9 Aturan Uang yang Harusnya Gua Tahu Lebih Awal
In this video, I want to share 9
money rules that I think I should have known
earlier. So I've noted some of them down
in this video and I'm going to
share them with you guys while doodling
on the iPad over here. You use this money rule
when you have an
income. So before you
spend, before you do
anything, you must have
strict rules regarding your finances. Because
with the right rules you will
avoid the wrong holes
which will ultimately lead to making
wrong decisions. The
effects of which you will feel in the next 5 to 10 years
. There are rules
about investing, there are rules about saving
, and there are rules about spending. So
let's go straight to the first rule,
namely the rule of 10.
So what is the rule of 10? yes.
If I wanted to buy an
iPhone now and this is real, I
personally applied it in 202122 back then
there was an iPhone called XR,
if I'm not mistaken, I bought
it for around Rp. 10 million and what
I applied to myself before I
could buy this Rp million cellphone, I had to have a
minimum net or wealth that was 10 times
more than the iPhone or than the
item I wanted to buy [snort]
and this rule of thumb applies until you
have 10 billion dollars, aka million
dollars.
10 billion.
So, for example, you want to buy an XR
, the price of this iPhone XR was back then, I
still have it now, the
price is IDR 10 million. This means that what
I should have in my rules
is IDR 10 million multiplied by a row of 10, so
I have to have IDR 100 million, then from
this IDR 00 million I can
spend or head on quotation marks to
something that we say is IDR million
. So, another example, let's say I
want to buy a car like that. This is my drawing of a
car as best I can.
Well, this is how it is. This car, let's say the
price is IDR 200 million. So
with a RLE of 10,
how many do you have to have? No, oh, I have
R00 million, so I'll just pay it in installments. I pay in installments, yes, I pay in installments of
Rp. 20 million every month. Yes,
this is the rule of 10, this is 1/10 of it.
Well, that's not how it works. But if
you have R00 million, you want to buy a
R00 million car, as long as you don't
really need it, then what you
have to do is
first save your money up to R200 million multiplied
by the rule of 10, which is R10 million.
This alias is R billion. You must have Rp.
2 billion. If you don't have Rp.
2 billion, don't buy a car, just
Grab it. Because Grab Gojek is like that,
it's always more profitable than
buying a car. The car is just about
psychological safety, right? About
you feeling safe. Just like a house, a
house is not something that is mandatory.
You can rent that house. The house is
just a psychological need. Buy
versus rent. Renting is always more
profitable than buying. The second rule of money is
, annualize everything.
So, what does annalize
everything mean? For example, I want to subscribe
to Netflix. Netflix costs Rp.
150,000 per month, for example. Well, what
I'm not allowed to do with
this money rule, I'm not allowed to look at this.
Oh, this is Rp. 150,000 per month that
I should do. Yes, I
annualize it, I multiply it by 12. So,
times 12, 150 times 12, this
gives a result of approximately IDR 1.8
million per year. So you have to look at
your expenses, yes, look at them per year,
not per month, so that they feel
higher. So you can separate whether
it's worth it or not. Because money
always looks small, right? When
you spend, spend,
spend, for example, you buy coffee today
. Oh, I bought coffee today. I
bought coffee today for only R30,000,
for example. But this R30,000, this is
only daily, this is per day. If it's per
week, oh for example, if I work 5 days
, that means I multiply it by 5, it's 150.
How much does that mean per month? You just
multiply it by 4 weeks, that's 600.
How much does this mean per year? So you
have to learn to multiply it by 1
year so you can know
how much your monthly expenses are, right? So you
can know how much money you spend in 1 year
by spending IDR 000,000
per day. That means 6 times 12,
if you multiply it you get the number 7.2
for example. So learn to multiply
by 12, okay? Annualize all your expenses.
But don't be mistaken, okay? I
don't want you to reduce
your spending. What you should do is
increase your income. You can't
reduce your expenses like that. But like
this, you get Netflix data worth Rp.
150,000 every month. Don't
look at it like that. I subscribe to Netflix so I
can watch thousands of hours of stuff like that, right? World of
Films is 1.8 million every year.
