Summary

Effective astrological chart reading and transit management require separating zodiac sign traits from house topics, tailoring self-care during 12th house transits to your cusp's element, and mastering natal basics with one teacher before tackling predictive timing.

Understanding traditional house mechanics and element-specific self-care prevents personal burnout during tough transits while protecting beginners from common modern astrology misinterpretations.

12th House Transits & Water/Air Sign Strategies

watch

Kelly responds to a listener with Leo rising who experiences rough annual 12th house solar transits through Cancer. She details how the 12th house governs spiritual and psychological health, requiring lower workload intensity and quiet time during solar passages. She then provides self-care recommendations tailored to the element on the 12th cusp, noting water cusps need comforting, low-intensity movement like swimming or slow yoga, while air cusps need gentle, low-pressure intellectual engagement like solitary reading.

  • The 12th house represents a low-vitality sector where energy should be conserved rather than pushed.
  • Water sign 12th cusps benefit from soothing, fluid activities that remove daily friction.
  • Air sign 12th cusps require reflective intellectual input without high-stress social stimulation.

Provides direct, actionable strategies for handling annual 12th house transits based on zodiac elements.

8:16-12:24

12th House Strategies for Earth & Fire Signs

watch

Continuing her breakdown of 12th house cusps, Kelly details appropriate self-care for earth and fire signs. Earth 12th house cusps require tactile, grounding experiences like gardening, cooking from scratch, or slow nature walks. Fire 12th house cusps benefit from active movement like hiking or inspirational reading, as physical activity acts as a meditative output for fire energy.

  • Earth 12th cusps restore vitality through slow, tactile, hands-on physical activities.
  • Fire 12th cusps can handle higher-intensity movement as an active form of meditation.
  • Spiritual texts and uplifting philosophy nourish fire signs on the 12th house cusp.

Essential tailored advice for earth and fire sign risings handling 12th house activity.

12:24-15:30

12th House Shadows & Recommended Courses

optional

Kelly explains the psychological clearing process of 12th house transits, where past fears, painful memories, or unconscious 'monsters' resurface. She emphasizes that these shadows emerge so they can be integrated and released, freeing the individual moving forward. She finishes by citing her specialized 4.5-hour webinar series covering the 8th and 12th houses, 12th house planets, and house rulers.

  • 12th house transits surface hidden fears to integrate and clear internal emotional baggage.
  • Unconscious shadows emerge during 12th house activations to allow long-term spiritual healing.
  • Detailed webinars on the 8th and 12th houses are available for students seeking deeper instruction.

Provides helpful psychological context on 12th house transits along with course pitch details.

15:30-20:40

Collective Impacts of Air and Fire Transits

watch

Kelly addresses a question regarding the upcoming shift of major planets into fire and air signs over the next 12 to 18 months. She outlines how fire and air create a fast-paced, highly energized, and overstimulating climate that speeds up societal, technological, and creative changes. She warns that while this accelerates collaborative action on social issues, it also fans the flames of collective anger and social tension.

  • Fire and air sign dominance accelerates social momentum, technological growth, and human activity.
  • The combination of air feeding fire heightens collective anger and societal volatility.
  • Air/fire heavy natal charts feel natural in this atmosphere, while earth/water charts may feel overstimulated.

Explains the broad energetic shift shaping societal trends and collective dynamics over the next 18 months.

20:40-26:52

Evaluating Transits Across Quadruplicities

watch

Kelly breaks down how major transits impact personal charts by emphasizing sign modalities (cardinal, fixed, and mutable). Using Saturn in Aries as an example, she shows that it affects all cardinal placements (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) through hard aspects. Similarly, Uranus in Gemini impacts all mutable signs, and Pluto in Aquarius impacts all fixed signs, warning astrologers not to look only at matching elemental signs.

  • Transits from outer planets impact all signs within the same quadruplicity, not just matching elements.
  • Saturn in Aries directly triggers major transits for Cancer, Capricorn, and Libra placements.
  • Uranus in Gemini activates Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces placements across its 7-year passage.

Critical technical rule for properly assessing planetary transit aspects in client or personal charts.

26:52-33:04

Debunking Modern 'Natural Wheel' House Associations

watch

Kelly answers a question about interpreting charts where signs appear opposite their 'natural' houses, such as Libra on the 1st house and Aries on the 7th. She explains that the modern 'natural wheel' concept (equating Aries with the 1st house) is a 20th-century simplification not used in traditional astrology. She demonstrates how to blend Libra qualities with 1st house topics and Aries traits with 7th house topics independently.

  • The modern 'alphabet' approach associating 1st house with Aries is a recent simplification that distorts traditional reading.
  • Houses represent topic areas in life, while signs define the style and condition of how those topics operate.
  • A 1st house Libra seeks balance in identity/body, while a 7th house Aries seeks independent energy in partnerships.

Corrects a pervasive beginner mistake and explains fundamental traditional house synthesis.

33:04-40:18

Beginner Astrology Roadmap & Study Advice

watch

Kelly gives guidance to a beginner student asking how to navigate information overload. She advises focusing strictly on natal chart interpretation—houses, signs, planets, and aspects—before tackling predictive timing. She strongly recommends sticking to a single teacher's framework in the beginning and highlights recommended introductory texts by Channy Nicholas and Demetra George.

  • Master natal chart mechanics (houses, signs, planets, aspects) before studying predictive timing techniques.
  • Limit study to one teacher at a time to prevent conflicting frameworks and learning fatigue.
  • Recommended reading includes Channy Nicholas's 'You Were Born for This' and Demetra George's 'Ancient Astrology'.

