Oh, also Bamboo Lab betrays open- source
community. I guess we'll talk about that
in this video and a few other things.
Yeah, this one's going to be a mess,

But should be fun. I mean, let's go back
in time about a month before I mean any
of the stuff with Bamboo Lab went down
and maybe for fun see if you can spot
the point in this video where

It's new printer day. I've got this one.
I've also got this one.
And then I've also got this one. We'll
get to this other stuff later. Let me
know if you want to see these deltas.
That could be fun. But let's get this
back inside. I'm all wet. Too excited.
Okay, so with uh new printers always
comes space constraints. This is a
pretty solid table. I think what I'll do
is I'll set up the prer in here. We'll
move the X1C into the main studio. This
new guy can go right there beside the
H2D here and this uh Sunloo filament
dryer. I've got some room there for
that. And then down this end, I think
it's time to finally retire the 2A ones,
which oh man, I'm sad to do. I the these
have been the best printers ever.
Honestly, I've had no issues with them,
and I've gotten some of the best prints
ever out of them. You know, from the
moment I first bought a Bamboo Lab
printer and got it all set up, it's just
been chef's kiss. Like, it was these
printers that really jumpstarted my love
for FDM printing. Up until this point, I
always kind like it was cool, but I
hated it because it was it was so
temperamental. It was so difficult. I
used to be of the opinion that resin
printing was so much easier. But then
with these printers, there was this
inversion and suddenly FDM printing was
the beginner friendly like easy thing.
And it's yeah, but they've served their
purpose. You know, I've had them here
for a long time. They're taking up room.
I'm using them less and less in place of
other printers. The H2D I use all the
time. Like I've got nearly,000 hours on
this thing. It's just it's never skipped
a beat. It didn't do miniatures super
great last time I tried. I haven't
really tried that again. I I think we
will revisit that because we are going
to try that uh with the producer at some
point. So, we'll revisit multi-noszle
support material blah blah blah at some
point. Hey, Pippen. And now I'm just
going to give these away cuz it's so
much easier than trying to sell it. Um
if you're in my Discord server and
you're in Australia, uh first in best
rest, I'll make a post in there. Just
reply to it or whatever and we'll
organize it. I'll send it to you. Just
cover the cost of shipping. That's all I
ask. I'll get you a quote. Usually, it's
not much in Australia. I'm on the East
Coast. Usually, it's between 30 and 50
bucks to send a printer. If you are on
the West Coast, it can get up a bit. I
We did one last year. I think it was
like 150 bucks or something. So, that
sucked. But, you know, they're big
things sort of. So, the Six Side
Discord's a good place to hang out to
catch little things like that.
Definitely. The last one I gave away was
the what's it called? the new Eligu one.
New ear. I say new. No, it's like it's
it's now the the it's now the old one
because there's a new Centauri or
Centtory, however you say it, two that's
just come out. They sent me the first
one and it was okay for a little bit,
but then I started running into some
problems with it, I think. Hang on, I
took some notes. So, off the bat, like
the build quality, like some stuff that
wasn't super important, like the the
packaging was super spartan. It
everything felt cheap as [ __ ] the door
magnet popped out and and then the
things that actually mattered. Uh the
first thing I noticed is it didn't have
any blockage detection. That was kind of
a pain. I'm used to printers like this
now that'll just tell you like, "Hey, uh
no filament's coming out. Can you please
check the printer?" Whereas, you know,
the the carbon will just keep printing
and you don't know that you've had a
print failure, and it's just a massive
waste of time and material. Anyway, it
kept printing fine for a little bit. I
ran a few more jobs on it, but then
something just went catastrophically
wrong. I didn't do anything. I swear it
just it killed itself. It suddenly
stopped heating up. It started throwing
this like weird error, this heating
anomaly error. I tried taking the hotend
apart to see like what was going on,
then putting it back together. Also, I
noticed this like weird issue with like
dust coming off the hot end. I looked
that up. Apparently, it's something to
do with uh like some shitty thermal
compound that they use at the factory
that just breaks down over time. But
basically, yeah, gave up on that
printer. I just I don't have time for
printers to to not work. Okay, the the
bar has been set. I expect my printers
to give me a good user experience at
this point. Uh, and I just don't have
the patience for them when they don't.
So, I gave that printer away in the
Discord as well. Uh, I haven't had any
updates on it if that user was able to
get it working yet. Hopefully, they
could. But anyway, I know a few of you
are waiting on an update on that
printer. I'm so disappointed with Eligu,
with FDM printers. Like, my my
confidence has never been lower for
them. I I had such a rotten experience
with the the Neptunes, the Neptune 4,
Neptune 3, the ones that I got
personally, I liked, even if the print
quality was a little hairy. But then
people who bought them on my
recommendation had a miserable time,
which made me feel terrible. And then
the Neptune 4 that they sent me was
absolute trash. I tried to make a video
with it and it was just a nightmare. So,
I scrapped that. I don't know. Maybe
this new one, the Centauri 2, they'll
finally have figured their [ __ ] out. I
hope so. I do like Eligu. I like their
resin printers. They're usually pretty
good. Anyway, we've got work to do. You
want to help me with this box, buddy? I
know you love unboxings.