Is this worth it? Well, you have to
ask yourself that. If
you think it's worth it and go for it, then
why not? Same as copy for example.
Do you drink coffee every day when you wake up and go to work
every day? That's worth 7.2 million
every year based on
your current income. If it's worth it, that's
it, but if it's not worth it, don't
do it. So learn to see
or learn to evaluate whether
this is worth it. Not based on a
monthly basis, not based on a daily basis, but
annually, that's how it's calculated. That's the
second rule of money. The
third rule is to always look at the
total cost. I call it total
cost row. For example, if you want to buy a
cellphone, let's say it has three
cameras, right? Yes, the
latest iPhone, for example, the price of this iPhone
is IDR 10 million.
This is what ordinary people usually see,
oh this cellphone costs IDR 10 million. But
the fact is that this cellphone is not IDR 10 million. In fact,
after you bought a cellphone, what did you buy? Oh
I have to buy a case. Oh yeah, I have to
buy an additional screen protector, for example
. Oh I have to buy this additional charger
. For example, the casing costs Rp. 100,000. A
screen protector, for example, costs Rp. 100,000, a
charger, for example, Rp. 100,000, and then
there's the problem of, "Oh, I have to buy the apps
that are inside, I have to move them
, I have to buy A, B, C, and
so on." So, the total cost is
not actually IDR 10 million, it could be
IDR 1 million, for example. So, learn to look at
everything from the total cost.
That's another simple example.
For example, if you want to buy a car, well, this is the
knowledge that people have, for example, look, oh,
this is a car. This car costs, for example,
R billion, right? Yes, the price of this car is
IDR 1 billion. But you have to see
how much insurance there is
per year. How much do I have to pay
? Yes, for example, the insurance is IDR 50
million. Another example is I have to change
the oil, I have to buy petrol. So,
how much gasoline can this produce each year? For example
, I just bought Rp. 50 million.
Then oh yes, in this car, for example, there are
often damages and so on,
flat tires. For example, if we're talking about
additional costs, I don't know what they are
out there, right? add for example,
yes, we say Rp. 50 million. So the price you
paid for the car wasn't Rp billion. The price you
bought the car was Rp billion plus 50 + 50
+ 50. The price you bought the car was
billions like that. So learn to look at the
total cost, not just look at the label or
price tag. So when you already know
that when you want to buy, for example, a cellphone, you have to have a
casing, what else, and
then you have to add more, for example, you have to
have iCloud, for example, on an iPhone, you
have to have additional storage, you pay
again, for example, IDR 100,000, so to
maintain this cellphone,
for example, every year, you need IDR 400,000, so
you pay IDR 10 million to spend IDR
400,000 every year. Well, it
should be like that. For example, car
insurance, you pay R billion to
take out, for example, R50 million.
So you have to see whether you are capable or
not. So this goes back to
rule number one, right? You have to
have 10 times the rule of 10. This
has to be in your cash, like that. If
your money is tight, for example, you
want to buy a car worth IDR 1 billion, but your money is
only IDR 1.5 billion, for example. So, the
remaining IDR 00 million is gone, suddenly in 1
year your money is minus, for example, it
becomes IDR 350 million, which is a decrease of IDR 50 million.
Why? Because of insurance, because of petrol,
and other additional costs.
This Rp. 150 million of your money leaves you with 350. So
basically you can't afford to buy
this car. So learn to see what is
called the total cost rule. So you
have to look at the total cost of everything
because there is always something called
hidden cost in someone's sales. The
fourth rule, in my opinion, is
quite life-changing, namely cost
peruse.
This is me, I used to really like buying
shoes. So when I earn a
lot of money, I buy a total of
three or four shoes in my wardrobe.
