is greater than it, Sheikh Faisal
We could talk about attending lessons or gatherings of virtue
Or about reading a book
Because some people think they don't need to pray as long as their heart is sound
Which might be whispered to them by the devil
"As long as your heart is sound and you're a good person"
"Then, you don't need to pray"
This is how the devil can sneak in from
Which is a common misconception for some people
"Since I have a good heart"
"Other things are mere practices"
But there's a connection between prayers and protecting the heart
Such as the tools that through which we worship Allah
Even through the supererogatory prayers too
They bring us closer to Allah and fix our hearts
If we understood how to perform them
This is my point
It's true, which is a misconception for some people
They might waste or become lenient
Getting busy with the worldly desires and sins
Yet think they have a sound heart and don't need prayers
Which is absolute delusion
This is one of the greatest tricks of the devil
Because neglecting just one mandatory prayer could perish the heart
Haven't you heard the Prophet's Hadith:
"He who leaves the Friday prayer for three Fridays on account of slackness, Allah will print a stamp on his heart."
There's a tight link between types of worship and the heart
They influence and benefit the heart
"Faith will be worn out in the body of one of you just as clothes are worn out"
Because the nature of faith is reduction over time
So, we must always keep raising its level
As the Prophet -pbuh- had said:
"Renew faith in your hearts"
So, renew faith in your hearts
Renew it with worshiping Allah and getting closer to Him
By heading towards Allah
A man complained to Um Al-Darda' about stiffness in his heart
So, she replied to him that: "Your disease is the hardest disease"
Complained that he finds stiffness in his heart
To which she replied "Your disease is the hardest, go visit the ill"
"Follow the funerals, and visit the graves"
Visit the ill, follow the funerals and visit the graves
And so, he did,
And he managed to soften his heart again
So, he went back to Um Al-Darda' thanking her
Now, there's nothing called...
For the matter of neglecting worships
It causes the heart to darken
The immersion in sins
Causes the heart to darken
It is impossible...
For a person immersed in sins to have a sound heart
Ibn Abbas said:
Listen carefully to these dangerous words...
Ibn Abbas said:
"A good deed brings light to the face,"
"A shine to the heart,"
"Abundance of sustenance,"
"Strength to the body,"
"And the love of others."
"While sins blacken the face,"
"Darken the heart,"
"Shorten the sustenance,"
"Weakness to the body"
"And the hatred of others"
Which is crucially important
When people don't realize these things
"A good deed brings light to the face,"
It brightens the face
"A shine to the heart,"
It illuminates the heart
"Strength to the body,"
"Abundance of sustenance, and the love of others."
People will love him
Because he worships Allah with sincerity in secrecy
That's why Allah makes people love him
You'll find that people love him without knowing why
You'll find people approaching him without know why
Why do they easily feel familiar around him?
Why do they love him so much?
It's a grace by Allah
And because of his worship to Allah
"While sins blacken the face,"
"Darken the heart,"
"Shorten the sustenance,"
May Allah protect us
"Weakness to the body and the hatred of others"
People repel from him and don't like him
Sins perish and darken the heart
They hurt and tire it
There's a Hadith that's a pillar regarding this topic
There's a Hadith that's a rule in the topic of hearts
The hearts which we are talking about now
Two Hadiths are essential regarding them
The greatest of them is the one narrated by Al-Numan Ibn Bashier in Al-Bukhari and Muslim
"In the body there is a piece of flesh, "
"And the whole body is sound if it is sound,"
So, the sound exterior is linked to the sound interior
Salman Al-Farsi said: "Whoever fixes his interior..."
"Allah fixes his exterior"
What does it mean to fix one's interior?
- The heart - Yes
Allah fixes his exterior, which is his external matters
That's why the Prophet says in this important Hadith:
Narrated by Al-Numan in Bukhari and Muslim
"What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear,"
"But between them are certain doubtful things"
"He who guards against doubtful things keeps his religion and his honor blameless,"
"But he who falls into doubtful things falls into what is unlawful,"
"Just as a shepherd who pastures his animals round a preserve will soon pasture them in it."
