The first step to change

0:06

is examining your thoughts, paying

0:08

attention to how you [music] speak and

0:09

how you act, and look at these emotions

0:12

that keep you connected to the past, and

0:14

finally decide

0:16

does this emotion belong in my future?

0:20

And it's so much easier to make the same

0:22

choice [music] every single day, and the

0:24

hardest part

0:25

about change is not making the same

0:28

choice [music] as you did the day

0:29

before.

0:32

And the moment you decide to make a

0:33

different choice, you're going to feel

0:36

uncomfortable, cuz you're stepping from

0:38

the known into the unknown.

0:41

So, some people rather cling to their

0:43

self-pity

0:45

than take a chance and possibility.

0:46

[music]

0:47

They'd rather tell the story of their

0:49

past

0:50

instead of telling the story of their

0:52

future. They'd rather believe in their

0:54

past [music] instead of believe in their

0:56

future.

0:57

We live in chronic disbelief.

1:00

What if the truth was that you're

1:02

greater than you think,

1:04

more powerful than you know, more

1:06

unlimited than you could ever dream?

1:07

[music] If that was the truth that you

1:09

are

1:10

the creator of your life. If you believe

1:12

that to be the truth, [music] then you

1:13

have to believe in yourself.

1:17

Unconsciously, we're always waiting for

1:19

[music] something out there in our life

1:21

to change so that we can change or feel

1:23

the relief of the lack of what we don't

1:25

[music] have. Probably a chronic

1:28

disbelief

1:29

that many of us have that [music] we're

1:32

not creators of our life.

1:34

Only when we get the parking space or

1:37

something [music] good happens to us, do

1:39

we believe that we're the creator of our

1:40

life. But imagine a world where

1:43

everybody actually took responsibility

1:44

[music]

1:45

in being the creator of their life and

1:47

no longer the victim of their life. I

1:48

think

1:49

we would see a dramatic [music] shift in

1:51

consciousness.

1:53

If we default and become the victim of

1:55

our life,

1:56

and we say that [music] some person or

1:58

some circumstance or some condition is

2:00

causing me to feel this way and to think

2:03

this way,

2:04

the only person that that's hurting,

2:07

those emotions, is really you. It really

2:10

is. And if the answer is, "Well, you

2:11

don't understand. I have a reason to

2:13

feel this way,"

2:14

>> [music]

2:14

>> then you're not there. You're not there.

2:15

You're not You're not beyond your past.

2:18

Cuz the stronger the emotion you have to

2:20

some person or some past event, [music]

2:21

the more you pay attention to it. Where

2:23

you place your attention is where you

2:24

place your energy. So, you're giving

2:26

your power away, your life force.

2:28

Living in fear and living in anger and

2:31

living in hostility and hatred and

2:33

judgment and resentment, that that has

2:36

nothing to do with your future. It has

2:38

everything to do with the past.

2:42

The soul can't go to the next [music]

2:43

adventure if it's holding on to the

2:45

past. The research shows that 50% of the

2:48

story [music] we tell in our past isn't

2:50

even the truth.

2:52

That means that people are reliving a

2:53

miserable life they never even had, and

2:56

they use the problems, they use the

2:58

conditions [music]

2:58

in their life to reaffirm their

3:00

addiction to that emotion. They need

3:02

their enemy to feel hatred. And And if

3:04

their enemy died, they'd they'd still

3:06

feel hatred, or they'd find another one.

3:08

>> [music]

3:08

>> Uh they need the bad relationship, they

3:12

need the bad job in order to feel, and

3:14

that's why it's hard to change. The

3:16

thought and the feeling is making

3:18

[music] the body become conditioned

3:21

subconsciously

3:23

>> [music]

3:23

>> into the past. And so now, that becomes

3:25

their state of being, and now they

3:27

behave

3:29

>> [music]

3:29

>> as if they're in their past, and they

3:32

think as if they're in their past.

3:34

And how you think, how [music] you act,

3:37

and how you feel is called your

3:38

personality.

3:40

And your personality creates your

3:41

personal reality. That's it. [music]

3:44

That's it. So, the present personality

3:46

who's sitting here today, called you,

3:48

has created the present [music] personal

3:50

reality, called your life. That's the

3:52

truth.