And I don't know this concept. If
I had known this concept earlier, I
wouldn't have bought so many shoes. So
, for example, let's say I have one
shoe over here. Think of these as
shoes. Well, this is shoe A. Then this is
shoe B. Well, this shoe A, for example,
costs Rp. 1 million, right? I've bought
these B shoes. I suddenly a
few days after that I wanted to
buy it too, the price was for example IDR 5 million
cost per use. You have to calculate this cost per rule,
okay? Approximately
how long will these shoes last? 1
year for example. Assume that in 1 year there are
365 days, let's assume that
you will wear shoes for 300
days. That means cost per use, right? Every
time you wear these shoes B, it's R1.5
million divided by 300. You just have to
scribble on it and so on, right?
In other words, the cost for you to wear these B shoes once
is Rp. 5,000. Well, this is what you use like
that. Now, for example, if you have two
shoes, for example shoes A and B,
then suddenly you buy another shoe C.
But you can't wear
shoes with B and C like that. You don't
get legs like that. You only have two legs. Yes, that
means you have to count, right? For example, C
is because I already have shoes over
here, shoe A, right?
I've already worn shoe B. Shoe C, for example,
also costs the same IDR 5 million, but
I only wore this shoe C maybe 20
times before it eventually broke and I had to
change the series. So what
I should calculate is,
how much will it cost me to wear these shoes once? Once I
wear these C shoes, they cost Rp. 75,000
per use. So learn to
look at the cost per user. I'm wearing
C shoes for R5,000, is it worth it?
If you think it's worth it, just go ahead
. But in my opinion, if you
already have too many of these and you
feel like this doesn't work, then
don't buy it because you'll only use it
a few times. Besides, humans
can get bored easily. So the
fourth rule is that the cost per lu must be calculated
. For example, this is an example of shoes that I
personally have experience with. You
can also use gadgets if you want to
buy two gadgets. How long do you use a gadget at one time
? You want to buy toys like that,
everything can be applied. The fifth money rule
is the 30 day roll. Well,
you may have heard this often. So
learn to postpone it 30 days
later. So, what exactly is this 30
days roll? For example, let's say
there's a cellphone here, we're talking very well,
for example, here's an iPhone, there's a cellphone
here, you just saw the advertisement out there
on YouTube or on Apple, for example.
Well, Apple immediately made a product
like the iPhone 18, for example, see. Oh, this is a
really good product, the camera is
really good. Well, you want to buy this,
the price is Rp. 20 million for example. So,
before you buy, learn to postpone it.
Pause, wait for 30 days, okay? So
for these 30 days you postpone it. If
after this, for example, in March, you
postpone it, you wait until
April. In April, you still want to have
this cellphone, right? You still feel like oh I
want to buy this iPhone 18 because the
camera is good. So
what should I do? Okay, you can buy
it. But if after 30 days your
thoughts every day are not about
this iPhone 18, then it is not worth
buying. So learn to procrastinate.
Because most human decisions are
made when people are
emotional, when they are
passionate. I just
want to take action like that. So
learn to postpone 30 days. But
this 30 days row rule, this does not apply to the
first drug. So if it's
medicine, you can't wait
30 days to see if I'm still sick or
not. And that is what is called
basic needs. So, for example, if it's food like that,
well, you can't eat it for 30
days. And the third is an
urgent need, yes. For example, your band is going
downhill or
something is wrong with your family. Well, you can't
delay that. You can't use
this 30 days row. But if it's for fun,
you can usually postpone it
for 30 days. The sixth rule is the
roll discount.
Well, I often see a lot of
people who are tempted by
discounts. Oh, this item is 50% off,
the promotion will end in 3 days. There's
this item with a 20% discount, it's almost gone. This is
only for the first 5 people. Well,
now I want to ask you guys.
If there were no discount, would
it be on your list of items
to buy? For example, there's an iPad
over here, I'll sell it to you. This is a
50% discount, from Rp. 10 million to Rp. 5
million. Are you going to buy it or not?
If the answer is yes, even though you initially
didn't think about buying this iPad,
then you have fallen into
this discount trap. So this discount rule
only applies when, for example, I
really want to buy this, oh, this iPad,
I want to buy it, but it just so happens that
there's a discount. Well, he just bought
his iPad. So don't create
demand. Don't suddenly want
something just because it's on
sale. So,
in my opinion, this roll discount is very effective. I used to
apply this everywhere.