"Every king has a preserve,"
"And God’s preserve is the things He has declared unlawful."
"In the body there is a piece of flesh,"
The use of the word flesh here is to downplay it
Because of how small and little it is
But it controls all the body
Because it's what controls and orders the body
It's the king, with the organs as its servants
So, the heart for the worshipper in the world is his means and pride
And in the afterlife, is his protection and sustenance
It's his means and pride in the world
And his protection and sustenance in the afterlife
On which he'll be held accountable, and with which he'll be scaled
He'll be scaled according to the faith in his heart
"In the body there is a piece of flesh, and the whole body is sound if it is sound"
"But the whole body is corrupt if it is corrupt."
"It is the heart.”
Now, the second Hadith regarding the topic of hearts is a beautiful one
The Prophet -pbuh- said about who exposes himself to desires
And to sins and transgressions
Then at the end claims...
That his heart is sound
You're fooling yourself!
And lying to it
For whoever neglects mandatory prayers
And wastes the limitations of Allah
For those who disobey Allah's orders
All while ignoring and neglecting their hearts
Those are in a great danger
They should be warned
And activate the emergency measures
You're in a great danger
The Prophet -pbuh- said:
"Temptations will be presented to men's hearts"
"As reed mat is woven stick by stick"
To all of our hearts
My heart and yours are constantly presented to temptations
One by one...
Or in some narrations "Repeatedly"
Meaning they keep coming and going
Why? so that Allah tests our hearts
You might be tempted to see a Haram thing
Or tempted to sit in a gossip gathering
Or to hear a bad word
Temptations might hit you
Whatever they were
What will you do regarding them?
"Temptations will be presented to men's hearts as reed mat is woven stick by stick"
"And any heart which is impregnated by them"
"Will have a black mark put into it,"
"But any heart which rejects them will have a white mark put in it."
"The result is that there will become two types of hearts: "
"One white like a white stone"
"Which will not be harmed by any turmoil or temptation, so long as the heavens and the earth endure; "
"And the other black and dust-colored like a vessel which is upset,"
"Not recognizing what is good or rejecting what is abominable, but being impregnated with passion."
What does it mean?
What is a heart white like stone?
A heart by fighting off sins and sheltering from them
A heart that protected itself from sins and their places
And kept away from those who remind him with sins
And those who drive him to them
Or help him to them
Stayed away from all of this
This is how a heart denies sins
This heart becomes white like stone, unharmed by temptations
Which later on becomes immune
With which he can fight off sins and temptations
Nor he'll enjoy sins
Nor he'll be tempted to sin
No, his soul is now at peace
And these are the levels of heart cleansing, Sheikh Faisal
Hearts are cleansed when temptations are presented to us
But we reject and repel them with determination
Until we achieve this level of heart strength and purity
But the other type of hearts...
That easily accepts temptations
He looks to what's Haram
He listens to what's Haram
He sits in gossip gatherings
He doesn't care about what might reduce his faith
Until his heart becomes black
He said "black and dust-colored"
Showing how immensely dark it is
Very dark
"Like a vessel which is upset" or a flipped cup
If this cup right here...
If it was empty, I'd have used it as an example
But it's full
If I were to flip this cup upside down
Then I attempted to pour coffee in it
While coffee fill it when it's upside-down?
It's impossible
"Like a vessel which is upset", or like an upside-down cup
It won't accept any faith to be added to it
Nor accept any love for Allah
Nor any type of worship
Nor responds to any type of advice
"If a heart dies, advice won't help it"
"Like a heathland, rain doesn't help it"
"If a heart dies, advice won't help it"
"Like a heathland, rain doesn't help it"
This is how he'll become, doesn't respond to advice
Doesn't get pushed to virtue
Doesn't get warned when you warn him
"Like a vessel which is upset, not recognizing what is good"
"Nor rejecting what is abominable," So, how does it work then?
