NARRATIVE TEXT - Pembahasan Lengkap Materi Narrative Text (Definisi, Struktur, dan Contoh)
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh Hello, welcome to Easy English Learning with me, Nurul In this video, I will explain about narrative text What is narrative text? The purpose of a narrative text How is the generic structure, the language feature, and the characteristics of the narrative text? And examples of narrative text Well, let's jump to the explanation
What is narrative text? Apa sih narrative text itu? Narrative text is a piece of text which tells a story to entertain the reader. It is a story with complications or problematic events and tries to find a solution to solve the problems.
So, narrative text is a story text that aims to entertain readers. In this text, the steps of the occurrence of a problem are told until the solution of the problem. So, narrative text is a text that contains a story about an event that has happened or has happened and its purpose is to entertain readers.
What I want to emphasize here is that narrative text is generally an imaginative story, but it shouldn't always be imaginative because the actual event can be a narrative text, for example, personal experience and science fiction. Next,
The purpose or social functions of narrative text is to entertain or to amuse the reader with a story.
So the basic purpose of a narrative text is to entertain and attract readers by presenting a story or event that has a problem that causes conflict and at the end of the story there is a resolution, whether it ends happily or sad.
So that you can get to know this type of text or even write a narrative text, let's see the generic structure of a narrative text. Generally, a narrative text consists of four parts, namely orientation, complication, resolution, and reorientation.
Orientation is one of the characteristics or structures of narrative texts that must be written at the beginning of a story. In orientation, it usually starts with the introduction of the characters, when an event happens, the background of the story, and other explanations so that readers understand and know the dimension of the story.
The next structure is complication. This complication is located after the orientation is complete. Complication consists of paragraphs that explain the beginning of the problem. This problem will also start a series of plots or story lines that will then continue in the conflict, climax and anticlimax of the story.
Generally, complications contain interactions between events. These interactions cause a conflict or confrontation. There are three types of conflicts that may occur in complications, namely natural conflict or behavior problems with nature,
Social conflict or conflict between the perpetrator and psychological conflict or the problem of the perpetrator with himself. Now, we continue to the third part, namely the resolution. This resolution is part of the paragraph that becomes the end of the story. Meaning, in this part there is a problem solving
in the complication that makes the story go to the end. So every problem that appears in the previous paragraph or in the complication, there must be a solution. It can be closed with a happy ending, it can also end tragically or sad, or it is also commonly called a sad ending.
The next part of the text is reorientation. This part is the closing sentence that tells the last condition of the character in the story or usually contains a moral message of the story. Oh yes, this part is also not mandatory in narrative text, so only optional, there may be and there may not be.
In conclusion, this narrative text can be interpreted as a curve. This part is the orientation, the beginning of the story that introduces who, what, when, when, and where a story begins.
then continue to the complication here the curve rises because here it is told from the beginning to the climax of a problem then the curve is getting lower because here it is already starting to be told the solution of the problem this part is also called resolution then at the end of the curve
The more it goes down, this is reorientation which usually contains moral messages from the story. Okay, I hope this explanation can be understood. If there is something that is not clear, you can ask in the comments column below this video. Now let's look at genres or types of narrative texts.
So this narrative text can be personal experience, fairy stories or fairy tale, folk tale, fables, myth, legends, science fiction, romance, and etc.
Where these types of texts are text in the form of stories that are told in a series of events, starting from the introduction of the character, the beginning of the problem, to its solution. Now let's take a look at the explanations of each of these texts.
The first is personal experience. This text is a story of personal experience with the purpose of entertaining readers. In it, it tells the beginning of a problem until its solution. Maybe you will ask, "Well, isn't it about telling about personal experience?" That's recontext.
So not always, huh? If your text or story follows the generic structure of a narrative text, where there is orientation, complication, and resolution, then personal experience can also be a narrative text. This is different from recontext, which simply tells your experience without having to make a sequence of the sequence of events.
no complication and no resolution. In other words, in personal experience in narrative text, there are problems that are told from the beginning to the end. While in recontext, it is pure to tell the experience, there should not be a problematic event in it.
The next genre of text is Fairy Stories or Fairy Tales. This type of narrative text is a fairy tale, a fantasy or fantasy story. Usually stories about greatness
or the magic of the main character in the story, for example Cinderella, Harry Potter, Aladdin, etc. So the characters in this type of text are usually described as great following the imagination or fantasy of the writer.
Next, there is also what is called a "Volktel". This Volktel is a story of people who have fallen and usually they are now really happening. For example, the story of Malin Kundang, the story of Sangku Riyang, or the formation of the pier.
Then there is also what is called Fables. Fables is a story whose character is an animal, such as Lion King, the shark, and others. Usually this is a children's story. Well, now we continue our discussion about the language features or the language of a narrative text. The first is Past Tense.
So, the tenses used in this narrative text is past tense Because it tells about something or an event that has happened or has been too much Because the form of past tense means the word used is the second form of the verb to
Next, the use of time conjunctions like when, then, suddenly, etc. Because this narrative text tells the sequence of events, it means there must be a time signal inside it.
from the beginning of the problem to the end of it so of course we have to use the conjunction words for example when, then, then, suddenly, finally, and so on
Third, there is an adverb of time. So generally at the beginning of the narrative text, the adverb of time is used, such as once you've been a time, a long time ago, one day, etc.
Then in this narrative text there must be a specific character, so there is a main character that has been introduced in the orientation. For example, the story of Cinderella, then the specific character is Cinderella. The story of the boat ride, then the specific character is Sankuria. Okay?
Next, the verb used in this text narrative is usually an action verb. Because this text narrative tells an event, it means there is an action in it. And lastly, because this text is for entertainment, the story is made as if the writer is telling it directly, so it uses direct speech. For example, it is said "snow had set" blah blah blah and etc.
and direct speech uses the present tense Now we will discuss the characteristics of narrative text First, narrative text tells a story or event in a short time Second, uses nouns or verb to replace the verb of an animal, person, or object in the story
Third, this narrative text is more of a folk story or has been known and developed in the community as a common story, although it can be repeated in a different version of the story. Next, the story elements consist of the time and place setting, the theme of the story, the story, the atmosphere of the story, the conflict, and its solution.
And finally, this narrative text can be arranged in a simple sequence or arranged from several complex sequences.
Well, this is an example of a narrative text, the title is Cinderella. Here you can see that the beginning of this paragraph is an orientation because it contains the introduction of the character.
Then continue with the complication section In this complication section, we can see that there is a series of incidents or problems that started with the royal family who had a dispute over the selection of the bride for the prince. It is said that Cinderella wanted to go, but there was a problem where her stepmother did not allow it.
Besides that, it is also told that Cinderella is crying. She wants to go but she also has to stay at home. Besides that, Cinderella also doesn't have a dress for the party. Then the fairy mother then changed Cinderella's appearance. Changing the dress completely with glass shoes. The fairy mother also changed the mouse to a white horse to take Cinderella.
This part is a resolution. Finally, Cinderella can go even though she has to come back before midnight. The last sentence is reorientation because it tells the last condition of the character in the story. Okay, I think that's all the explanation about narrative text.
