Hello everyone, I'm Terry. Today I'm going to update you guys on my situation. I resigned. And this time I'm completely naked. I worked at that company for about a year and a little bit. And then about two months ago, I told them that I was going to resign. The purpose of this video today is to share with you my journey of resignation. And why I want to resign. What is my future plan?

Before the video started, some of you may not know my job or background. So let's review why I joined this company.

Before I joined this company, I was working at a company called Blend. I was a software engineer there. I worked at Blend for about two years. Around two years, the North American tech industry was at its peak. Because of various reasons, plus the issue of quality, I think it was mainly because of the issue of quality, Blend was the one to get me fired.

I also made a video about it. After I was laid off by Blank, I took it as a break. I had a startup company called Nuke. They were hiring a creative team. Nuke had just finished the final product. I talked to their creative team. I felt a new fever. It was a passion for my business. The company was small. There were only five people in engineering.

The advantage of a startup team is that you can do a lot of things and the impact of a lot of projects is great. It's actually quite fun, just like a battle every day. But the downside is that it's really hard and really tiring. There is basically no so-called living-work boundary. And the age of the entire team should be around 23 or 22 years old.

All of them are fresh blood. Everyone is doing PR on weekends and evenings. I remember one time during Thanksgiving in the US, I sat in front of the computer desk at 6am and talked to European clients to help them deal with some problems.

And this kind of thing is also very common. Because the company is small, there is no so-called support. Basically, everything has to be done by the engineer himself. Working in a startup is really just for those people who have a strong sense of responsibility. You have to have that entrepreneurial spirit to be able to persist. If you just want to work as a manager, make some money, get a paycheck, it's actually the easiest and easiest to work in a big company.

I worked at NUX for a year, and I feel like I worked at other companies for 2 or 3 years. Of course, it may be because I was too busy before. Anyway, I really felt like I was out of work for a whole year. There are things that I can never finish, and the deadline is always due in two days. To be honest, if I only have this full-time job, it should be very simple for me. I think I have no problem for 5 years or 10 years.

I'm a crazy person. I work for more than 12 hours a day. I work for 7 days a week. I don't have much time to rest. I feel very tired. I've been working at Nuke for almost a year. I can't go on like this. Even though I do everything I really like. But if I want to keep my performance and quality of work, I will burn out soon.

So now, I can't do so many things at once. Of course, I can do so many things at once, but the quality will be worse. I think working in a startup, a new company, is either all-in or not participating. I don't want to drag the whole team down because of myself. So I have to make a choice. There are roughly two choices.

First, I can take my time from my project. I can finish my consulting work. I can also spend less time on YouTube. I can change it to one month update. The second option is to stop my full-time work. I can leave all my time to myself. Do the project I want to do.

I think it's very easy for me to choose one of these two options. At least for me, a full-time software engineer can find the job I want at any time. I can even go to a big factory to work in a nursing home. Then every performance of the season is just a few edges.

So for me, I don't need to think too much about it Just take full-time jobs away Although it's a bit of a pity to leave NUX Because I had a lot of shares at that time And I think NUX is really a company with potential NUX is really strong From engineering to sales I think in the department of stock market It should be able to be called an A+ new creative team Of course I should be the most useless But still that old saying For me, a job is just a job

I can't leave out my consulting and other projects I'm doing Because I spent years of my life on them, starting from scratch Let's not talk about which option makes more money Because I think money can't measure the importance of these choices What's important is that I don't have to stand up at 9am every day I don't need my colleagues to ping me, I have to reply to them online anytime

I don't have to go to the emergency room every week to meet my colleagues I will have all the time I want from 9am to 5pm every day I don't belong to anyone else It's my own time I can do anything I want with this time No longer limited to one company This is why I chose to quit For me, making more money or making less money is not that important anymore What's important is that I have the right to choose now This is the first time in my life that I feel that I can choose my own time more than money

Of course, I have the courage to resign, and I'm honest. The most important thing is to have an economic independence. What is economic independence? For me, I think the most important thing is that I don't need to rely on W-2. I don't need a full-time job. Pay me monthly salary. I can only pay the fixed salary. I have three more rents to pay. I still have to eat. There are a lot of living expenses. Although I don't have much other living expenses. Because I don't have a child. But to be honest, I was able to do this because I had a lot of courage.