"But being impregnated with passion"
His pleasure
He does what he pleases
She pleases to dress immodestly, and she does
He wants to hear what's Haram, and he does
He wants to have Haram relations, and he does
But where's your heart?
You are perishing your heart
You're Pershing your heart
You don't know the value of your God
You don't want to cleanse your heart for Allah
Ibn Al-Qayem says such beautiful words, Sheikh Faisal
Such beautiful words
Ibn Al-Qayem says "One of the most wonderous things is to know Allah and not love Him"
"One of the most wonderous things is to know Allah and not love Him"
"And to hear His calls, then delay your answer"
"And to know the profit in dealing with Him, then deal with others"
"And to realize the amount of His anger, then still expose yourself to it"
"And to taste the pain of sinning against Him..."
"Then you don't seek refuge in worshiping Him"
Such wonderful words should be written with gems
Written with gold-water
"One of the most wonderous things is to know Allah and not love Him"
"And to hear His calls, then delay your answer"
"And to know the profit in dealing with Him, then deal with others"
"And to realize the amount of His anger, then still expose yourself to it"
"And to taste the pain of sinning against Him..."
"The pain of sinning against Him..."
"Then you don't seek refuge in worshiping Him"
This man that doesn't purify his heart
Nor seeks to cleanse himself of sins and mischiefs
Such person loses the greatest pleasure in this life
He lost the greatest pleasures of life
A man came to Ibn Al-Qayem and told him that he finds dreariness in his heart
I no longer enjoy worships as I used to
I no longer find the beauty of God's remembrance as before
I no longer taste the joy of Dua as before
"I find dreariness in my heart, what to do?"
To him, Ibn Al-Qayem replied "If you enjoy sins..."
"Then, abandon them and find joy"
Because committing sins forbids the person from heart purification
It forbids him from attaching to Allah
It forbids him from the pleasure of worship
It forbids him from the joy of obedience
It weighs on him
So, when you later on ask him to do something
He replies that he's tired
"Let's pray at night?", but he replies that he's tired and should sleep
Let's enjoy two Raka's in the deep night...
Which worshipers used to find joy in
Which they considered as their best pleasure
As Abu-Suliman Al-Darani said:
"The night worshipers find more joy than the night amusement seekers"
"We have a pleasure that if Kings knew about, they'd have whipped us with swords"
"Earth has a heaven, whoever hasn't entered it will not enter the heaven of the afterlife"
Where do you stand from such pleasures?
- Where are you? - That's for people with higher levels of belief
With high levels of heart purity
But I'd like to go back to the person who...
As in a previous episode with Dr. Jaser...
He talked about characters that when listen to Dua
Their hearts don't move
They don't feel the Dua
And they don't feel their prayers
While they might want to reach this level of pleasure
With Dua and prayers and to pray at night
And we'd like to discuss this position in which they are
As there's a large portion of people...
That want to feel more and get closer to Allah
Where's the path to that? what can I do?
While since we wake up until we sleep
I'm attempting to reverse what you'd mentioned in a practical example
We are exposed to temptations
So, we either resist such temptations all day long
Or we accept them
So, I'd like now to move from the heart
Before talking about the black heart
Which isn't just detached from Allah
It's cowardly
Meaning that there are even worldly things...
In which they might think they're winning, but in reality, they aren't
So, they've lost the world and the afterlife
Leading them live in anxiety
So, being attached to such materialistic things
This is regarding the religious things
Which might not be so clear
But such people don't win even in this world
That's right, the people of the world are poor, as said by Ibrahim Al-Adham
I swear, they're poor people, Sheikh Faisal
So, if we haven't tasted this pleasure
What pleasure could ever come close to it?