3:53

Well, everybody has a story, right? The

3:56

way we make memories [music] is from

3:59

emotions. So,

4:01

if you have an event in your life that's

4:03

highly traumatic, [music] just as an

4:05

example,

4:06

the moment you perceive that event in

4:09

your life through your senses, [music]

4:11

the more the brain freezes a frame

4:14

and takes a snapshot, and that's called

4:16

a long-term memory. Every time they

4:19

review the event in their mind,

4:22

>> [music]

4:22

>> they're producing the same chemistry in

4:23

their brain and body as if the event was

4:26

occurring.

4:27

So again, the body's reliving the trauma

4:29

50 [snorts] to 100 times in the day, and

4:31

now the the trauma's no longer in the

4:33

brain. The trauma's emotionally

4:34

conditioned in the body, right?

4:37

>> [music]

4:37

>> So,

4:38

if you say to the person, "Why are you

4:40

so bitter?

4:41

Uh why are you so sad? [music] Why are

4:43

you so unhappy?" they'll say,

4:45

"I am this way because of this event

4:47

that happened to me 10 years ago." Which

4:50

what they're really saying [music] is

4:51

after that event,

4:53

I changed and I have not been able to

4:55

change [music]

4:56

since this event. And so, the stories we

4:59

tell about our past are only stories we

5:03

tell when we feel those emotions. Um

5:05

[music] when does the story end? And I'm

5:07

not certain

5:09

that insight [music]

5:12

changes

5:14

behavior. You could have a realization,

5:16

or even from an an exogenous drug,

5:18

[music] you can have a realization or an

5:20

insight, but if you still can't function

5:22

in your life and you're still, you know,

5:24

you you haven't connected with your wife

5:26

or, you know, you're still dealing with

5:27

trauma, it it just hasn't served [music]

5:28

you at all. Uh so, the insight that your

5:31

your father was overbearing, or your

5:34

mother was a perfectionist, or you were

5:36

beaten as a kid, uh and that's why

5:38

you're this way, it doesn't change

5:39

[music] the behavior. The only way

5:40

you're going to free or from that past

5:43

experience [music] is for you to

5:46

literally overcome the emotion. So,

5:48

>> [music]

5:48

>> God, we've all had people do really

5:50

horrible things, and we've probably done

5:51

some horrible things to people as well.

5:53

Um

5:54

but I don't think you can [music] free

5:56

yourself or free them

5:58

unless you decide that um

6:01

you know,

6:01

>> [music]

6:01

>> love is going to be the thing that heals

6:03

it. And And forgiveness to me

6:05

is just overcoming the emotion. That's

6:08

it. Okay? Overcome the emotion, you no

6:10

longer [music] have your attention on

6:11

that person, you're calling energy back

6:13

to you, and you're building your own

6:14

field. And there's energy now to heal.

6:17

There's energy now to create, [music]

6:18

there's energy now for the mystical

6:20

experience. And the side effect of that

6:22

is forgiveness. It's not something that

6:24

you have to do.

6:25

>> [music]

6:25

>> It's just something that automatically

6:26

happens. There's a liberation of energy.

6:28

The The heart opens up, and the person

6:30

feels completely different. [music] Now,

6:32

that's when

6:34

they see their They see their past, and

6:36

some of them say, [music] "I I don't

6:38

want to change

6:39

one thing in my past. It's perfect. I

6:42

would have never gotten to this moment

6:44

unless I'd been [music] through all of

6:46

this." One moment, their heart opens,

6:48

and and all of a sudden, they see They

6:51

see it all. They see their betrayers.

6:52

[music]

6:53

They have nothing but forgiveness for

6:55

them. Their body heals, their mind

6:57

heals. They completely change their They

6:59

have another opportunity in life.

7:02

If [music] you change, your life

7:03

changes. And nothing changes in our life

7:06

until we change. And so, you can't do

7:08

that if you're feeling frustrated, or if

7:10

you're feeling anger, if you're feeling

7:12

resentment, you'll always hold a grudge.

7:15

Your thoughts [music] can make you sick.

7:17

That's why it's hard to change.

7:19

And then the question is, if your

7:20

thoughts can make you sick, can your

7:21

thoughts make you well? And we're

7:23

actually discovering [music] that that's

7:24

absolutely possible.