Now, I saw
there's a little bit of controversy with
Bamboo Lab at the moment. I watched
Lewis Rossman's video on it. Basically,
Bamboo Lab's trying to like uh enforce a
developer on GitHub to take their [ __ ]
down, but that developer has used open
source code that Bamboo Lab published
that they were also using that they got
from like other slicers. There's a
there's a long lineage of this open-
source slicer code. Um, and under that
license, Bamboo Lab is supposed to
publish their own code under the same
license, which grants other people the
right to publish and modify and fork,
etc., all that stuff. Um, but it looks
like they're being massive dicks about
it and trying to like threaten people
and stuff and it's just it's a it's a
it's not a good look and I don't like
it. I'm not going to make a whole video
about it myself. You know, we've got
advocates like Lewis Rossman who are
attracting a way larger audience on
that. So, yeah, before we continue, I
just thought that was probably worth
mentioning in case you weren't aware of
the news. If not, I'll leave a link to
Lewis's video in the description. You
can go check that out. Definitely worth
watching. Um yeah, that guy has done so
much so much for the community on a
number of issues. Like there are so many
things that companies constantly try and
want to do that is anti-consumer.
There's a long history of it. It's not
just 3D printers, it's, you know, it's
Apple, it's computers, it's phones, it's
cars, BMW, Volkswagen, there was a there
was a thing. Yeah. It it turns out that
when is, you know, the the thing that
governs how society runs, uh, you get
negative outcomes that are
anti-consumer, antihuman.
Who [ __ ] knew? Turns out some really
smart people have known about this for a
very long time. [laughter]
I've got a ton of books, actually. Hold
up. Going to stop myself right there. I
didn't really feel like I had anything
to add to the whole bamboo thing. Like,
everything that needs to be said has
been said by other people. It's been
really well addressed at this point. And
if you somehow aren't aware of it, well,
at least you are now. And again, there's
links down below. You can dig into it
further. And because I felt like I
didn't really have anything to add to
it, I got lost on a 20inut detour here
about like how companies in general just
keep doing really shitty things because
of the system within which they operate
from. But I don't think you came here
for a 20inut systemic critique. I think
you're here for 3D printing. So, we're
going to keep it on 3D printing. I've
cut all of that out. And if you really
want to see it and if I've had the balls
to post it, there'll be a link for that
in the description, too. And it'll be on
my other channel where I do whatever.
But for the meantime, let's get back to
the 3D printers. Oh, and for anyone
wondering if I'm like going to continue
to recommend Bamboo Lab printers, it's
really complicated. And actually, if
you're having fun watching this video,
stick around and you'll understand why
by the end of it very clearly why this
is not such an easy thing for me at
least to put my foot down firmly and
say, "Huh, I'll never buy another Bamboo
Lab printer again or I'll never
recommend that you buy one." It's just
it's really [laughter] you know what it
is. It's nuanced. Anyway, back to the
unboxing. Okay, we got some accessories.
Spare nozzle. That's nice.
By the way, um
While I did buy the H2D myself, this was
almost $4,000 Australian dollars. This
was a crazy investment for the channel.
So, thank you, my my dear patrons, for
your help with that. I could not have
done it without you. This one, and this
is the H2S, by the way. The little one,
the AD5X from Flash Forge and the big
one, uh, the XL from Prusser, those were
all sent to me by the companies, and
they all agreed to my usual creator
[ __ ] which is here, and I'll put it
in the description as well. You know, I
wish I could buy them all myself. I
would feel much better about it that
way. But, you know, at least under these
conditions, I feel like that gives the
company the least amount of influence
over me as possible. Uh there is still
some influence because I obviously I've
got the thing for free. So, just keep

Now, I'm actually I'm really excited for
this printer in particular because the
way that I've come to use the H2D is
primarily just with one nozzle. So, the
fact that this gives you the full print
volume with a single nozzle is pretty
much perfect. Or in theory, it should be
perfect. I I have a feeling I'm going to
like this printer a lot just because I
love the the H2D. It's like that
printer. I can't say enough good things
about it. Like the qu the build quality,
the print quality, the the user
experience, just everything about that
printer is amazing. Anyway,
I think this lifts off,
but it's Aha. There's tape here and
here. Come on.
The things I do for footage in there and
there. And now that guy. Ah, yes. He
just lifts right off. Beautiful. I was
really glad to hear that you guys loved
the second installment of the LAR video.
I'm really I'm trying to break new
ground here with with 3D printing
content. trying to create stuff stuff
that you know is a bit more conducive to
playing on the television while you have
your dinner and relax or whatever rather
than like short pathy little here's what
happens if you do X or whatever. You
know, I'm trying to just model this
channel on the stuff that I love to
watch, which lately has been like a lot
of automotive stuff. You know, I'll
watch a 2-hour video on a guy fixing a
car and love every second of it. And
judging by the views on that on those
videos, a lot of other people do as
well. And I think we're missing that
in the 3D printing space. What do I do