"The people of the world are poor, they lived and never enjoyed the best of it"
"What's the best of it?" they asked
He said "Remembrance of Allah and finding joy with Him"
"And finding joy with Him"
I swear by Allah (twice)
Nothing in this world is more pleasurable than a heart attached to Allah
And the refuge to Allah
The greatest thing in the world is the longing to Allah
And the greatest thing in the afterlife is seeing the face of Allah
These aren't my words, but Ibn Al-Qayem's
He said "The greatest thing in the world is the longing to Allah"
"And the greatest thing in the afterlife is seeing the face of Allah"
Ibn Al-Qayem said: "Nothing in this world is more pleasurable than longing to Allah"
"And seeing His face"
"Those are the greatest graces for a man"
"Nothing in this world is more pleasurable than longing to Allah"
"And seeing His face"
"Those are the greatest graces for a man"
But when Ran (filth) covers the hearts
Appealing them to this world, busy with sins and pleasures
They will never find this pleasure
They've lost the greatest pleasure in life
Ibn Al-Qayem said: "I swear by Allah..."
"If hearts were sound,"
"They'd have been torn with sorrow"
"If hearts were sound, they’d have been torn with sorrow"
"But they're drunken in the love of this Dunya world"
"And they'll eventually be awakened"
"But they're drunken in the love of this Dunya world"
"And they'll eventually be awakened"
Yehia Ibn Muath said: "Dunya is the wine of the devil"
"Who drinks from it, will awaken only with regret"
"Among the camp of the neglective dead"
Whoever immerses himself in the pleasures and temptations of this Dunya
Seeking to find wealth in it
Focuses only on the prestige
Focuses only on the position
Focuses only the adornment and splendor of the world
When will he ever seek joy in Allah?
Such person won't awaken until he's being held accountable between the hands of Allah
After he'd wasted the real pleasure and beauty of life in the obedience of Allah
And wasted the afterlife and wasn't among the safe ones
And will never see the face of God
I swear, if men knew that by not fixing their heart
They waste such chance
Such thing should be enough to melt their hearts
It should devastate them
When knowing that they might not be allowed to see the face of God in the afterlife
How will they be not allowed?
When sins accumulate on the heart
They create Ran (filth) on the heart
The Prophet -pbuh- said:
"Verily, when the slave (of Allah) commits a sin,"
"a black spot appears on his heart."
"When he refrains from it, seeks forgiveness and repents, his heart is polished clean."
"But if he returns, it increases until it covers his entire heart. And that is the ‘Ran’"
"Which Allah mentioned in Quran:"
"Nay, but on their hearts is the Ran which they used to earn"
So, repeated sins...
Create the Ran over the heart
Create a coat of filth and muck over the heart
This is the Ran
It blocks the person from seeing Allah's face in the day of judgment
Consider it as you wish...
Not being allowed to see the face of Allah in the day of judgment
Allah said: "Nay, but on their hearts is the Ran which they used to earn"
Then immediately: "No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned."
So, if you think about this, may Allah protect us,
If you think about a person...
That might be forbidden from seeing the face of Allah
Because of his sins
These should be the harshest words for them to hear
And should never allow this
Just this reason is enough for people to quit all their sins and repent to Allah
And to prepare this heart to see the face of God in the day of judgment
"Nothing in this world is more pleasurable than longing to Allah"
"And seeing His face, those are the greatest graces for a man"
Allah says as in the Hadith
To the Muslim in heaven on the day of Judgment:
"O' my servants, are you pleased?"
They will reply: 'Why should we not be pleased, O' God"
"When You have given us what You have not given to any of Your creatures?"
"Allah will say: "
"Shall I not give you something better than that?"
"They will ask: 'O God! What can be better than that?"
What is better than the heaven?
And better than surviving hell-fire?
Then, the cover is unveiled
Which nothing will be more pleasing for the believer's hearts
Than seeing the face of their God
Even in the heaven, nothing is more pleasing for the believers...
And to the hearts...
And softer to their souls...
Than seeing the face of their God
Which is the greatest thing
May Allah grace us with it
"O' you who replace all of this, with quick cheap profits"
"As if you don't know, but you will..."
"If you don't know, it's a disaster."