7:28

Every time you have a thought, you make

7:29

a chemical.

7:31

And if you have a happy thought or think

7:34

of something [music] happy, you turn on

7:36

a set of neurological networks in your

7:37

brain that fire in a sequence, [music] a

7:39

pattern, a combination that makes you

7:42

feel a certain way. As you secrete a

7:43

certain hormone, okay? The moment you

7:45

start to feel happy, the moment you

7:48

start to feel joyful, your your brain is

7:50

checking [music] in with your body

7:50

saying, "Chris, you're feeling pretty

7:52

joyful." And so then, the chemistry

7:54

influences you to think more wonderful

7:57

thoughts.

7:58

But you could

8:00

have thoughts that make you feel guilty,

8:02

[music]

8:03

and you can turn on a different set of

8:04

circuits in your brain to make you feel

8:06

differently. The moment you feel

8:08

miserable, the moment you feel

8:10

victimized, the moment you feel

8:11

suffering, the moment you feel pain, and

8:13

you can't think greater than how you

8:15

feel, the brain's checking with the body

8:17

and saying, "You're really miserable,"

8:18

and it generates more corresponding

8:20

thoughts equal to that feeling. [music]

8:22

So, it's thinking and feeling and

8:24

feeling and thinking. This loop of

8:26

thinking and feeling and [music] feeling

8:27

and thinking creates a state of being.

8:29

And again,

8:30

you can become addicted to your own

8:31

thoughts, and people become addicted to

8:34

the life they don't even like. So, in

8:36

order to change, if you were at wanted

8:39

to arrive at a new goal or new vision of

8:41

your future,

8:43

you'd have to change something about

8:44

[music] yourself in order to get there.

8:47

And you'd have to change the way you

8:48

think, the way you act, and the way you

8:50

feel. I think in so many ways that a

8:52

belief is a

8:54

unconscious [music] process. A belief is

8:56

a thought you keep thinking over and

8:58

over again

8:59

until it's hardwired in your brain.

9:02

And most

9:03

>> [music]

9:03

>> beliefs are based on past experiences.

9:06

And so, many people have a belief about

9:08

[music] something that has to change in

9:11

order for them to arrive at a new place

9:14

in their life. There's two times the

9:16

door to the subconscious mind opens up,

9:18

when you wake up in the morning and when

9:20

you go to bed at night. So, those are

9:21

really key times

9:23

um if you want to reprogram um your

9:25

subconscious mind. So,

9:27

it's important [music] for us to, in the

9:29

morning or the evening,

9:31

instead of reaching for our cell phone

9:33

and checking

9:34

>> [music]

9:34

>> our texts and our WhatsApp and our

9:36

Telegram and our social media and our

9:37

Instagram and our Twitter, [music] and

9:39

they get connected everything known in

9:41

their life. Before you start that, try

9:43

this out as an experiment before you

9:44

start your day. Instead of falling into

9:46

[music] that redundant habit, literally

9:49

go inward and forget about your outer

9:51

world. No longer think about anything

9:53

out there.

9:54

If you were sitting there in silence,

9:56

[music] aware of nothing but you.

9:59

And you said, "Okay, what is

10:01

the greatest [music] expression of

10:02

myself I can be today? Let me think

10:05

about how I do want to feel today. Let

10:06

me open my heart to life [music] again.

10:08

Let me feel kindness and care and love

10:11

and gratitude and appreciation. Let me

10:12

bring [music] up that feeling. Let me

10:13

feel it with my heart." And then ask

10:15

yourself, "Can I stay in this state my

10:17

entire day?"

10:23

There is no chance you're going to work

10:25

hard enough to achieve what you want

10:28

unless you're in a good place.

10:30

The reality of how life works,

10:33

everyone's ambition is completely

10:36

dictated [music]

10:37

by what's going on inside of them

10:39

emotionally.

10:41

The power is in your perspective. The

10:44

power, the difference

10:46

between those who make something happen

10:49

and those who do not

10:51

is wrapped in the truth and in the power

10:54

of their perspective.

10:57

When we broaden our perspective, we

10:58

often realize that there's a lot more to

11:01

the situation. [music]

11:02

Our problems shrink because we realize

11:05

there's a whole universe out here that

11:08

is much bigger than you.