The thing about looting is that it's a very easy choice to quit my full-time job. But to actually go ahead and do it, it's a big step for me. Why do I say it's a big step? Because it's actually my first time looting in my life.

In the past 10 years, from the time I started my graduation work to now, I have never done this before. And I can't even imagine that I would not have done such a risky thing in the past. Although I have changed many companies, I have been in a hurry. But every time, I really have no way out. I found the next job first, and after signing the offer, I dared to resign from the previous company. Because for me in the past, if I didn't find the next job first and quit, it might be a problem for my job.

It may also affect my immigration timeline, and even the insecurity that has been underlying my heart all this time. Because I'm not a graduate of a public service, why should I have a gap? I have to work harder than other public service graduates to be able to survive in this industry. When I used to change jobs, I would start a new job on Friday after I finished the last company on Friday.

Plus, if I can't find a job after I lose my job, how can I pay the mortgage? What if I regret it after I lose my job? These are the insecurities that have been in my heart for the past 10 years. I want to break them all. So this time, I really got a lot of courage to do this. Despite this full-time job, I didn't get a high salary.

I know that if I didn't have this job, I would have found it earlier. But I don't know if you understand the sense of security. It's like you've been wearing a 10-year insurance, and this time you finally get it. This sense of security has accompanied my career in the past 10 years. But I know this is the right and rational decision. It's also what I have to do. I can complete another life goal in the next 10 years. It is to achieve work freedom and time freedom.

Some of you might ask if I quit, will I not get the company's shares? Because some of you asked me this question in the video. So I'll clarify it by the way. Usually, the stock market in the US, whether it's a stock market or an RSU, is a four-year stock. And the four-year stock is called a "cliff". What does "cliff" mean?

You can get the RSU or the期权 you deserve after a full year. After a year, it becomes the best of every month. It means you can get the share of your worth every month. So as long as you do it for a full year, you won't lose much. The more you lose, for example, you only do it for 10 months or 11 months, you will resign.

Because in this case, the first 10 months or 11 months are basically a waste of time. Of course, the equity structure of each company is different. But most of the startups with more than 80% or 90% of the company are under this standard. There are also a lot of listed companies. Oh, another point I want to talk about is that although I work very hard at NUX, I am happy. And the relationship between me and the team and the founders is still very good. I left the company on my own because of personal reasons.

I think if I can't give my 100% in a startup job, I'd rather not work. I don't want to deliver half-assed work here. That kind of job where you only get paid and complete the most basic work standard every day. The goal is not to be fired. In some big companies, it may be possible.

But it's really not possible in startups. I would also suggest that if you don't have the mindset to O-In, it's best not to join a startup easily. Of course, I'm talking about startups that are really doing things seriously. In fact, there are also many startups that are actually playing with the money of investors. You may not have to worry too much. As for my future plans, of course, I plan to take a good rest and spend more time with my family and important people.

After that, I have several options. For me, engineering is my favorite thing to do. So I will continue to do my consulting work. Actually, I am now doing consulting in a lead team. There is actually no big difference between the work content of a normal job. The most important thing is that I can arrange time freely. And no one cares about me.

I also have the possibility to join other companies to do part-time work. I think the advantage of doing part-time work is that I can be free and I can continue to be my engineer. I also have stable income and I don't need to commit full-time. Or I can do my consulting business bigger and invite some people to help me do it together and find more projects. I can also leave more time to myself to do other projects I want to do.

Every engineer has an app in his heart that he wants to do, but he never has time to do it. As for YouTube, self-media and film, I will not treat YouTube as a full-time job. I think this is a very dangerous dependence and a single point of failure. Because YouTube platform has a lot of power. When it sees I'm not happy, it can limit my flow at any time. It can also stop and stop my channel at any time.

And as a creator, you have no ability to counterattack. Like this previous video, I don't know why it's yellow and limits my traffic. The content is the most real. I also spent a lot of time to make it. And to be honest, opening a media company is not my interest and specialty.