Provides a clear study roadmap and trustworthy resource list for novice astrology students.

Key points

  • Tailor 12th House Self-Care to the Cusp's Element — Because the 12th house is a low-vitality sector governing the psyche and spirit, transits through it require scaling back commitments and adapting self-care according to the elemental sign on the 12th cusp.
  • Separate Zodiac Signs from House Meanings — Traditional astrology treats houses as distinct topic fields (e.g., identity, health, relationships) rather than equating the 1st house to Aries or the 7th house to Libra (the modern 'natural wheel' approach).
  • Transits Impact Entire Modalities, Not Just Matching Elements — Major planetary transits (like Saturn in Aries or Uranus in Gemini) activate all signs sharing the same quadruplicity—cardinal, fixed, or mutable—via hard aspects, not just signs of the same element.
  • Master Natal Interpretation Before Predictive Timing — Beginners should focus exclusively on combining houses, signs, planets, and aspects within a static natal chart before attempting complex timing techniques.
The 12th house just generally regardless of the sign that you might have there the 12th house is kind of a low vitality sector. Kelly
In traditional styles of astrology, we don't actually practice like that. Kelly

0:31

>> Hey there everyone and welcome to

0:33

another episode of the Kelly's Astrology

0:35

podcast. In today's episode, I am going

0:39

to answer a few listener questions. So,

0:43

we have a variety of questions that are

0:45

always coming in via, you know, various

0:48

comment sections for the podcast. And

0:50

every now and then I want to grab a few

0:52

and answer those questions live so you

0:54

can all get the benefit of the

0:56

questions. Before I dive into those

1:00

questions and my answers today, I want

1:02

to make sure that you know about my uh

1:06

once a year group mentoring program

1:08

which kicks off in August. Now this is

1:11

designed for intermediate or senior

1:13

students of astrology or new astrology

1:16

practitioners. The intention of group

1:18

mentoring is to give you support and

1:20

guidance on how to set up and grow your

1:23

astrology practice and also to make

1:25

space for you to practice your chart

1:27

interpretation and predictive astrology

1:29

skills. So, if that sounds like

1:31

something that you are ready for to help

1:33

you take the next step with your own

1:36

astrology practice, pop over to my

1:38

website, kelly'sastrology.com,

1:41

uh, where you can find out more details

1:42

and sign up before the end of July to

1:45

make sure you take advantage of the

1:46

early bird rate.

1:49

All right, team. So, a little something

1:51

different today. Uh, I'm definitely

1:54

having fun with trying out different

1:56

offerings in the podcast uh, format for

2:00

you. It's great to be able to have this

2:02

time to share with you regularly. And

2:05

so, today we're going to do something

2:07

that we haven't done for a while, which

2:09

is answer some listener questions. So,

2:12

I'm going to get straight into it. Our

2:15

first question,

2:17

oh, I loved seeing this one. It came in.

2:19

So, this is a question from Mlu W8218

2:24

and they ask, "I have a question that's

2:26

more general.

2:28

Do you have any tips for navigating

2:31

difficult transits?"

2:33

Such a big question, we could go

2:34

anywhere with it, but they do qualify

2:36

their question. As a Leo rising, Cancer

2:39

is my 12th house and I also have a sixth

2:42

house stellium. So, this sounds like

2:44

somebody with one of those Capricorn

2:46

stelliums.

2:47

I noticed that cancer season can often

2:50

be pretty rough for me, especially

2:53

physically and psychologically.

2:56

At the moment, I'm thinking that I

2:57

should try to do more meditation, maybe

3:00

exercise, and expect to have some

3:03

monsters rear their heads. But if you

3:05

have any other ideas for this or any

3:08

other tough transit, I'd love to hear.

3:10

Thank you for your question. Uh I had a

3:13

number of thoughts reading your

3:15

question. So I know you're asking about

3:18

difficult transits and then I also hear

3:21

you go on to qualify you know when plats

3:25

go through your 12th house that you find

3:27

that cancer season each year which is

3:29

basically the transit of the sun through

3:31

your 12th house each year that is

3:33

something that you find as to be pretty

3:35

rough pretty tough. So I want to say a

3:38

little bit about that. The reason I had

3:41

like such a fun response to your

3:42

question is that years ago I wrote a

3:44

blog post called the simplest transits

3:48

and it's still available on my website.

3:51

And in that I basically talk about

3:53

tracking transits from the sun and moon

3:56

which are not necessarily the most

3:57

dramatic life-changing transits but they

4:00

are the transits that affect us

4:02

dayto-day in the case of the moon as the

4:04

moon makes its way through our chart

4:06

through all 12 houses and also

4:09

monthtomonth. So we get this sort of

4:12

personal rhythm or calendar to the year.

4:16

One of the ways we can work that out is

4:18

based on the very simple transit of the

4:20

sun for your first house, your second

4:22

house, your third house, your eighth

4:24

house, and your 12th house as you're

4:26

asking about. And one of the things that

4:28

I did for many years and I still do

4:31

where I can today when the transiting

4:35

sun is in my 12th house, I try to take a

4:38

bit of a break. I kind of scale back

4:41

work commitments. I tend to spend more

4:43

time at home. I like to get really

4:46

quiet. I also for a period of time was

4:49

doing this when the sun went through my

4:51

sixth house because the sixth and 12th

4:54

houses are considered the trickiest, the

4:56

kind of lowest vitality in the chart.

4:58

The sixth house of course we know is

5:00

connected to uh problems with the body.