11:10

>> [music]

11:11

>> So, it's like the ultimate way of

11:12

broadening your perspective and helping

11:15

you realize that, you know, what you're

11:16

going through, while still [music]

11:17

significant, there's more to it. There's

11:20

more to life than this.

11:23

I think when you're in that space

11:24

[music]

11:25

where the most difficult things to do is

11:27

to actually get perspective. I only

11:29

discovered I couldn't [music] see

11:30

clearly when I was with someone who

11:32

could see clearly.

11:34

And the first time I put on [music]

11:35

glasses, I realized leaves were distinct

11:38

individual pieces [music] on a tree.

11:41

That's the difference between surviving

11:43

and being alive. When you're alive, you

11:45

[music] see the details and the beauty

11:46

and the wonder.

11:48

You know, a person who's just existing,

11:50

every day they're they struggle with

11:51

depression and fear and anxiety. They

11:53

see everything that's missing. They

11:54

They're haunted by all their

11:56

disappointments [music] and and they

11:57

have not one more disappointment than

11:59

the person who's still alive. They have

12:01

that one more challenge [music] or

12:02

struggle or hardship. But the person

12:04

who's alive somehow sees beauty in

12:05

everything. Sees the wonder in it. And

12:07

that's when [music] I know I'm alive.

12:08

Yeah. When I'm doing me, I

12:10

You cannot bring enough difficulty in my

12:12

life to steal from [music] me the wonder

12:15

of taking this next breath.

12:16

The fact that one human being can say

12:18

one thing at the right second to another

12:21

human being that can fundamentally

12:23

change the process of their life because

12:25

they have now [music] decided to open up

12:27

a different perspective and see the

12:28

world differently is the most

12:30

intoxicating, most powerful reason that

12:32

human beings are the best in the world.

12:34

[music] And if you think the people that

12:36

are using fear and negativity to get

12:39

your attention and you're saying they're

12:41

[music] right, they're just selling you

12:42

darkness and you're buying it.

12:45

I love this gorgeous story. He talks

12:46

about how when him and his wife first

12:47

got together before they were married, I

12:48

think they were 23, 24, he said to his

12:51

wife, "Ah, that really was living,

12:52

wasn't it? That really was the golden

12:54

years. Yeah, I was just so amazing. You

12:56

know, we used to lie in on a Sunday and

12:58

we could go for lunch and do all the

12:59

rest of it." His wife [music] said,

13:01

"You were miserable. Mhm. You hated it.

13:04

You hated all of those things. In

13:06

hindsight,

13:07

you're able to see that the fears that

13:09

captured you at the time were not worth

13:11

having.

13:12

But at the time, you have no certainty

13:14

that those aren't salient. So,

13:17

what you see in retrospect is how you

13:19

should have felt had you known what was

13:21

going to occur."

13:23

If a person goes through something

13:25

that's traumatic, the average person's

13:27

perspective [music] is going to go to a

13:28

space and place, what did you lose?

13:31

People very rarely were asked the

13:33

question, "Man, what did you learn from

13:35

it? What did you gain?" What did you

13:37

gain?

13:38

Right? How did it make you a better

13:39

person? I know it didn't feel good.

13:41

That's obvious. I know it hurt, right? I

13:43

know you didn't like it. It wasn't

13:45

convenient. But like, what did you gain

13:47

from it? I [music] just want to know,

13:49

right? From the loss, from the pain. If

13:51

I look back in my life, I'm 39 now, and

13:53

I think about all the challenging

13:55

moments, I wouldn't change any of them.

13:57

There's some things that

13:59

seem so [music] painful that I didn't

14:00

want to experience,

14:02

but the lesson that I learned from them,

14:04

the person I became by overcoming them,

14:07

is so much more powerful than not having

14:10

them. It's not until we [music] can get

14:12

through it and reflect on it and we have

14:14

hindsight, "Oh, this taught me this

14:16

lesson." [music] Or "Here's why this

14:17

needed to happen." Or The first step to

14:19

change is examining your thoughts,

14:22

[music] paying attention to how you

14:24

speak and how you act. And look at these

14:26

emotions that keep you connected to the

14:28

past and finally decide,

14:31

"Does [music] this emotion belong in my

14:32

future?"

