Surprising My Wife With 40,000 Bees!

So, the origin of this story is actually

months ago when we opened Kayla's

eggstand because, well, she's a stay at

home mom and I figured, let's get some

extra money rolling in here. Put Kayla

to work, right? And that worked pretty

[music] well. We've been making money

from the egg stand. But recently, our

eggs have slowed down and we haven't

been making much money at all.

>> I haven't asked anything of you guys.

Just a few more eggs a day and we're

good.

>> So, over the last year, my wife and I

have been collecting animals like Thanos

is collecting those stones. Now, we've

got goats, we've got chickens, we've got

ducks, we've got cows, we we've got

everything, and my wife has been

approving all of it. There's one thing

that we don't have yet, and um there's

40,000 of them. So, I came up with an

idea. Why don't we diversify? And when I

say diversify, I'm talking honey. Honey

is a premium item. That stuff is selling

for like $40. That's insane. All these

organic white girls, like the Starbucks

girls, they're going in and they're

paying a premium for this honey. So, I

figured why not? Why not get into the

market, take it over organic honey. So,

that's today's mission. We're adding to

our farm stand to make more money. I

know absolutely nothing about honey

bees. Like, nothing. And I'm guessing

it's not just as simple as leaving them

in your backyard and they make honey.

I'm going to have to figure out what the

heck I'm doing. And I don't even know if

I'm allergic to bees. [screaming]

>> Only hurts for a mirror. Bees are like

women. I'm really interested to hear

>> So, in the colony, there's probably 85

to 90% females.

>> Yeah.

>> So, they can be gentle, they can be

nice, just like your woman.

>> But you'll you'll learn that the smoker

is your favorite tool. You know why?

>> Calm them down.

>> You got to calm them down. Sometimes you

got to blow them a little smoke, man.

>> Hey, you can't you can't blow smoke on a

woman. You just got to tell her to calm

down. And we know how that goes.

>> We can try the smoker out.

>> It works.

>> It does not work. It does not work.

>> Okay, we're surprising Kayla with how

many bees, you say?

>> Probably 40,000 bees.

>> 40,000 bees. We don't know anything

about bees, so I uh we got these guys

here, the experts, and they're going to

help us set up these bees, figure out

what we need to do.

>> They leave welts or is it more like just

>> It depends. Sometimes you get welts,

sometimes just a beast sting. You got to

make sure you get the stinger out right

away though.

>> Cuz they keep pumping.

>> Oh yeah.

>> Jerry gets like seven stings every

single time and I get like none.

>> Is there any remedy for it? Like rubbing

honey on it or what?

>> So let's not tell that part about

getting stung every time. [laughter]

>> Now that we found the perfect spot for

our bees, it's time to go set them up

and let them out. Right now, they're

literally just trapped. They're they're

boxed in. Everything's covered. They

cannot get out of these boxes. And might

I add, they are pissed off because

they've been in a car for the last hour.

captive right now by the bees. I'm going

to attempt to get in the side by side.

>> Yep. I'm going to take off, take the

suits back up here, get changed, then we

can go do what we need to do. Probably

going to get stung a lot.

>> I'm staying back.

>> No, you you got to film it, though.

>> I know. I'm going to stay back as far as

this thing can zoom.

>> No, you got to film it. You got to be

with me.

>> They got a little riled up from the

ride.

>> I just had one follow me all the way

down that trail like from there to

there.

>> So, he said bears are their natural

predator. So, anytime they see black

like hair or fur, [music] they go right

for it.

>> That's why they went right for my face.

>> Yeah.

>> I'm thinking dead sprint to the side by

Go, go, go, go, go, go, go. There's a

bunch.

>> Did you get stung?

>> No, I jumped in the car. [laughter]

>> Yeah. She's like, I don't even know if

the baby's allergic to bees. And then

the first thing she does when she gets

swarmmed, jumps in the car with the

[laughter] baby.

>> Nothing was following me.

>> I saw Jerry just doing this and I'm

like, yep, I'm gone. [laughter] I was

gone. You should have put the bee suit

on. I'm going to still be standing out

there.

>> I know you just Yeah. [laughter]

tending to her bees.

>> I kind of want to put it on and go back

out and check it out.

>> Okay, now we got to go back to the bees

because we're not finished here. Even

though we just got attacked, we're

coming back with some safety this time.

And we need to learn how to take care of

these bees and to get the honey.

Otherwise, this is pointless and we're

just going to get stung for no reason.

And I'm definitely making this Kayla's

job. This is going to be her new chore

cuz I don't really even like bees if I'm

being completely honest with you. Though

Kayla's going to sacrifice herself for

the farm stand.

>> I thought that we

>> Yeah. Well, to be fair, no. I never even

thought about it. I just I didn't It

didn't cross my mind. But come on.

>> I did order two of them.

>> I just forgot Travis was going to be

>> I'm so confused. We literally had this

at bees like women.

little smoke every now and then.

>> Calm you down a little bit.

>> Like that. That's basically like us

saying calm down. That's what that is.

>> Yeah.

>> Just dead dead grass

>> cuz you want like a cold smoke. You

don't want a hot smoke because you can

burn them.

>> There's no extra skeleton that

>> way there's not a fire inside of it.

>> You just want it to smolder and smoke.