But if you do, it is a greater disaster"
I'd like to talk about how to fix the heart, Doctor
We all have read in the beginning of Al-Baqara
Allah says: "In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease"
So, some people have diseases in their hearts
And want to get rid of it
I don't think that any Muslim person around
Wouldn't want to get rid of these desires
And to become stronger than them
And to find peace with your religion
And to get even closer to Allah
No one will refuse this
Everyone wants this, but...
We'd like to know about the path that the Prophet -pbuh- spoke about
And let's mention evidence from Quran
Through which we can know the correct path the Muslims should follow
An excellent question that's important after talking about the dangers of the ill heart
And the corrupt or neglective hearts
The importance of achieving a sound heart
How can we achieve a sound heart?
How to seek and achieve the purity and cleanness of the heart?
Because this is the greatest destination for a believer
Even before worshiping
I want to tell you, Sheikh Faisal,
That Prayer was made obligatory during the Night Journey and Ascension after years of Prophet's mission
Fasting and Zakat were issued 15 years after the mission of the Prophet
And Hajj is even later on
But the purification of heart was since the first year
Or even the first days
When Allah said: "O you who covers himself [with a garment]"
"Arise and warn, and your Lord glorify"
"And your clothing purify"
Ibn Al-Qayem and the majority of interpreters across all ages agree...
That clothing here refers to the heart
"And your clothing purify"
Don't neglect your heart, purify it
If we ask, what is the ruling on learning things that purify the heart?
It is an individual obligation upon every person
An individual obligation upon every person to learn how to protect his heart
"Protection of hearts from the devil, is an individual obligation upon every man"
As said by a Shenqiti follower:
He wrote a long poem about the individual obligations upon each Muslim
Among which he mentioned learning how to worship
And learning the true faith
And what purifies the heart
Those are the three obligations
He said "Learning about the true faith"
"Is a clear must"
"And learning how to correctly worship"
"Like learning about Wudo, Prayer, Hajj, Fasting and Zakat"
"And learning about the medicine of hearts, is a must for every person"
You must learn what purifies the heart
What purifies the heart?
This is very important
Otherwise, you'll be lost
It's an individual obligation upon you to learn what purifies your heart
How does your heart purify?
Firstly, to know that it requires a lot of self-control
And to hard work
Because it's a great deal
Imagine that Ibrahim -pbuh-, the father of the Prophets,
Was afraid and said "And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected"
"The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart."
Which is matter that's worth the hard work
It's worth enduring hardships and troubles for
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said "Faith is not by desire"
"Nor by pretending"
"But it is what is fixed in the heart, and proven by the actions"
"Whoever uttered and did good, will be accepted"
"While who utters good and does else, will not be accepted"
Faith isn't by desire or empty words, Sheikh Faisal
It doesn't work like this
What's your evidence of your faith?
"The Bedouins say, "We have believed." Say, "You have not [yet] believed"
"But say [instead], 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts."
Which is a huge difference
It isn't about what you said
Faith isn't by desire
Nor by appearance, as wearing virtuous attires...
Or which virtuous people wear
That doesn't mean you've become one
Faith is here
Faith isn't by desire
Nor by appearance, but what is fixed in the heart and proved by actions
"Whoever utters and does good, will be accepted"
"While who utters good and does else, will not be accepted"
Therefore, we need to fix this
We need to pay attention to this
We need to realize the importance of this
The first thing to do, is to seek its God
The God of my heart, we pray to Him
With hopefulness and humility, that He fixes it
And to save it from its illness
And to save it, because He's its owner
"There is no heart that is not between two of the Fingers of the Most Merciful."
Controls it as He wishes
That's why most of his Dua, peace be upon him,
Was "O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion"
We must memorize and repeat this Dua
And another of his Dua, peace be upon him,
Was "O Allah, I ask You for a humble heart"
"And I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not fear"
We must also memorize and repeat this Dua
Another of his Dua, peace be upon him, was...
"O Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness"
"From miserliness and from cowardice," and the punishment of the grave.
"O Allah! Grant me the sense of piety"
"And purify my soul as You are the Best to purify it. "
"You are the Best to purify it."