14:33

Um that is what drives us to our dreams.

14:35

And you just got to be able

14:38

to sustain that state of being [music]

14:39

independent of anyone or anything in

14:41

your life. And if you can,

14:44

get ready because [music] that's when

14:45

your life changes. You're You're

14:46

literally thinking differently.

14:49

You're acting [music] differently and

14:50

you're feeling differently. That's a new

14:51

personality and that means a new

14:53

personal reality.

14:55

I tell people all the time, man, the

14:56

easiest thing in the world to do is to

14:57

be negative. [music]

14:58

So easy. Easiest thing in the world to

15:00

do is complain.

15:01

Easiest thing in the world to do is to

15:03

quit. That's easy.

15:06

I pour my pain out onto the written page

15:09

and then I

15:10

I write about the good things and that

15:12

gives [music] me that keyword, which is

15:13

perspective.

15:14

>> Wow.

15:15

You know, there's that Persian proverb,

15:17

"I cursed the fact I had no shoes

15:19

>> [music]

15:19

>> until I saw the man who had no feet."

15:22

And then if you start to think

15:23

differently [music] cuz you learn new

15:25

information, you begin to make different

15:26

choices. And if you make different

15:28

choices, you can begin to do different

15:30

things and behave [music] in different

15:31

ways and you can create new experiences.

15:34

We think differently. Our perspective is

15:36

different. And because our perspective

15:38

is different, our outcomes are

15:39

different. [music] Our rewards are

15:41

different. So, the greatest gift you can

15:43

give yourself is, I believe, to make

15:45

that decision and [music] say life is

15:46

too short to suffer. It doesn't matter

15:48

what happens,

15:50

um you're going to find something

15:51

[music] to enjoy and appreciate. Please

15:54

keep life in perspective cuz things

15:56

could be a whole lot worse.

15:57

>> [music]

15:58

>> So, instead of complaining, do yourself

15:59

a favor. Man, start counting your

16:01

blessings. That's right. The best is yet

16:03

to come. So, please remember, life

16:06

[music] is just perspective, man.

16:08

If you change the way you look at

16:10

things,

16:11

then the things that [music] you see

16:13

will change.

16:17

As you think, so you become.

16:22

The mind is like a factory, [music] a

16:23

mental factory.

16:26

And whatever you think about all day

16:27

long pours ingredients [music] into this

16:29

mental factory.

16:30

Can you imagine dumping a bale of trash

16:32

into this mental factory every day and

16:34

coming out with a rich, dynamic,

16:36

positive life? [music] It can be done.

16:40

And it starts with thought.

16:42

Everything [music] starts with thought.

16:44

So, you must be wise

16:47

and careful

16:50

what you think [music] about because

16:51

that starts everything.

16:53

The easiest thing I've done was to get

16:56

out from under the labels and to live

16:59

the life that I live.

17:01

The most difficult [music] thing I've

17:02

ever done

17:04

was to believe that I can do it.

17:07

I think every thought that you have

17:09

makes a chemical.

17:10

And you can have thoughts [music] that

17:12

make you feel good and thoughts that

17:13

make you feel bad.

17:15

If 90%

17:17

of the thoughts that we [music] think

17:19

are the same thoughts as the day before,

17:22

the same thoughts lead to the same

17:23

choices.

17:25

What I do think that if you think

17:26

differently and you learn new

17:27

information or you have [music] new

17:28

thoughts,

17:29

if you can make new choices and

17:32

demonstrate new behaviors and create new

17:34

experiences [music]

17:35

and arrive at new goals and feel new

17:36

emotions, I would say that's evolution.

17:39

And I think that people [music] really

17:41

really secretly believe in themselves on

17:43

some level and and I think

17:46

being defined by a vision of a future or

17:48

really always always dreaming

17:50

>> [music]

17:50

>> of of another great experience,

17:53

I think is a great reason to wake up in

17:54

the morning.

17:58

The hardest part of making millions of

18:01

dollars

18:02

and being successful in business is

18:04

becoming the person who's able to do the

18:06

thing.

18:07

That's the hardest part. Hardest part is

18:09

not What Doing things that'll make you a

18:11

million dollars, that's not the hardest

18:12

part.