5:03

So health concerns, wellness issues, uh

5:07

uh you know just health and medical

5:08

matters that's all part of the sixth

5:10

house. And the 12th house is connected

5:13

to problems of the spirit. problems of

5:15

the soul or problems of the psyche if

5:17

you like. It's when our energy is

5:20

disturbed and we need to kind of uh

5:24

escape from our regular routines or

5:27

rhythms or we need to be away from our

5:30

regular responsibilities and even

5:32

sometimes in the 12th house we want to

5:34

be away from our regular locations and

5:36

places. So I relate to this question.

5:40

I've used a bit of timing around this

5:41

myself and so I think for Mlu W it

5:46

really makes complete sense that you

5:48

would find the transit of the sun

5:51

through cancer each year a bit funky for

5:53

you because as a Leo rising that puts

5:56

cancer in your 12th whole sign house and

5:59

you mentioned that you're thinking about

6:01

trying meditation. great tip for 12th

6:04

house uh transits or activations or even

6:07

12th house perfections if people are

6:09

using that as a timing technique. Um

6:12

maybe think about some exercise. Uh and

6:14

then you mention you're expecting to

6:16

have some monsters rear their heads and

6:19

then you ask if I've got any other

6:20

ideas.

6:22

So I think

6:24

taking care of ourselves per the sign on

6:27

our 12th house cusp is really important.

6:30

And what I mean by that is in your case,

6:32

you have a water sign on the 12th house

6:34

cusp. So, we're looking for kind of

6:36

water sign supports and that can mean

6:40

healing or therapeutic practices uh

6:42

because water, you know, loves that. But

6:45

water is also going to kind of want

6:47

comfort or ease. You know, water seeks

6:50

the the path of least resistance often.

6:53

And so, we do want to remove friction

6:55

from our lives if we have a water sign

6:57

on the 12th house. So this is any fire

6:59

sign rising. If you're a Sagge rising,

7:01

you have Scorpio there. Leo rising as

7:03

per this person has cancer there and

7:05

Aries rising of course will have Pisces

7:07

on the 12th. So we do want to think

7:09

about like comfort. We want to think

7:12

about that sort of safety net or

7:13

security blanket. In terms of movement

7:16

and activity if we've got water sign on

7:19

the 12th house, I would be thinking

7:21

gentle movement. Maybe movement that is

7:23

happening in water like swimming for

7:25

instance or movement that might have a

7:28

rhythmical kind of flow. So movement

7:30

that is set to music. But I wouldn't

7:33

necessarily especially for cancer I

7:35

wouldn't be thinking about super high

7:37

intense activity. The 12th house just

7:40

generally regardless of the sign that

7:41

you might have there the 12th house is

7:45

kind of a low vitality sector. And so if

7:47

we're thinking about movement as a

7:49

support for a 12th house transit or

7:52

activation, we want to keep the

7:54

intensity down, we want to keep the

7:56

frequency down. To me, this is like a

7:58

gentle walk in nature or it might be,

8:02

you know, a slow yoga or kind of

8:05

stretchy Pilates or, you know, something

8:08

where it's more in that low, it's kind

8:10

of low intensity, but it's like

8:12

nourishing movement rather than movement

8:14

that is depleting or draining for us.

8:17

Uh, okay. I want to respond to the rest

8:19

of the question, but I know we talked a

8:21

little bit about water signs on the 12th

8:22

house. What if you have an air sign on

8:24

the 12th house? So, if you have Gemini

8:25

on the 12th, which means you're a Cancer

8:27

rising, Libra on the 12th, which means

8:29

you're a Scorpio rising, or Aquarius on

8:32

the 12th, which means you're a Pisces

8:33

rising, we want to support the mind. So

8:36

when we do 12th house activities with an

8:38

air sign on the 12th house, we do want a

8:42

little bit of intellectual engagement

8:44

but probably not highly stimulating, you

8:47

know, large group activities. We might

8:49

be reading books. We could be doing some

8:51

research. We might be doing some writing

8:53

or reflection activities where we're

8:55

engaging the intellect, the air element,

8:58

but not in a high stress, high pressure

9:00

way. If you have an earth sign on the

9:03

12th house, so Taurus on the 12th, which

9:05

is if you're a Gemini rising, uh Virgo

9:07

on the 12th if you're a Libra rising or

9:09

Capricorn on the 12th if you're Aquarius

9:11

rising. If we're thinking about how to

9:13

support ourselves in our 12th house

9:16

transit, which the sun goes through

9:17

obviously all of our 12th house every

9:19

year. If you're earth sign on the 12th

9:23

house, we want to think about being in

9:25

your body. I think movement is a great

9:28

thing for earth signs on the 12th house,

9:30

but again in that gentle zone. I would

9:33

also be thinking about something that

9:35

you're doing with physical matter or

9:38

objects. So, this could be gardening. It

9:41

could be preparing food. It could be

9:43

building or constructing something where

9:46

there's a bit of a hands-on tangible or

9:48

tactile quality. But it's again, it's

9:51

something that you're doing as like a

9:53

meditative uh activity. rather than

9:57

something that has like high stakes,

9:59

high pressure. So for me, I think, you

10:02

know, earth signs on the 12, I'd be

10:03

like, get into nature, get into the

10:05

garden, maybe get into the kitchen and

10:07

do some food, you know, cooking of food

10:09

from scratch, like pull out a recipe or

10:11

something. That kind of slow,

10:14

methodical, tactile experience. If you

10:17

have an earth sign in the 12th house,

10:19

super important.