>> How much does the flavor like if they're

on oranges? You actually taste that

orange

>> without having to add anything or do

anything. You can That is incredible. I

know nothing about bees, so I'm I'm

gonna ask all the questions, but that's

what we're here for.

>> That's super cool.

>> Then are these a specific breed of bees

or

>> These are Italians.

>> Italians known to be a little bit spicy

though, right?

>> Not [snorts] if you blow them some

smoke. [laughter]

>> Also never knew that you don't just

>> what the smoke does.

>> Here, I can take I feel bad. I can take

this. Well, they have calmed down a lot

since we were last over here.

>> It was right there at the base.

>> So, you don't want to over smoke them.

smoke in there.

>> You got stung.

>> Did you get stung?

>> No, he he went for my shorts, but I

would have been screwed if he hit my

legs.

>> Respect, Trev. Respect. Cuz I was just

too cheap to spend the other 30 bucks.

No. No. I know that sounds bad. I I

actually just forgot. I just forgot the

>> So, another thing

>> and they won't mix together.

>> So, you always want to sterilize your

hive tool before you go in. That way,

you don't crosscontaminate from one hive

if they have a disease or you don't know

about.

>> It's It's nice to just go ahead and

smoke it a little bit.

>> So, this is a honey superer that's on

top.

So you're going to see there's already

going to be honey like drawn out all

this

>> and they're capping it already. See how

>> so that's honey.

>> So when it's capped like this that means

that it's ready honey. So you got to

wait till they cap over

>> entire frame before you're ready to pull

it.

>> Oh my gosh. I'm getting eaten alive by

>> So, when they find nectar, they'll do

this little dance to let everybody else

know where they found the nectar.

>> Isn't that crazy?

>> And then they bring everybody else

there. They give them like a GPS

location of where it's at. This is what

the queen cannot fit through,

>> but they can.

>> So, the queen in this colony is marked.

We have her marked with a blue mark.

We'll be able to find her really

quickly. Okay. So, this right here is a

male bee, and he has no stinger.

They cannot sting you. They're a little

fluffy.

>> Oh,

>> so the males are the nice ones.

>> No, there's there's different types,

right?

>> So, that's a male bee.

>> Wow. This the male, the worker drone,

and the queen.

>> A drone is what it's called.

>> So, their sole purpose is to eat and

breed the queens.

>> Wow, what a great job.

>> Yeah, [laughter] but after they breed

the queen, they fall out the sky and

die.

>> Oh, that kind of sucks. You know,

there's

>> girls kick them out and they die anyway.

So,

>> yeah. In the winter time, the girls will

kick them out, throw them out of the

hive, and they starve to death.

>> The brood chamber is usually in the

center.

>> Oh my goodness.

>> There she is. See the blue dot?

>> That's sweet. That's the queen.

>> You can see how much bigger she is.

>> That is incredible.

>> Then you see all her babies.

>> Where are those all her babies?

>> Yeah. Well, everyone's her baby, but all

these here, them are all That's all her

brood.

>> Wow.

>> They're pretty self-sufficient in the

sense they'll just keep

>> Yeah. And they're very clean. Like they

will not go to the bathroom in the hive.

>> 2,000 eggs a day.

>> Wo.

>> A day.

>> Yes.

>> If she has space.

>> Wo.

>> 2,000 eggs.

>> So, you can see the different stages.

You can see the larae inside there. So,

they're getting ready to cap that over.

>> And what's the cap?

>> So, it's just a wax capping.

>> Okay. That closes it off. It's done.

>> Yep. And then they'll emerge from that.

They'll chew their way out.

>> Careful.

>> Oh.

>> Oh my.

>> So, those are So, the bottom one is

where all the eggs are being those are

all babies. The top is where the honey's

at.

>> Yes.

>> Wow.

>> So, these are all hatching

>> and your queen stays below. So, you'll

never see

>> what is that? That's like the nursery

>> pretty much. That's crazy.

>> One thing beekeeping will teach you is

patience.

>> Yeah.

>> Oh, I bet.

>> You got to be nice and slow.

>> They're all over you.

>> No fast movements.

>> These were the not so nice bees. They

needed to calm down. I wonder if they've

calmed down enough cuz we've literally

given them no time. We gave them what, 5

minutes.

>> We're about to find out.

>> Here's what doesn't make sense to me.

How do you get honey from out of there

>> to turn into next time?

>> So, the way that you extract honey,

>> you have to uncap the capped honey and

then you put it in an extractor where it

spins it.

>> Spins it and throws it out.

>> And then all you do is strain it

just to get the excess

>> wax out of there on the other side.

>> So crazy. So, you want to pick up one

more chore at the farm or

>> You want to hold it?

>> Do not drop that thing, [snorts]

>> dude.

>> Sorry, I forgot you're not Look at all

that white stuff up there, though.

That's crazy. And now that we are

officially beekeepers, not really. Um, I

still don't really know what I'm doing,

but I have a better idea. But now that

we're beekeepers, well, I should say now

that Kayla's a beekeeper, because

remember, this is her business. She's

the one selling the honey, not me. And

if there's any animals or insects that

we haven't gotten yet that you guys want

to see us get, please drop them down

end up loving the bees and we don't want

bees, we can just give them away. And by

give them away, I mean we can put them

in the back of my sister's boyfriend's

truck and give him a little surprise.