"You are its Guardian and its Protecting Friend"
"O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a heart which does not fear"
And from an eye that doesn't shed tears.
"And from desire which is not satisfied,"
"From the knowledge which is not beneficial"
"And from prayer which is not answered]."
So, this long Dua about fixing the heart shows how crucial the matter is
Because no one greater than Allah that can fix your heart
If He wanted to fix it overnight, He will
Removing all filth and muck from it
Instantly, He could make your heart sound
"But his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous"
I really love this verse
Notice how easy it happened
Just once God chooses him
Which isn't difficult for His majesty,
"But his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous"
Praise be to Allah,
Do you want to be righteous?
I also want so
What to do? we seek the Fixer of fixers
We seek the One who purifies the souls
Who fixes and purifies them
So, you must say "O'Allah, fix my heart"
"O' Allah, make my heart steadfast"
"O' Allah, I ask You a humble heart"
"O God, I seek refuge in Thee from a heart which is not submissive"
And to repeat these prayers in each kneel
And in each time, you think you could be answered
Which is a crucial matter
Because people think that they could just follow certain materialistic steps
But it isn't at all like this
It isn't at all like this
The Fixer of fixers is the God of all creation
- We seek Allah - Praise be to Him
You must seek refuge in Him
We have no choice but to beg Him
Like the man who left the house searching for his heart
And saw the child on his mother's doorstep
Calling for her "O' Mother, if you didn't have mercy on me..."
"If you didn't show compassion to me..."
Only to know that this is the only way
To sit at the doorstep of Allah
"Stand in humility and call for Allah"
"For The Most Generous answers to who calls Him"
"Stand in humility and call for Allah"
"For The Most Generous answers to who calls Him"
So, sit and pray that "O' Allah, I have a stiff heart..."
"Fix it for me."
"O' Allah, my heart is as hard as stone..."
"Grant me the delicacy and leniency of heart"
"O' Allah, I ask You to allow me to enjoy worshiping You"
"With a clean, clear and pure heart that yearns for You"
Those are great things
People should recite these prayers in the morning and the evening
And after the Dua, they must seek the material means
Which is firstly by repenting to Allah and quitting sins
Because sins are the greatest reason for the death of the heart
And the biggest reason for stiff hearts
"I saw how sins perish hearts"
"Such humiliation might cause their addiction"
"But quitting sins brings life to the hearts"
"But quitting sins brings life to the hearts"
"It's more beneficial for yourself to disobey it"
Do you want your heart to revive and purify?
And to clarify? abandon the sins
Such conflict between the heart, the senses and the behavior
Should people begin with the heart?
And prepare for the hard work?
And abandon sins
And attempting to quit some habits
Can you tell me a little about the relation between the heart and the senses
Let me tell you something, it's an external relation
Or let me say, internal-external
It's an internal-external relation
At first, what do I do, Sheikh Faisal?
At first, I abandon and quit the sins
But I find some difficulty in doing so
I find some hardship
When I attempt to avoid looking after I used to look
I attempt to hold my senses against what's Haram
I attempt to stop my tongue from saying Haram things
When I attempt so, I will find some difficulty
But how does this affect the heart?
It purifies the heart
When the heart is purified, it'll aid the senses in avoiding sins
Imam Ghazali says: "Senses are the gateways of the heart"
Amazing, that's true
The heart is a vessel
Filled through these gateways
When you give it Haram things through the eyes or ears...
Or the food, and tongue
The heart will be blackened and polluted
But when you avoid seeing, hearing and saying anything Haram
And when you force the senses to avoid what's Haram
Your heart will gradually purify
- So, people could purify their hearts? - Undoubtedly
No one should ever lose hope, then
Because some might think that they'd sinned too many times
Like the person who'd killed 99 persons
They think they'd sinned a lot
Allah knows what I've done but He protects me out of His mercy
But I've sinned
Too many times, that I feel like my heart is too heart that I've even lost hope
Some people might not even be able to feel such hope
People should never despair
We just mentioned the man who killed 100 persons
Amongst them a very prominent worshiper too
People sent him to him knowing he's a worshiper
Despite that...