10:21

What sign have we forgotten? Fire signs

10:23

on the 12th. So, if you have Aries on

10:25

the 12th, so that means you're a Taurus

10:26

rising, Leo on the 12th, which means

10:29

you're a Virgo rising, or Sagge on the

10:31

12th, which means you're a Cap rising,

10:33

so fire sign on the 12th house. If we're

10:35

thinking about how to support that, uh,

10:37

for you, you definitely are going to

10:40

want some physical activity. Maybe you

10:43

want to go climb a mountain or do an

10:45

intensive hike or, you know, bushw walk

10:48

or something. Um you probably the fire

10:50

signs on the 12th house is the one group

10:52

of signs where we could have activity

10:54

that's a little bit more intensive

10:56

because for fire on the 12th house

10:59

movement itself can be meditative. So

11:02

movement that kind of takes you away

11:04

maybe you are going on this hike or

11:05

you're going on a camping trip something

11:08

that you're away but there is an

11:10

activity uh away from your regular place

11:13

if you like.

11:15

The other thing is that fire signs are

11:18

signs that are considered the element

11:20

that is closest to the divine because

11:22

fire always moves upwards. And so if you

11:25

have a fire sign on the 12th house and

11:26

you're having a 12th house transit like

11:28

the sun is coming through uh for its

11:30

annual passage or maybe you are Aries on

11:32

the 12th and you've got Saturn coming

11:34

through uh or maybe you have uh Leo on

11:38

the 12th and we have Jupiter and the

11:40

south node coming through.

11:42

All of those fire signs on the 12th

11:44

house are going to want like

11:46

inspirational experiences. So this could

11:49

be meditative practices and rituals. It

11:52

might be like a dedicated retreat

11:56

activity where there is that reflection

11:58

that is uplifting. It might be reading

12:01

you know the great philosophers or the

12:03

stoics or other inspirational texts from

12:07

spiritual figures. That would be

12:09

something that a 12th house fire sign

12:11

combination would really be moved and

12:15

uplifted by because keep in mind that

12:18

when we are dealing with difficult

12:19

transits in the 12th house, we are

12:22

trying to recover our spirit or kind of

12:25

reconnect energetically and intuitively.

12:29

And Mlu W also mentions that they expect

12:33

to have some monsters through their

12:34

heads. And I want to talk about that

12:36

because the 12th house is where some of

12:38

our kind of shadows or the sort of

12:41

unconscious things that unsettle us do

12:45

reside. And so when we're having 12th

12:47

house activity, we want to be aware that

12:50

it's like some of the shadows can come

12:52

forward. Not because, you know,

12:55

astrology in its timing tools is trying

12:58

to cause us harm or unsettle us in any

13:00

way, but because, you know, the stuff

13:02

that's shadowy that is kind of around or

13:05

within us that affects us, we don't want

13:08

to be affected by it without knowing

13:09

what it is. And so, when we have a 12th

13:12

house transit activation, it's a good

13:15

chance to kind of clear the cobwebs out

13:17

of your internal space, your inner

13:19

makeup. And that may be that there is

13:22

like a hidden kind of fear uh remnants

13:26

of past pain or old events that are

13:29

lingering. They can kind of resurface

13:32

and the intention is that we can sort of

13:35

interact with them in a way where we

13:37

might be able to heal or integrate or

13:40

release whatever is lingering from the

13:42

past so that we can clear that as uh so

13:46

it's not a thing that affects us going

13:48

forward. So sometimes we get 12 house

13:51

activations. We pull back from regular

13:53

everyday activities, experiences, even

13:56

locations, places. We pull back to be

13:59

with our inside self. Whether it is like

14:02

the monster within or whether it is just

14:04

restoring our spirit. Often the two go

14:07

hand in hand. As we kind of um slay the

14:10

dra slay the inner dragon, we can

14:12

recover our spirit. It's like that thing

14:13

I was always afraid of. It's just not

14:16

what I thought it was or it's not now

14:17

what it used to be and I I can be freed

14:20

from it basically. So hopefully that

14:23

gives some tips and thoughts for Mlu W

14:26

and anyone else who might be thinking

14:27

about how do I navigate that time each

14:30

year when the transiting sun comes

14:32

through my 12th house. So for each of

14:34

us, we know it's at least 4 weeks a year

14:36

where the sun kind of uh energizes and

14:39

lights up our 12th house in our chart.

14:41

Now for those of you who want more of a

14:43

deep dive on the 12th house, I have done

14:45

a series of webinars. Uh one is called

14:48

diving into the darkness and it's about

14:51

exploring the eighth and 12th houses.

14:53

Another one is about planets in the 12th

14:56

house which is literally what it says

14:58

running through people who have planets

15:00

in the 12th house and what this really

15:02

looks and feels like for their lives.

15:05

And then the final part uh in this

15:08

series on the 12 houses webinars is when

15:10

I look at the ruler of the 12th house.

15:13

So we can see how 12th house themes

15:16

might be connected to other parts of our

15:18

chart in life. So we'll link the uh

15:21

webinars below and whether MLW or anyone

15:24

else wants to go further with 12th house

15:27

explorations those webinars will take

15:29

you deep. That is uh more than 4 and 1/2

15:32

hours of teachings on the 12th house

15:34

there. Okay. Our second question is from

15:38

Chanden Badan. I hope I'm saying that.

15:41

Okay.

15:42

Uh and Chanden is saying, "I'm curious

15:46

about July and the following months

15:48

starting in July where we will see

15:50

everything move into fire and air signs.

