for today's Taiwan news, US President

Donald Trump told CNBC he may announce

new tariffs on semiconductors and chips

as early as next week. He also claimed

TSMC will invest $30 billion to build

the world's largest chip plant in

Arizona. Taipei prosecutors rated sites

linked to Juway Energy Coal Ltd for

illegally issuing securities and raising

over 100 million NTD without approval.

The company promised investors returns

of 25 to 42% and a three-year buyback

plan. Seven suspects, including the

company head, were detained after

investigation. Cath Pacific flight CX565

from Osaka to Taipei was delayed twice

with some passengers boarding at 6:30

p.m. Upon arrival, all checked luggage

was missing. The airline said bags would

be delivered to homes but gave no

further explanation causing passengers

to call it a nightmare flight. And in

global news, the Philippine and Indian

navies have sailed together for the

first time in the South China Sea as

President Ferdinand Marcos left Manila

Philippines has conducted maritime

cooperative activities with foreign

navies since late 2023 as part of its

push to counter China's expansive claims

in the waterway, including joint sales

with treaty ally the United States as

well as Japan, Australia, France, and

Canada.

Bronner said the idea for the two-day

joint sale came about when he met his

counterpart in India in March. Bronner

told reporters, "We did not experience

territorial and maritime disputes should

be resolved between the countries

directly involved and that no third

party should intervene. A 2016 ruling by

an international arbitral tribunal found

that Beijing's sweeping claims have no

basis under international law, a

decision China rejects.

South Korea's military said it had begun

removing loudspeakers along its border

with rival North Korea in a move aimed

at reducing tensions. The speakers had

previously been used to blast anti-North

Korean propaganda across the border, but

the South's new Liberal government

halted the broadcasts in June as a

consiliatory gesture. It aims to rebuild

trust and revive dialogue with

Pyongyang, which has largely cut off

cooperation with the South in recent

years. South Korea's defense ministry

said the physical removal of the

loudspeakers from the border was another

practical measure aimed at easing

tensions between the war divided corers

and that it does not affect the south's

military readiness. They did not share

specific details on how the removed

loudspeakers will be stored or whether

they could be quickly redeployed to the

border if tensions flare again between

the corers. There were no discussions

between the two militaries ahead of the

south's decision to remove the speakers.

North Korea, which is extremely

sensitive to any outside criticism of

its authoritarian leadership, and Kim

Jong-un, did not immediately comment on

the South Korean step.

Brazil. Brazil's prosecutors accuse

Bolsinaro of heading a criminal

organization that plotted to overturn

re-election bid in 2022. Monday's order

followed one from the top court last

month that required Bolsinaro to wear an

a global plastics crisis is costing

governments and taxpayers $1.5 trillion

annually as they try to cope with

escalating injuries, disability, and

deaths as the substance pollutes our

lands, seas, and bodies. Based on a

review of recent studies published by

the Lancet, plastic production is on

course to triple by60.

plastics treaty. A group of countries

including China, Russia, and Saudi

Arabia have opposed the measures,

instead lobbying for increased plastic

recycling.