Look, Sheikh Faisal, talking about the heart makes things easier not more complicated
Why so? because I don't require you to pray a thousand Raka's in order to repent
Nor that you must read the whole Quran many times
Only then can Allah accept you
Or that you must recite prayers 100,000 times
It isn't like that
Rather, with little work
And a lot of attention to the heart
Allah will accept you and bring you closer
With clean intentions...
Attention to the heart is the most important thing
And to abandon sins, and gradually return to worshiping
But never ever open such door upon yourself
Because who opens the doors of temptations falls into them
Don't sit where temptation is
Don't sit where you know you can't avoid looking
Or where you know, you can't avoid listening to what's Haram
Or where you can't stop uttering what's Haram
People will provoke you
And will drive you to sin, be aware
Shut the doors to sins
If your trail is with looking at what's Haram...
Shut the doors to sins, even if it hurts at first
If your phone calls you for what's Haram, leave it for the sake of Allah
For a while, until your heart is cured
Use a Nokia phone instead
Or an old phone
Don't allow the devil to deceive you
I swear, the heaven is more precious than we could even imagine
- And much more pleasing - We seek it
While we seek the perishing joys of this Dunya
Unable to leave the phone
Exaggerating its importance for himself
But isn't the heaven more precious to you than your phone?
If the heaven isn't in your heart as much as your phone...
Such a strange thing
"Do they not think that they will be resurrected"
But in order to achieve this level, it must be a gradual process
Some with higher levels of belief might see it as a simple thing
But even the people with ill or stiff hearts...
Can give the same answer, but their senses are used to a certain way
So, the process must be a gradual one
Because even the obvious questions
For a person immersed in sins
Might not be able to see better pleasure or joy?
Do you get what I mean, doctor?
So, how can they free themselves from this world?
And to seek refuge with Allah
But the devil always whispers certain thoughts to them
That Allah will never accept you
Or that the path to Allah is difficult
While it's much easier than one might think
Which is my point
That purify the heart is easier than you think, you just have to take the first steps
Abu-Huraira came to the Prophet -pbuh-...
And said "O' Prophet of Allah, our hearts soften when we are with you"
"And we remember the afterlife"
"Our hearts soften and we remember the afterlife"
"And when we leave, we like the world"
"And when we leave, we like the world"
So, he replied to Abu-Huraira:
The same sentence he said to Hanzala but with a small addition
He replied to Abu-Huraira:
"If you stay like this, Angels would greet you"
"And if you don't sin, Allah would have replaced you"
"With people that sin, so that they repent and Allah forgives them"
The problem isn't with not sinning
But repent immediately to Allah
And don't open the doors for sins upon yourself, but if you did sin...
Repent
"And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far,"
"[It will be said], "This is what you were promised - for every returner [to Allah] and keeper [of His covenant]"
"Who feared the Most Merciful unseen and came with a heart returning [in repentance]."
Who is this person that the heaven will be brought to him?
Who fears Allah in secrecy
And came with a heart returning in repentance
Whenever it sins, it repents
A heart that keeps returning in repentance
It always repents after the mistakes
It returns closer after every fall
It returns after straying
This is our nature, we all sin
We all are sinners that make mistakes
But the problem isn't in sinning
It is in delaying the repentance to Allah afterwards
And in not shutting the doors to sin before yourself
You know there's an open sinning door, shut it closed
And when you sin, you quickly repent
But don't leave the doors to sin wide open
And be quick to repent and ask forgiveness
And always keep the afterlife in your mind, which leads to a sound heart
As how Um Al-Darda' advised the man to visit the ill, follow funerals and visit the graves
Three amazing things, visiting the ill to know how this life is perished
And how it eventually leads to death
Following the funerals to realize your true last journey
After which you'll begin your true and eternal life
And visit the graves to know that this is your true home
This is your permanent house
When you realize this, your heart purifies
The heart becomes clearer
Which are important things...
No worldly pleasure is worth it