15:53

How would you say this would impact

15:56

natal charts that have heavy fire and

15:59

air emphasis and also what kinds of

16:02

themes are we like to experience

16:03

collectively? Juicy question for sure. I

16:06

think I'll just say something brief

16:08

about the collective and then I really

16:10

want to dive in to what this might look

16:12

and feel like in different kinds of

16:14

charts. So collectively fire and air are

16:18

both hot signs and they combine to like

16:22

you know the air feeds the flames of the

16:24

fire so to speak. And so we're seeing

16:27

this sort of quickening this energizing

16:30

this highly activating and maybe a

16:32

little over stimulating energy coming in

16:35

collectively. Collectively, we are also

16:38

in the waxing or opening part of our

16:40

current longer Jupiter Saturn cycle. And

16:44

so it feels as though the collective

16:48

pace or the pace of social development

16:50

in society is accelerating because

16:53

that's kind of what the planets are

16:55

indicating. We have fast-paced creative

16:57

and technological advancements. our kind

17:00

of human psyche is really not able to

17:02

keep up with the amount of changes that

17:05

are taking place in a short space of

17:06

time. So collectively it feels like you

17:10

know the ethers are being whipped up.

17:12

The mood of the people is being

17:13

activated and stimulated. Some people

17:16

are coming together because they're

17:17

motivated around a collective goal for

17:19

the common good and they're pursuing

17:22

that. you know, so people who are

17:24

collaborating around climate change

17:26

issues or around social justice issues

17:28

or around wealth inequality issues.

17:31

We've seen some of these movements come

17:32

forward and there are many other

17:34

movements that will be coming forward.

17:35

That's just a few to mention here as a

17:37

as an example.

17:39

But we also have people coming together

17:41

around a wide range of ideas. So this

17:45

idea of you know finding people who

17:48

share passion fire for the same ideas

17:50

and interests air that you do and then

17:53

forming a collective to pursue that is

17:56

part of this. But when we get the winds

17:58

like whipping up the ether

18:00

think about what wind does to a fire. It

18:03

fans the flames and it makes it bigger.

18:05

And that also means that collective

18:07

anger is something that's getting bigger

18:09

as well. The heat here is like the

18:12

energy is rising and some people are

18:14

channeling that into productive and

18:16

constructive uh progress and momentum

18:19

and change and some people are coming

18:21

together just to be angry together about

18:23

the same things. So these are parts of

18:26

the kind of common collective experience

18:29

over the next 12 to 18 months as we have

18:33

Jupiter plus Saturn and the outer

18:35

planets all going through fire and air

18:37

signs. Uh I say 18 months because we

18:39

also have the nodes in fire and air

18:40

signs until early 2028 as well. Okay. Uh

18:45

and then the other part of the question,

18:47

how would this impact natal charts with

18:49

heavy and fire emphasis? So the simple

18:51

general response to that is that if your

18:54

chart is more fire and air emphasis like

18:58

your uh rising sign, your most important

19:00

planets u maybe all of your planets are

19:03

in air and fire. What it feels like is

19:05

it feels more familiar to you. It feels

19:07

like everybody else is now starting to

19:09

be on a vibe or an energetic level that

19:11

you are always existing at or with. And

19:15

so that can be especially motivating or

19:18

inspiring or uplifting. Even if your

19:21

chart is the opposite, if your chart is

19:23

heavy on the earth and water, which is

19:25

more my chart, uh what we're going to

19:29

experience is that what's happening in

19:31

the collective space isn't as familiar

19:33

to us, but we can't help but be swept up

19:36

in the energy of it all. And so, all of

19:39

us are kind of like, what do I want to

19:41

do with this kind of drive or enthusiasm

19:44

or motivation? Some of us already have a

19:46

lot of that and we're going to move

19:47

really quickly. Some of us don't have a

19:49

lot about air and fire and we're going

19:51

to be sort of we're going to be able to

19:52

move a little more quickly than we

19:54

typically would. So that's something to

19:56

keep in mind. But I wanted to go even at

19:59

a more specific or personal level

20:01

because I do think that different kinds

20:03

of charts will be responding to this

20:05

differently. So if your chart is really

20:07

strong in fire then you know the main

20:12

kind of themes are Jupiter Saturn we've

20:15

got Neptune for an ongoing point of view

20:18

but I'm going to say something about

20:19

Neptune different in a moment Jupiter in

20:22

Leo very helpful for fire placements and

20:26

air placements because of the aspect

20:28

patterns that Jupiter and Leo will form.