can set up a print to have different
colors and you don't have to manually
change filaments throughout it. That is
cool. But anyway, let's get you open and

but yeah, I do worry about that with
this. But you know the A1's, they're
open air printers and they were dead
quiet. So maybe it'll be okay. So, how

if these go on the back, I'm going to be

they gave me a 02 nozzle, so that's

seen of other people's videos of that
printer, I think I've got my work cut
out for me, you know, like just in terms
of getting it all set up and everything.

Pruschia experience and first
non-Chinese printer,

sure is just a fork of Orca Slicer. I've
also gone ahead and updated Orca Slicer
to the latest version. Interestingly, in
their software, Flash, what the [ __ ] is
it called? Flash [ __ ] Flash Studio.
When I first installed that, it said,
"Oh, hey, make sure that your printer is
updated to the latest firmware,
otherwise it's going to appear offline
in the slicer, and that's probably why
it was offline on the phone, too, right?
And their slicer, it links to a Google
Drive with an older version than if you
go to their website, look up this
printer, and then find its firmware
there." So, that that's really
unfortunately not very good user
experience, I will say, out of the box
for this thing. Uh, and the fact that
we're still struggling here to to
connect to it. But anyway, let's let's
have a look now on the computer. Ah,
okay. We are connected to the to the
printer here. That's good. Let's check
if we can do the same with Orca. If I
remember right from last time, I used
this. You have to click on this button

so for some reason, by default, it says
we got a 0.25 mm nozzle and a smooth
high temp plate. I don't think that's
accurate. I think textured PEI. It's got
a textured PEI plate by default and 4 mm
nozzle. Or I mean it better have a
point4 mm nozzle. I'm assuming that it
does. And now I got to set the filaments
again. Jesus. I got to say, Flash Forge,
your brand new user experience still
really sucks. Okay, there we go. What
was I doing? Printing this in black.

draft profile. I don't care if this
thing's not like mint. It's going to

It's easy to hate on this company right
now, but god damn it, do they do 3D

It's mostly fan noise that's really
annoying, but there's also a decent
amount of motor noise, too.
So, I don't love that. The H2S, of
course, you almost can't even hear it.
If I open the door, you can hear the
fans a lot clearer. But yeah, the noise
levels of this thing are so much better
that I just had a flashback. I'm like, I
think there's another box to go with the
flash forge. And there is. Look.
enclosure.
Oh, that'll be good. All right.
Hopefully that'll keep the noise down.
It's heavy.
Mission complete. Look at that. All the
color changes worked. You can see there
it's a little bit hairy, bit stringy,
but the quality despite the draft
profile looks pretty good. Although bit
hairy up there as well. You can see some
like lumps on the wall there, but
generally I'm pretty happy with that.
That's nice. Okay.

That's not bad, is it? For a first
print. And that's going to do the job
nicely, I think. Uh let's let's torch
it. Get rid of this fluff.