18:14

The hardest part is you becoming the

18:15

person

18:17

who has enough intestinal fortitude and

18:19

grit

18:20

to go down into the laboratory, the

18:24

cave, the drawing board, whatever you

18:27

want to call it, and obsess over this

18:28

problem long enough to find an elegant,

18:31

effortless, effective solution.

18:35

That's the part [music] because most

18:36

people don't have enough intestinal

18:38

fortitude, they don't have enough

18:39

stick-to-itiveness, they don't have

18:40

enough grit

18:42

to last through the learning curve to

18:44

become the person who can do the thing

18:46

that makes them deserve to have the

18:48

stuff.

18:50

Yeah, even if you take like even if you

18:52

take

18:53

a tree growing in a garden. You plant

18:56

the seed in the ground.

18:57

In order for the seed to become a tree,

19:00

the first thing it must do

19:03

is exactly the same as the first thing

19:04

we must do when we're getting ready to

19:06

go through our transformation. What is

19:07

that? It must be willing to cease to be

19:09

a seed. Unless I'm willing to cease

19:11

being what I've always been, I can never

19:13

become whatever I can't have the

19:15

potential to become.

19:18

If I were to give people one single tool

19:21

that would help them improve their

19:22

lives, I would invite them to embrace

19:26

the awareness

19:27

>> [music]

19:28

>> and to use as a tool

19:30

their consciousness that your life is

19:33

not about you, it's about everyone else

19:36

whose life you touch and the way in

19:38

[music] which you touch it. Everything

19:40

that you hope to manifest in your life

19:42

and searching for all of the good things

19:45

in life come to you automatically

19:47

[music]

19:48

with almost without trying.

19:50

That's all you'll need to transform

19:52

[music] your experience of who you are

19:55

and to touch everyone else in life in a

19:57

way that would allow them to begin to

19:59

experience who they are.

20:01

I came to realize that it's not about

20:04

me.

20:05

The experience is yours,

20:06

but the experience that people take from

20:08

the content [music]

20:09

you will never own.

20:11

I will never know how much what I do

20:14

affects people or doesn't.

20:17

I'm not responsible [music] for what

20:19

happens with what is created once it's

20:21

out in the world.

20:22

The reason I was there was not to have a

20:24

personal experience. The [music] reason

20:26

I was there was to make a film that

20:27

could potentially shed light on an issue

20:30

or teach something to people because I

20:32

was so busy worrying about being [music]

20:34

Mr. program maker and making this film

20:37

that was perfect in my mind's eye.

20:39

Whereas in reality

20:41

the conversation that was being had had

20:43

never been had before.

20:44

And as a result, [music] it actively

20:46

changed lives of people watching it.

20:48

Literally changed the lives [music] of

20:50

people that messaged me. Wasn't about

20:52

me.

20:53

And being comfortable with that is quite

20:55

difficult, but also quite freeing in a

20:57

lot of ways.

21:00

People come to the work for all kinds of

21:01

reasons, and I don't really care.

21:03

But by the time they start doing the

21:05

work

21:06

all they really want to do is give.

21:08

Because when you feel so amazing and

21:10

feel so great about yourself that you no

21:12

longer want anything

21:14

the first thing you want to do is give.

21:16

I mean, [music] and it's just a

21:17

practice. And as you do that and you

21:19

start seeing all the fun things

21:21

happening, it's not like ah

21:24

I got to go create my life today. You're

21:26

like you're like I got to go cuz I don't

21:28

want the magic to stop. So I just

21:30

[music] do it because

21:32

I love the crazy magical wonderful

21:34

things that happen that that I would

21:35

just

21:37

never anticipate [music] in my life. And

21:40

so people are catching on to it and they

21:42

start coming for one reason, you know,

21:44

they're they want money or they want a

21:45

health or but it's not about your money.

21:48

It's not about your health. It's not

21:49

about your new relationship. It's not

21:50

even about the mystical moment. It's

21:52

about who you become

21:53

in the process [music] because

21:55

overcoming all those limitations to

21:57

become somebody else, nobody can take

21:59

that away from you.

22:01

Your matters are the peace [music] of

22:02

the world.

22:04

You're beyond yourself.

22:06

You're greater [music] than yourself.