20:30

So Jupiter and Leo of course conjunct

20:32

planets in Leo but tr placements in

20:35

Aries and Sagittarius. Sexile placements

20:38

in Gemini and Libra. Jupiter and Leo is

20:41

opposing placements in Aquarius still an

20:44

opposition from Jupiter is going to be

20:46

considered helpful. And squares from

20:48

Jupiter can be a little helpful and

20:50

energizing and uplifting too. So, uh,

20:53

Taurus and Scorpio, even though they're

20:54

not fire and air, can still get some

20:56

benefit from Jupiter in Leo. Saturn in

20:59

Aries, a little bit of a different

21:01

kettle of fish because Saturn is a

21:03

different planet, different, you know,

21:04

planetary energy to Jupiter. And so even

21:08

though we're thinking a lot about

21:09

planets coming into fire and air signs

21:11

as a collective vibe, when I'm working

21:13

with clients at the personal level, it's

21:16

not, you know, Saturn's influence in

21:18

Aries is not restricted to the fire sign

21:21

of Aries. Saturn in Aries is definitely

21:24

having a strong impact on anyone who has

21:26

planets in Aries. But Saturn is in Aries

21:29

by transit also has a strong impact on

21:32

planets in the other cardinal signs. So

21:35

Saturn in Aries is having a strong

21:36

transit impact on planets that are in

21:38

Libra and on Cancer and Capricorn

21:41

placements as well. And so even though

21:44

Saturn's in a fire sign, which is

21:45

definitely contributing to the

21:47

collective, when I'm working with my

21:49

clients, I'm talking to a lot of people

21:51

who are having major Saturn transits to

21:53

their placements in Cancer or in

21:55

Capricorn or in Libra. And that's just

21:57

as important at that individual very

22:00

personal chart level. And so similarly,

22:04

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, even though

22:06

when we're considering the collective

22:08

vibe, looking at them in air and fire

22:10

signs, you know, collectively is

22:12

important, coming down to the individual

22:15

level in terms of how I think about

22:17

these planets might be affecting me

22:18

personally, my loved ones, and how I

22:21

work with students and clients, I'm

22:23

actually thinking about Uranus plus

22:25

mutable. I'm thinking about Neptune plus

22:27

cardinal and Pluto plus fixed. And what

22:31

that means is I'm thinking about how are

22:33

all the mutable signs of all elements

22:36

being affected by Uranus in Gemini.

22:39

Uh so Uranus in Gemini is going to

22:42

conjunct planets in Gemini. It'll square

22:43

planets in Virgo and Pisces and it's

22:45

going to be opposing planets in

22:46

Sagittarius. So even though there are

22:49

signs of all different elements in

22:50

there, they're all getting very strong

22:52

Uranus activations from Uranus in

22:54

Gemini. Similarly for Neptune in Aries

22:57

that is also affecting planets in

22:59

cardinal signs albeit planets at earlier

23:02

degrees of the cardinal signs than what

23:04

Saturn is activating. And of course the

23:06

fixed signs are not left out of this.

23:08

Pluto in Aquarius is affecting

23:11

placements in Taurus and Scorpio and Leo

23:13

as well as planets in Aquarius. So part

23:16

of my response here was just to kind of

23:18

flesh out, yes, we want to think about

23:21

this uh collective quality of fire and

23:24

air, the fast-paced development, you

23:26

know, socially in terms of culture, uh

23:30

creatively, technologally,

23:32

technologically, politically, on all

23:34

levels basically. But and when we come

23:36

down to the individual level, even if

23:38

you don't have a lot of fire and air in

23:40

your chart, you can still be activated

23:42

by different things that are going on.

23:44

further resources for people who might

23:46

want to get into this. If you're

23:47

particularly interested in the Saturn

23:49

transits, maybe you have a lot of

23:51

planets in cardinal signs, you will are

23:53

going to want my webinars on Saturn

23:56

transits to the planets, which takes a

23:58

look at transiting Saturn, aspecting

24:00

each of those visible original planets

24:03

with lots of tips on how to work with

24:05

that and how to manage that. If you're

24:07

just interested in understanding

24:08

transiting Saturn through the houses,

24:10

like now that Saturn is in your Aries

24:12

house, what is this going to mean for

24:14

the next two years? I have a separate

24:16

webinar called Saturn transits through

24:18

the houses, which goes through tips for

24:20

Saturn going through each of the 12

24:22

houses.

24:24

for Uranus transits. I actually just

24:25

wrote a blog post using the example of

24:28

transiting Uranus in Gemini aspecting

24:31

the Saturn placement for anybody who has

24:35

Saturn in Virgo, Saturn in Gemini,

24:37

Saturn in Sagittarius, and Saturn in

24:39

Pisces. So, if you have Saturn in a

24:41

mutable sign, one of the most important

24:43

transits I work with with clients is are

24:45

we having transiting Uranus make one of

24:48

those more dynamic aspects to natal

24:50

Saturn? And if you are Saturn in a

24:53

mutable sign person, you're coming up

24:54

for that over the next 7 years at some

24:57

point. And in the free blog post on

24:59

Uranus in Gemini transits to mutable

25:01

Saturn, I run through what to expect,

25:04

how to work with it, and also some dates

25:06

for those of you who have Saturn in the

25:09

early degrees of a mutable sign and give

25:11

you the timelines for that.

25:13

Okay. So, thank you for your question.

25:15

Hopefully, that's given you a few ideas

25:17

about the fire and air signs. I am in

25:20

the middle of putting my weekly forecast

25:23

together for my private membership and I

25:26

just want to point out that in July we

25:28

do have this real emphasis on fire and

25:31

air. I mean it's ongoing from July. Um

25:34

but in July we have Mars in the mix as

25:36

well. Once we get to around the 11th of

25:39

August, Mars moves into a water sign

25:41

which is going to cool things down a

25:43

little bit. I know Mars is not going to

25:45

be able to balance out Jupiter, Saturn,

25:47

and the outer planets, but it does take

25:49

a piece of that intensity off, but

25:52

nonetheless, you are spot on, Chandan,

25:55

that for the next 12 to 18 months, we

25:57

have this excess of major planets in

26:00

fire and air signs, and things are being

26:02

whipped up, moving quickly, that sense

26:05

of adventure, uh, willingness to take

26:08

risks to kind of roll the dice and see

26:10

what happens. Fire and air are really

26:12

are forward-looking and they are willing

26:15

to kind of go for it. So maybe that's a

26:17

message that you or someone else

26:18

listening needs to hear today. It's okay

26:21

time to give things a shot. All right,

26:25

next question.

26:27

We are going to take a little look at

26:30

this question that says,

26:32

"How do you interpret a ch?" So this is

26:34

from Angela M1702.