Oh, it's perfect. Just what the doctor
ordered. Good job, AD5X. Okay. And
there's that one as well. And
surprisingly, this one's a little bit
hairy, too. And look over here. Check
that out. It's like scars. It's weird.
Surprising. I wonder if it's cuz it's
tall and thin, but it feels pretty
stable.
Yeah, that's unusual. So, this does have
to get bolted to the back of the machine
like that. And then
sort of sits like that. That's pretty
cool.
I'm going to do that off camera cuz
that's going to be a bit fiddly. Okay.
And then that can just go
there like that. Perfect. Now, the AD5X
where I've got this printer set up and
if you look at the way this printer's
designed and then you look at the way
that this enclosure works, it makes the
printer significantly taller and it's
clearly going to interfere with the
shelving I've got here. So, that's just
not and I and I don't have anywhere else
to put the printer other than I could
put it in the other studio next to the
Prusser, but then if it's in there, I
don't care about the noise. So, I think
I'll just leave the enclosure. I'm not
going to bother. Getting back to this
prusser, I didn't really feel like
talking anymore, so I decided to just
get stuck in and try and film as much as
I can along the way. And I'm glad I made
that decision because it ended up taking
a number of hours to get through this.
Despite this being the mostly
preassembled version, there are still a
lot of steps to work through, and I just
I took my time here. The documentation
is topnotch, and if you like taking
things apart and putting them back
together and all that, then this thing's
really going to tickle your tisms. Uh,
these extruders are called Next
Extruders, and they're pretty
interesting. Though, I will say I think
the 3D printed components do kind of let
the quality down in a way. Like, don't
get me wrong, I love 3D printed
solutions to anything and everything,
but on a printer this expensive, seeing
really shitty overhangs like this here,
or wobbly parts like these, it doesn't
really inspire a ton of confidence. But,
I mean, overall, generally, everything
seems pretty solid and well built here.
Getting all of the harnesses for the
neck extruders installed was mostly
pretty satisfying and I really enjoyed
the process except for trying to line up
the little captive bolts with the
threaded holes on the machine as
visibility is super poor even with a
little high-powered torch. Shout out to
Wuben, by the way. They sent me this
little thing a couple of years ago now
at this point, ages ago, and I don't
think I've ever used it in a video till
this point. But I have used it a ton
when working on the car and and around
the house at night and for whatever. Um,
yeah, it's actually pretty good. Anyway,
with all those harnesses physically
fitted to the machine, you then have to
plug in all the electronics for them.
Around the back of the printer there,
there's a little housing that contains
the machine spirit and all of its sacred
harness docking sites. The Wi-Fi antenna
needs to be installed here too at this
point and is made up of a few different
components that need to be assembled and
then carefully routed into this housing
before buttoning everything back up.
These spool holders I really like the
design of. They're a two-piece
telescopic injection molded thing that,
as far as I know, can accept any spool
you throw at it, and they install with
these clever little spring-loaded nuts
that secure themselves inside the
channels in the frame of the printer.
Then once all that's fit and finished,
all that's left to do before powering on
the machine is popping each of the neck
extruders into position and plugging in
all of their connections. [music]
Now, before running through the
calibration process, I grabbed the
latest firmware from the Prussa website,
chucked it on the USB, and installed
that. And now for the calibration. This
is unlike any other modern printer I've
experienced yet. It's not a matter of
pressing the start button and walking
away for 20 30 minutes like you might be
used to because here with this printer
you are very much a vital component of
the calibration process yourself and are
required to be on call and ready with
your tools to follow along each step.
Now I didn't record all the steps here
as I was really starting to strain at
the edges of my patience here. Suffice
it to say, there's a lot to do. It takes
a long time and you have to pay close
attention to the details. But once you
do make it through to the other side and
you see that tool head successfully
start to dock and undock the next
strudooters, it is extremely cool, I
must say. Now, some usability stuff that
jumped out at me right away once we had
this thing up and running. Loading
filament absolutely sucks. I do not like
it at all. You got to do the awkward
little manual feeding movement, pushing
it in an inch at a time, and if you're
not careful, you kink your filament
really easily. So, if you've got brittle
filaments, you know, you could break
them. I tried to load TPU onto one of
them, but I couldn't figure out how to
get it past the first filament sensor
there. I mean, it's just the resistance
is too high. You just can't get TPU into
it. I'll have to come back to that
later. There's there's probably a
certain process you have to do. And
these PTFE tubes, they're very long. It
takes a long time to push the filament
all the way through. I don't I don't
love that about this uh Prussa slicer. I
know a lot of people love this slicer.
I'm probably just not used to it, but
for my first job that I set up here. I
found it to be quite opaque in what I
wanted to do. For starters, just like
the Flash Forge printer, you know, it it
didn't sync up the filaments. I had told
the Prusser through its menu what I'd
loaded into it, but for some reason,
Prusser slicer wouldn't acknowledge
that. So, I had to manually set up
filaments in there again. And also for
this print, I wanted to take advantage
of PETG for the support material for a
PLA model. So we could really take
advantage of the multiple nozzles here.
And I also had it change color of PLA a
few different times. And I found that
just a bit confusing, too, about how to
actually tell the slicer which filament
to use as the support material. It
wasn't like an obvious thing. I had to
go diving deep into the settings to
figure that out. And I feel like that
should be something that's a little bit
more straightforward. But otherwise,
check it out. Look at the quality of the
mating surface here where the support
material was on this thing. It's
flawless. This is a really good print.
The yellow PLA at the top there, you can
see, is pretty bad. I'm pretty sure that
particular roll just needs to be dried
out. Ooh. Also, this printer does not
have a poop shoot. Instead, what it does
is it drapes its waist off the front of
the build plate, which while this does
create a little tiny bit of extra work
for you each print, especially if you
used more than a couple of the neck
extruders, I must say I do really like
the drama of it.

