data mining has a high potential for

transformation in areas such as

people learn, predicting

learning outcomes, and understanding

real learning behaviors.

In this sense, educational data mining

can be used to design

better and smarter learning technologies

, as well as to

better inform learners and educators.

It is the field that allows us to discover

new and potentially useful information

from large amounts of data. It has been

used in numerous fields, including

the well-known cases of

shopping baskets, bioinformatics, and

counterterrorism investigations.

Recently, there has been increased

interest in using data mining

in educational research, focusing

on the development of

discovery methods that use data from

educational platforms and on using

those methods to better understand

students and the environment in which they

learn. The methods used in

data mining in education often

differ,

explicitly exploiting the multiple

levels of hierarchy present in the

data. Psychometric methods are often

integrated with machine learning methods

and data mining texts

to achieve the objectives. For example, by

obtaining data on how

students choose to use

educational software. It can be really useful

to consider data at different levels

about keystrokes,

student response level, class level, or

the entire school level. Other topics such as

time, sequence, or even

context play important roles in

the study of educational data.