26:38

And Angela says, "How do you interpret a

26:40

chart where the signs are housed in

26:43

their opposing traditional houses? Uh, I

26:47

especially have trouble with first house

26:49

Libra, 7th house Aries. Thank you." So,

26:52

this is a great question cuz it gives me

26:54

an opportunity to clarify how I work

26:56

with astrology and hopefully help with

26:59

some confusion that Angela is having and

27:01

some of you might also be having. So in

27:06

very uh recent times relative to the

27:09

history of astrology, this approach to

27:13

understanding a chart that is called

27:15

maybe the natural wheel or the natural

27:17

associations has come to be very popular

27:20

and I think that's what's being

27:21

referenced here where you know Aries is

27:23

associated with the first house or Libra

27:26

is associated with the 7th house. In

27:28

traditional styles of astrology, we

27:30

don't actually practice like that. And

27:32

up until maybe 100, maybe 130 years ago,

27:36

most astrologers didn't practice like

27:38

that. That's what I mean by how new it

27:40

is. Remember, astrology itself uh is

27:42

about as we practice it today

27:44

recognizably is about 2 and a half

27:46

thousand years old. So, in the last 100

27:48

years, this one thing has become really

27:50

popular and it's kind of a simplified

27:53

sort of ABC style of astrology. I always

27:56

encourage students to leave that behind

27:58

as they are dedicating themselves to

28:00

more serious studies of a chart. What

28:03

you learn when you dive into studying

28:07

astrology is that each of the 12 houses

28:10

has a set of qualities and traits and

28:13

characteristics, a quality of energy

28:16

that is unique unto itself. So what that

28:19

means is the first house is about your

28:22

identity, your personality. It's about

28:24

your body. It's about how you meet

28:26

things. That's what the first house,

28:27

there's some basics about what the first

28:29

house is about. How you go about that,

28:32

what your body is like, how you see

28:35

yourself or understand yourself, how you

28:38

meet the world at that core essence is

28:41

defined and colored and flavored by the

28:44

sign that you have on your ascendant on

28:46

your first house. And you won't

28:49

necessarily be impatient or highly

28:51

enthusiastic or independent in the way

28:54

that you address those topics unless you

28:57

have Aries on the first house. You know,

28:59

think about somebody who might be a

29:00

Scorpio rising. They are going to be

29:03

much slower about beginnings or moving

29:05

forwards. Their body is going to have a

29:08

cooler, wet quality to it because that

29:11

is the nature of Scorpio. Somebody who

29:14

might have Capricorn on the first house

29:17

is going to have more of a grounded

29:20

maybe structured practical quality. Uh

29:23

more restraint is going to be part of a

29:26

core part of their personality because

29:27

that is the nature of Capricorn. So for

29:30

Angela M and anyone else getting started

29:32

with astrology, I'd really encourage you

29:34

to think about the signs and their

29:37

qualities as distinct and different from

29:40

the houses and their topics and their

29:43

qualities. And when you do that, it

29:45

becomes much easier to think about

29:48

things like Libra on the first house or

29:50

Aries on the 7th house because in that

29:52

situation, we're thinking about okay,

29:54

first house, health and the body. That's

29:56

one thing the first house is about. What

29:58

might Libra tell us about health in the

30:01

body that we might want to have a

30:03

balanced approach to our like food or

30:06

movement rituals? Uh Libra in the body

30:09

is connected to the kidneys. So there

30:11

may be something about the kidneys or

30:13

the systems of the kidneys that are

30:16

highlighted for a Libra rising.

30:19

When we think about it from a

30:20

personality point of view, a Libra

30:22

rising person might have an orientation

30:25

towards collaboration or teamwork, which

30:28

is very different from how someone with

30:30

Aries on the first house might operate.

30:33

And then if we think about the seventh

30:34

house as a part of a chart that

30:36

describes relationships or primary

30:38

partnerships, significant other people,

30:41

if we have Aries there, it's actually

30:43

telling us that when it comes to

30:45

relationships, we want that independent

30:48

energy or that more active energy, that

30:50

fire sign Aries to be a part of our

30:53

relationships. We either want a partner

30:55

that we can go and do physical activity

30:57

with or we want to have a partnership

30:59

with someone where each person's

31:01

independence and autonomy is really

31:03

supported. And so we're thinking about

31:06

what is Aries about and what is the

31:07

seventh house about and how can we build

31:09

some keyword combinations of those two

31:12

pieces. Now this piece of understanding

31:16

what are the 12 houses about as like

31:18

empty spaces and then what are the 12

31:21

zodiac signs about in you know unto

31:23

themselves. That is material that I

31:26

teach students in my practical beginner

31:29

astrology course which is a six-week

31:31

training that gives you these

31:33

foundational

31:35

uh teachings around uh how a birth chart

31:38

is put together. So in that course you

31:40

will learn the all about the 12 houses

31:43

in depth, all about the 12 zodiac signs

31:45

in depth and you'll learn exactly what

31:47

you're asking Angela which is how do I

31:50

put this together? So as part of your

31:52

coursework in that training you will

31:55

have homework activities where you're

31:57

asked to blend what if somebody has

31:59

Sagittarius on the 11th house or cancer

32:02

on the 2nd house. How do we understand

32:05

somebody's attitude to money and income

32:07

or spending and saving habits which are

32:08

all second house things if they have

32:10

cancer on the second house? How might it

32:12

be different if they have Sagittarius on

32:14

the second house? So these are all the

32:16

things that we learn in beginner

32:17

astrology class. So Angela, I hope

32:20

[clears throat] um my answering your

32:21

question has helped given you some tips

32:23

and guidelines. But if you or anyone

32:25

else would like to go further with this

32:27

approach, I will pop the link for my

32:29

practical beginner astrology class in

32:31

the show notes below. and I'd love to

32:33

see you there. Okay. And then that kind

32:36

of leads into our final question today

32:38

from Anmarie Rig 3287.