Now, Michael already does come split
into multiple pieces. But to start with,
I am going to bring in a version where
he's already preassembled just to work
out my scale first. So, you can get an
idea already of how big he is by
default. Let's start playing with the
numbers here. So, that's a,000%. That
might be perfect, actually. You know
what? I'm going to find a Titan head
real quick for reference. Oh,
h he's going to be significantly bigger
than a Titan. That's fine. Whatever.

particular Titan does have a very small
head. That's the Asimus war construct,

What about 500? Okay, that's 500%. So,
he'll be bigger than a warlord titan,
but not by much, I think. Yeah, 500%.
That should be pretty sweet. Let's do
that. And so, now that I know it's 500%,
I'll start bringing in these individual
pieces and we'll go from there sometime
later.
Check it out. This was actually very
quick to do. Ah, I'm so spoiled with my
fleet of FDM printers. If you ever have
the opportunity to own more than a
couple of FDM 3D printers, h I I can't
recommend it enough. It's It's so cool
when you have them all working together
on a big project like this. Even small
projects, too. If you've got a few parts
to print out, just being able to do them
in parallel, it's so nice is really it
is. It is so nice. Ah, but of course,
you are watching once in a sixide. So,
this did not all come to be without any
headaches. In fact, right away, two out
of three of our brand new printers had
some really annoying problems. Can you
guess which ones? Let's start with uh
the flash forge. So, it just completely
forgot how to do a first layer. It was
like the nozzle was way too close to the
bed. So, it was just doing an awful
first layer. And if you didn't know,
with FDM printing, there is no layer
more important than your first layer.
You want your first layer to be perfect.
And more and more at this point, you
want your 3D printer to be able to do a
first layer without you having to stand
around and babying the thing to make
sure that it's doing that. So anyway, I
ran a complete recalibration of the
Flash Forge printer, and again, it still
struggled to put down a good first layer
here. The nozzle was still too close. I
double checked the slicer to see if I'd
done anything wrong in there, and it all
looked good. First layer preview looked
nice. And so, returning to the printer,
I was forced to dive into the settings
and look for something called Z offset
or Z offset, however you want to say it.
And this is a setting that I only know
about back from the days when FDM
printers were [ __ ] [laughter]
back from the dark days. And when I
eventually found that setting, which of
course is like not labeled or anything,
you kind of just have to you had to know
what you were looking for. Oops. I
increased that a whole bunch. And
finally, I was able to get some good
first layers off the flash forge. Uh we
did these parts here, and they're not
bad. It's white filament, so you won't
be able to see super well at this point.
The quality, I mean, I am shooting under
like direct overhead lighting. that does
tend to exacerbate the layer lines and
give you the the harshest idea of the
print quality. But yeah, I don't know
why it did that. And also, it decided to
just give up on the networking as well.
Super weird. I had this problem with the
last Flash Forge printer as well. Just
the networking side of things. They've
really got a long way to go. It it seems
like for one, the printer just dropped
off my network completely and I had to
like manually reconnect to it. But then
once connected and the slicer is
acknowledging, hey, I can see it. at
least when you try and manually connect
to it. On the device page, it's still
apparently non-existent and when you
slice a print, you still can't send it
over the network. So, I had to revert
back to a using a USB drive. So, it
really felt like stepping back in time
with the Flash Forge. Not a good
experience. It required some expertise
that I'd rather not have to dredge up to
get my printers to work. You know, like
I said, I really at this point, we
should all expect our 3D printers to
just nail that first layer where we can
just start the print, walk away. We
don't have to baby it, you know. So
disappointing from Flash Forge. I will
say the next printer that I had to
contend with. If you guessed Prussa XL,
you were right. Uh and remarkably
similar issues to what we just had on
the Flash Forge. uh it completely forgot
its level and it seemed like the nozzle
was way too close to the build plate and
so just you know it was trying to push
filament out but it just it wasn't
coming out and so we had even worse
first layer performance than the flash
forge really really bad. Thankfully
though running the offset calibration
again which is a lengthy one but it is a
hands-off one which is nice. You just
install the little tool thingy and then
you hit go and it does its thing for
each tool head. Thankfully running that
singular calibration resolved the issue
and then it was back to really fantastic
first layers from the XL and we were
able to print this piece which turned
out beautiful and this is in that
sparkly galaxy black prusser PLA. It
looks really really nice. But uh as you
can see there was still some stringing
problems and some of this like
lumpiness. I don't know what that's
about. Oh, and before I printed this
piece, actually, this leg, this was the
first print on the XL after fixing that
bed level issue. And yeah, quality like
good. It's a pretty good print, but
yeah, it's just got that lumpiness in a
couple spots. Bit stringy. I just I'm
just we're just at a point where I just
I you know, I expect not to see that
kind of stuff. Oh, and the Prusso, by
the way, is really really nice and
quiet.
And then what can I say? The the H2S was
perfect. No network connectivity
problems, no bed level problems. I was
able to just slice stuff, send it to it,
and get these incredible, incredible
prints. Out of all of them, they look
the best, I think. And, you know, it was
even able to like switch filaments for
me when one spool ran out. I'm sure the
other two do that as well, but it's
just, you know, the whole from from
start to finish, just the whole just
everything about using those printers is
is exquisite.
Yeah. And God, it makes it so hard to to
recommend anything other than a B. Oops.
Other than a Bamboo Lab. God damn it.
[laughter] Do you see the the
predicament that I'm in? You know,
people want to know what printer I
recommend. It's hard to recommend Bamboo
Lab right now because they're doing
scummy stuff. But it's hard to recommend
anything else because look at these
prints, you know, no messing about, just
slice print. Hello, let's go. And
really, really great results. But
anyway, it is time, I think, to put this
together. It's really interesting,
actually. The parts of this model that
have been sliced such that when you put
them back together, the two mating
surfaces are the first layer, the layer
from which the prints printed from. When
you put them together, there is a seam,
but it it does almost disappear. Versus
parts like this, where this this is the
face that was printed on the bed, but
this one, which is also a flat mating
surface, was not. And so it has very
subtle rounded edges. Uh, which does
mean when you put it together, it's a
more prominent seam around the model.
So, I think we will have to do some gap
filling, but that's all right because
I've got something that I think is going
to work pretty well for it and not be
too much fuss. Not [ __ ] Millie putt.
Jesus Christ. [laughter]
You got to have heroic levels of
patience to deal with that [ __ ] for gap
filling. Uh, I don't. Anyway, let's put
it together. I think this will be fun.
And I'm just going to use super glue,
too. I'm going to use that. Uh, where is
it? There you are.
this stuff that I was raving about in
the last video. Let's see if it's still
good and if I was right. And this
incredible cap pin system has preserved
our glue.
Okay.
Okay. So far so good.
Oh, we have super glue. I'm hoping it
doesn't grab too quickly because I want
to sort of spread it around, get it in
position. That looks pretty good. Okay.
Yes, this is going to be sweet. Buddy of
mine recently introduced me to this band
from the 90s called Morphine.
They're a three-piece bass, drums, and
saxophone, and it is so cool. Um, I
grabbed the compilation album
at Your Service, and I highly recommend
it. Okay, that looks like it's going to
work well. How cool is this piece?
Oh, it looks like it would make a mad
piece of terrain, too. Check it out.
Like a positive Sarlac pit.
Sarlac [snorts] spire. How about that?

