I'm also curious about this. I've met startups in the US. I'm familiar with the process. In the mainland, is the process of interviewing different from the US in the technology industry? The US interview is very strict. They will tell you that I have three rounds of coding, one round of system design, and one round of behavior. And they will tell you very clearly what the first round is, what the second round is, and what the third round is.

So, there won't be a standard algorithm in the mainland, and a process like system design and BQ?

I was an interviewer at Meta. We had a training. They would tell you what signal you want to get for the interview. I didn't work as an interviewer in China. But I feel like every interviewer has his own idea. It's more freestyle. You can do whatever you want to do.

I've met Meta and Google in the US. I think Meta is standardized and well-trained. Everything is on the recall and system design. You can find a flow of data to finish the task. But Google, I've met some interviewers who are a bit creative. They want to come up with some more distinctive topics. They don't like to look for topics on recall.

When we were in the US for the interview, we finished the five rounds in a day. We went to see your feedback in the five rounds. And then we gave you an answer.

In the mainland, he is a round of the interviewer. He thinks he can make another appointment for you. Sometimes it's four rounds, sometimes it's five rounds. I think the difficulty is that every interviewer must be convinced that you are an excellent candidate. In the United States, he may be all together. When you look at it together, you may not perform so well in one round, but the other rounds are not bad. Then they will say that this person is not bad in the comprehensive view. But if you are in the mainland, you have one round. You don't have a chance later.

Oh, okay, okay, I get it. But I actually prefer the way it is in mainland China. I don't really like wasting time for an interview. I don't want to waste my company's time for an interview. Especially if you still have work to do here, sometimes there will be breakdowns for two days. This standard is a bit high. In a situation where the bar is so high, if you have a bad performance in a round, it's easy to fail. So actually, many times, he will follow the standard of failing once. It's my own feeling.

I think it's more efficient to do this process in the mainland. Actually, it's okay if it doesn't pass. Just hang up and change to another company. It depends on whether you can face it in the last round. If you face it in the last round, your time line will be very long. Maybe this interview is over, it will take more than a week. When facing seniors, his interviewer is generally more senior. It will be more difficult to meet him. Sometimes it may take more than a month for a company to face. The time is longer. I didn't hang up one at that time. I went to another one. I did it at the same time. Face this, face that the next day. Go down together.

I understand. What about the salary structure? In the US, it's usually a base salary. There's a target bonus, maybe 10-15% per year. There's also RSU. Is it the same in the mainland? Yes, I heard it's related to the level of education. I'm a senior in the country. I have a base salary and stocks. I have a full salary. After getting the offer, I also get three bonuses. I don't know if your life goal is to retire early or to achieve financial freedom as soon as possible. If you think about it in this direction, which one do you feel more comfortable in? I

I think if you want to achieve financial freedom as soon as possible, I think it will be faster in the United States. Even if you don't have a high salary for your first job, you can grow very high through the jump. I just came back from the United States. I will feel a little gap. Mainly the gap in salary. Then I will feel a little unhappy. But later I think this matter can't be measured by salary. Because I will soon have a baby after I return to China. And now the baby is one year old.

In China, you will have a relationship with your colleagues like friends. Because they all use Chinese and mother tongue to chat, they can integrate more. It's happier to have a relationship with others. It's closer to family and colleagues. Another one is that it's much more busy in China than in the United States. It's quite fulfilling. It depends on what you do. Is it what you like? If this project is interesting and you are very busy when you do it, but you have been taking on new challenges and using various methods to solve some problems, this process will be very happy.