That's why I don't really believe in
discounts, unless I
really need it. So if I
need it and it happens to be on
sale, thank God. But if I don't
need the item at a discount,
I won't buy it. No matter how
big the discount is or whatever,
I won't buy it. If I don't
need it, I won't buy it. So discounts
can lower prices, but don't
let the price reduction create
demand. The seventh money rule is
called the temporary income rule. We
call it the temporary income rule. So,
for example, you now have a salary of Rp
million
, and suddenly you think your work is
really good, you get a bonus from
your boss. For example, the bonus is IDR 2 million.
Well, we call this temporary income
as temporary income,
right? This is me, if you
watch this channel often, I
will improve your financial literacy
. So if you have friends
who can spare a few tens of minutes
of your life, because for example,
this video is only 30 minutes or 1 hour, this is only
at most 5% of your 1 24 hours
. So, please share it with your other friends
if you think this video is useful
. So, for example, your bonus is IDR 20
million. Well, this is called temporary. So,
don't let this million Rupiah tie you up and
suddenly you're paying off a mortgage for a house or a
car. Well, don't do this. What
's called a bonus or surprise money, we
talk about, you should invest this, right?
So it's a temporary income rule. Don't
assume that this bonus will
come soon. It's like surprise money.
The surprise money won't come if you
make a decision today just to go into
debt for the next 5 years. Well, this is
really not pois. So, for
example, if you have a bonus of IDR million, don't
assume you will continue to get IDR million
every month. Well, that way of
thinking is fatal. The
eighth rule, yes. learn to differentiate between
fixed and variable. Well, this is
very important. So, what does that mean?
What is the thing called fixed cost?
Food is a fixed cost. So it can be
divided into two, right? Fixed cost is
food, right? You need to drink
, for example electricity. Well, that's fixed,
namely a place to live, food and clothing. Well, this is a
fixed cost, right? You have to calculate
how much your fixed costs are. So learn to
box, yes, this is the income and these are
fixed expenses or
variable expenses. the variables. What are some examples
? For example, this month a friend of mine is having a
birthday. This means that if it's
my friend's birthday, I'll
spend money and give him a gift like that.
Well, that's a very wrong way of thinking
. This is not a fixed cost, it is a variable.
Well, reduce it. For example, if your friend is
having a birthday or something, but your money
is too tight, you don't need to
buy him a gift or whatever. You
save first. You should fix
your finances first, then after
your finances are okay, after everything is okay, then you can
give a gift to your friend. Therefore, the
input cost variable is the
input, namely the variable expenditure
which is very varied. When
your income is very fluctuating,
you keep hunting for something that you
don't know
how much your expenses will be. This is getting to be a
financial mess. The ninth rule is loan to
gift.
So, there are a lot of
my friends out there who like to borrow money.
So, soul, can I borrow money
for this, right? Sou gua can also
borrow R10 million and so on. Well, I'm
sure that those of you who have at least
a little money and your friends know that
you like to borrow money from you. So,
the answer is, is it okay to lend it to someone?
Yes. But when you lend something to
someone, consider it a gift. So
don't think of it as a loan. For example, a
friend of mine wants to borrow
R10 million from me, but I can't
afford it. So, consider the money you lent
to your friend as lost. So,
for example, my friend wants to borrow R10 million,
all I can afford to lose is maybe R2
million. So what I lent to
my friend was not R million. Even though he
needed R10 million, I
lent him R million. So it's like I'm just giving
him a gift. I don't
expect this R million to come back to me like that
. Yes, that's good, that's a good friend,
right? If you don't come back, that's
okay. This is just my
personal money. So let's learn to make loans to gifts
. So, for example, when you
have money, you have to think about
how much you are prepared to lose. Don't think that
your friend can return your money.
Because if he could return your money,
he wouldn't borrow it. In the first place,
his finances were already good.
If he can't borrow it from you,
then give it to him. When you want someone to
lend you money, think of it as
looking for it for them. think of it as money
for them only.