God, I just launched that thing. And you
know what? It's totally fine. Just
another reason to love FDM more than
resin.
Lightweight parts, tough as hell.

bottle of superglue that I've used 100%
of without the tip getting all messed
up. This is sick. This is worth the
price tag. But I've not finished. Um, so
I got to go get some.

All right, I got the goods.
You know, we're at [snorts] the point
now where we're pretty much everything's
assembled into the original pieces as
provided by M3DCon. And you know what?
Testament to his craft. This model is so
comfortable and happy at 500% scale.
Like the details are just ah incredible.
I asked him 3D on how long did you spend
on this thing? Um and he told me it was
between 20 25 hours somewhere around
there. So, you know, it's you got to
appreciate a piece of art like this. You
really do. But as I was putting all this
together, uh, I realized
I'd made a glaring omission. In fact,
Oh, yeah. Thanks, mate. Nice to meet
you. Yeah. Yeah. Good stuff. Um, I only
printed one arm. There's a whole other
arm that I forgot. So, I ran that off
on the H2S. Let's go grab that now.
Lovely. Looking good.
Looking very good. So, I'm going to now
finish putting this guy together and
then we'll look at gap filling.

>> I can't remember how adept I was at
complaining about things back then, but
I really hated the process of trying to
gap fill with Millie pot, and I haven't
touched it since. This stuff sucks. One
option we might play with today,
although I don't know how well it'll
work, is air dry clay. You know, this
stuff is really, really easily
malleable. I think it'll be sticky
enough that it'll work. But the thing I
want to try first is right here. This is
another another one of those things that
a company sent me forever ago and has
just never made it into a video until
now. Uh fun cricole or funk light curing
putty. So this is a a really thick UV
putty paste stuff. And I've got my
little UV torch there.
Let's give that a go first. See if that
works. And if that works, fantastic.
We'll just go around do the whole model
with that. Uh, if it sucks, we'll try
this. If this sucks, I'll just throw the
thing in the bin and we'll call it done.
All right.
Clay shaper brush. Haven't had this
thing out of the drawer in a very long
time. You can see the old milliput on
it. It was just a nightmare. [ __ ] I
hate Millie pot. All right, let's
hopefully it'll work better with this
stuff here.
Do you want to see it? There it is. It
looks like uh Well, never mind what it
looks like. It smells smells like resin.
Yeah. Okay. But it's thick. It's really
It's really quite thick. You see that? I
hopefully that's showing up on camera.
Ooh,
lovely.
Yeah, I'm optimistic. I think this will
work. This feels pretty good. This is
the kind of amazing thing you can whip
up in 2 minutes. with just some
rudimentary
CAD skills. Seriously, if you've not
taken the time yet to learn CAD, it'll
change your life. All right, let's begin
right there. So, this first one, this is
a really tiny tiny seam. Can't even feel
it really, but you can definitely see
it. So, I guess we'll just
we'll just smoosh it on. Oh dear.
Okay.
Okay.
All right.
Once you get good purchase on it, it
does does sort of spread.
Oh, you know what, though? I'm getting
the sense that for best results, you're
going to want to sand this afterwards,
aren't you? I don't want to do that. I
really don't want to do that. Maybe I
can like thumb it.
Yeah. And then just be careful not to
contaminate anything with my thumb now
and my finger. It's the thing with
working with these UV resins. You got to
be real careful of that cuz whatever you
touch then becomes toxic and dangerous.
This stuff is thick.
H
could work. Let's hit it with the torch.
See, the other thing with UV resins is
like how how long do you put the torch
on it for? You know, I don't know, Joe.
Get my fingers to Is it greasy? Are you
a greasy resin? A dirty dirty greasy
resin. When are you safe? Tell me.
Ah, it's still tacky. Hang on.
Okay. Uh
aw. No, I don't like it. You see that?
Still tacky. And
it's like I can still spread it. No,
this stuff's trash.
Okay, [sighs]
whatever. Now I got to clean it off.
[ __ ] sake. That's why I hate resin,
man. Anything resin is such a pain in
the ass. Got to put fresh gloves on. Get
some paper towels and alcohol. Start
cleaning.
This guy winges so much.
Yeah, that's just lifting off
completely. Looks like. No worries. Then
onto the next solution.
Sorry, fun creek hole, but that ain't
going to fly. Okay, final solution.
Air dry clay.
There we go. It's water-based, right?
Like, it's a little bit dry and flaky at
the moment. But if I I wonder if I added
a little bit of water to it, if we can
increase its effectiveness as a gap
filler, probably. Right.
It'll just take a little longer to dry,
right? More
water.
Nothing like getting your hands dirty.
It feels Yeah. A little more pliable, a
little more tacky. I think that could
work. Pretty big one here
around the arm and torso. That might be
a good proving ground. Just get some of
this stuff.
Oh yeah. I don't even need any tools. I
can just do that with my finger.
Oh yes, that's a winner. We just run
that around the whole thing.
Oh yeah.
Probably won't even notice that with
some paint. It'll just disappear.
Vanish.
Vanish. Never here. Okay. Uh maybe even
like a little bit of water on there. Oh
yeah. A little bit of smoothing
smoothing action.
All right.
The real question though is is it going
to stick once it dries? I think it will,
but uh we'll we'll see, won't we? But if
this works. Oh man, gap filling just got
quite fun. Hell yeah. Do I need to film
the rest of this? Probably not. Let's
just super cut to
when I'm done. That makes my life
easier. You don't need to see anymore.
And snap. I'm on the wrong side.
Wow. [sighs] I need to sit down. Okay.
The gap filling with the air dry clay,
it was quite laborious. It did take a
long time, but I will say I really
enjoyed it. Like, you get a bit of water
into it. It's just so smooth. It's so
easy to work with. You can cover an area
with it really quickly and then it's no
big deal to come back a moment later and
just smooth it over with a bit of water.
Yes, I may have dulled the details in
some area, muddied the details, but I
think once we get some paint on it, the
effect is going to be pretty good.
Better than if we just left those gaps
for sure. Uh, he's standing. Wow, how
did that happen? Uh, number of steps.
Obviously, we needed the base. I I was
kind of hoping as this project went on
that he wouldn't need it like that I'd
get it all assembled and put together
and then he would just be balanced such
that he would stand on his own very
comfortably and very stable. Uh but
nope, that was not the case at all. He
definitely needs the base. And I was
looking at the base in the computer and
I could see it had the perfect cutouts
for his feet already. So it just made a
lot of sense to get this base printed as
well. Now, that did present some
challenges. Obviously, we had to cut it
up to fit it on the printers. But before
we could do that, I had to bring it into
Blender first and remove the cavity on
the bottom as well as IMP3D Se's logo.
But I did want to preserve that. And
I'll come back to that in a moment. And
once I did have the bottom of this base
filled in, I brought it back into the
slicer and I cut it up into pieces that
would fit the printers. And then to
preserve that logo, what I did is I took
this back section here with these rock
formations, brought that into Blender,
and then I extruded M3D Se's logo into
3D, and then I used that as a cutting
tool here on the rock. And I think that
turned out really, really nice. I'm
quite happy with that. And now, when it
came to actually erecting Dear Michael
here upon his platform, that
unfortunately was not as easy as
assembling Michael was himself. like
none of the connections really, you
know, made super close contact with each
other just because of the way they were
printed. Whereas a lot of the
connections on Michael were those
perfectly flat first layers. And so
superlue works brilliantly for those and
holds really well. But if you can't get
the two faces to sit pretty with one
another, then you're fighting an uphill
battle. So I switched gears. I grabbed
some of this other adhesive that I have
that I've used for some PLA stuff in the
past that works pretty well. It's much
more goopier and works well to fill up
the gaps between the pieces being glued
together. And that did do the trick. But
to really seal the deal, I grabbed the
soldering iron, heated it up, and worked
my way along each seam, stitching all
the pieces together by literally melting
the plastic together. And that has
created a really nice solid base. And
then to plunk Michael down on top of it,
I really had to pull all the stops to
make sure that he's nice and secure and
stable here. So, first stop, super glue,
which obviously was not going to hold
straight away. Uh, so then stop number
two, soldering iron. Wherever I could
get the thing, I just worked it between
the two plastics, fusing them together.
Stop number three, flooded any of the
remaining gaps with hot glue. Stop
number four, air dry clay. Although I
mean at this point that's really just
for tidying things up and making
everything uniform. And then stop number
five,
pins. And this went exactly as well as
I'd hoped, at least in terms of the
installation. Whether or not the plastic
inside has bonded to the wire
sufficiently for the wire to then act as
a structural pin is anyone's guess. But
what I can say is he does seem pretty
sturdy. Yeah. So, I'm pretty confident
that he's quite well
secured on that base. Ain't you,
Michael?
Yes.

Oh, and whether the air dry clay sticks
well or not, there were a few loose,
dusty, and lumpy bits here and there
that I hadn't smoothed over. And you can
see some of those falling away when like
using the hammer and stuff. But
otherwise, everything feels pretty
locked in. And I'm confident once we get
some paint on it, it's not going
anywhere. So, let's go do that right
now.

almost a month ago, but then my whole
life got [ __ ] detonated to pieces.
I've been horrifically depressed. I just
I haven't been able to come back and

you know, just in a mindset where I can
sit down and talk again. I think I've
made some good progress toward that.

I really I don't like I don't like
talking about my personal problems on
here, you You know, I always want to try
and keep stuff on 3D printing and, you
know, tabletop and I want to keep it
light and inspiring and fun and
whatever, but you know, this is like my
whole life doing this stuff pretty much.
And so when other stuff in my life puts
the brakes on this, you know, I feel I
feel bad. I feel like especially to all
my patrons and stuff, I really owe you
guys a an explanation of of what's going
on. And I'm sorry if this is too much
information for for YouTube
talking about depression and stuff, you
know, but like man, my I don't know if
you've ever been cheated on. It's a it's
a first for me. I was with this girl for
like almost 3 years. I was I was even
going to ask her to marry me later this
year after we launched the the Six Side
Shop. So, I've just been completely
[sighs] I I don't know. I It's weird,
man. It's weird getting like betrayed
like that and lied to again and again
and again. Um, you think you know
someone. Anyway,
uh, Michael here turned out freaking
awesome. The the gap filling with the
the whatever is great. It looks really
good. I'm super happy with it. Um, but
I'm not going to go any further here. I
I I did a base coat with black and then
I went over the top of that with this
nice like dark teal, but this model go
he's always going to he's always going
to remind me of this really [ __ ]
awful time in my life. Um I was going to
say something like, "Hey, if this video
gets like a 100,000 views, we'll come
back and paint the rest of it." But I
think I just got to get rid of it. Uh if
so, God, what do I do? Um you know what?
I'll make a uh I'll make I'll put on
eBay, I guess, cuz I really God Yeah, I
got to start I got to really start
making some extra money now. Um cuz with
her gone, you know, all my expenses have
basically doubled. Rent, electricity,
whatever. I've been taking a lot of
steps to try and get my electricity
down, which is challenging because it's
like the middle of winter right now.
It's very cold. Um but it's also it's
also been good to like hyperfixate on
that, you know, through this time. And
uh I might even I think for my next
video sort of step away from tabletop
for a bit and just we'll do 3D printing
but you know bit more lifestyle
household stuff. Um that's really been
keeping me going and it would be nice
just to sort of pivot out of the uh the
burning hellscape that is tabletop
YouTube right now to [laughter] be
honest.
Uh, [gasps]
so if you would like Dear Michael here,
uh, he would, you know, as he is right
now, he looks amazing. You could prop
him up somewhere and just keep him like
this and he'll be a really cool
conversation piece in your house.
Alternatively, if you wanted to from
here build upon this and take the paint
job further, you absolutely could. He
is, I think, about Warlord Titan size.
So, you know, if you're really into one