32:42

Anmarie says, "Do you have any tips for

32:45

a novice astrology student? There is so

32:48

much information. What do you suggest to

32:51

focusing and mastering as a beginner?"

32:53

Uh, and Anmarie very kindly says, "I

32:56

admire you so much. Thanks. Thank you

32:57

for your kind words, Anie. That's lovely

32:59

to hear. I have been teaching astrology

33:02

students for

33:05

more than 20 years now and so I can

33:08

certainly share with you the tips that

33:10

have been most helpful for the students

33:12

over the years. First up

33:16

I have so many tips I have to pick a

33:18

first up. Okay. So in the beginning what

33:21

you want to work on is interpreting a

33:23

birth chart. I know everybody wants to

33:25

jump into timing but you need to

33:27

understand a birth chart. what's in a

33:29

chart, how it works before we can do

33:32

timing. So, what that means is

33:34

understanding the 12 houses, the 12

33:36

signs, the planets and aspects. They're

33:40

kind of the four topics, the four core

33:43

essential topics that you will need to

33:45

get into the basics of chart

33:47

interpretation. There are additional

33:50

themes that you can add in in things

33:52

like planetary condition or planetary

33:54

strength using the dignity system uh and

33:58

things like that. So you can certainly

33:59

weave those components in but at as a

34:02

very you know key uh beginning place we

34:05

need to be able to memorize and know

34:08

what each of the 12 houses about. How

34:11

each of the 12 zodiac signs kind of

34:13

operates and functions and what the 10

34:16

planets the the main planets that are

34:18

used which is the seven visible original

34:20

planets plus the three modern planets.

34:23

We need to understand the planets,

34:26

their traits, their tendencies, the way

34:28

their energy can express. And then we

34:31

have to be able to combine them. So we

34:33

have to be able to say, I know what the

34:35

essence of Mars is, but we also then

34:37

have to be able to say how Mars in

34:38

Cancer is different from Mars in

34:40

Sagittarius or how Mars in Pisces is

34:44

unique compared to Mars in Virgo. And so

34:47

all of that interpretive information,

34:49

that is the starting place. And once you

34:52

can do all of that with a birth chart,

34:54

then you're ready for timing, which is

34:56

when we add in extra components or

34:58

features depending on the timing

35:00

techniques that we are using. So that's

35:04

kind of the the topics to focus on as a

35:06

beginner. How do you do that when you're

35:08

a beginner? Because it is very

35:09

overwhelming when you realize there's

35:12

more to astrology than just your sun

35:13

sign and you're curious to learn that.

35:16

Often people come to astrology because

35:18

they want to understand themselves. They

35:20

want to understand their loved ones.

35:22

Some people come to astrology because

35:23

they want to develop their skills and

35:25

become an astrologer themselves. But

35:27

many people are studying astrology for

35:29

personal growth and self-development.

35:31

They won't necessarily want to make a

35:33

career of it. You're welcome to make a

35:35

career of it if you want. Uh but

35:37

learning it either way is the key. So,

35:40

how do you do this? I usually suggest

35:44

find an astrologer practitioner whose

35:48

style and energy you resonate with and

35:52

take every course they offer.

35:55

If they teach, assuming they teach, if

35:57

you find an astrologer that you really

35:58

resonate with, you enjoy their style and

36:00

their approach and they're not actually

36:02

teaching, ask them for their

36:04

recommendations. If they are someone

36:05

that's teaching, sign up for their

36:07

course. And what I'm trying to say here

36:10

is don't try and learn from 10 different

36:13

astrologers all at once in the

36:15

beginning. Pick one astrologer or one

36:18

style of astrology and take whatever

36:20

they have to offer so that you can build

36:23

a solid foundation. Once you get into

36:26

astrology, you kind of never leave it.

36:29

And so there will always be other

36:31

techniques, different specializations,

36:34

different modalities, different branches

36:36

of astrology that you can dive into. But

36:39

I usually suggest to novice or beginner

36:42

students, don't try and do too much too

36:44

soon because it is very easy to get

36:46

overwhelmed because this subject is

36:49

huge. It feels endless. So if you're,

36:53

you know, wanting to take classes and

36:55

things like that, find someone whose

36:56

style you enjoy and begin at their

36:59

beginning place and just follow the

37:00

pathway that they have laid out for

37:02

students. Once you get to the end of

37:04

that, you will be well placed to go and

37:07

learn from other teachers and to adjust

37:10

what you've learned from one teacher

37:11

with another. It's too confusing to try

37:13

and learn different things from

37:14

different teachers at the same time

37:18

and students get really overwhelmed when

37:19

they do that. Another way to approach it

37:22

is to grab some books that are going to

37:25

be helpful for laying down a good

37:27

foundation for the absolute beginner. A

37:31

really fun starting place is a book

37:33

called You Were Born for This by Channy

37:35

Nicholas. It is a great introduction to

37:38

a chart, how it works, with lots of

37:41

really insightful interpretations for

37:43

planets in different signs and houses.

37:45

It's not necessarily going to be

37:47

teaching you all the things about

37:50

reading a chart, but it teaches you the

37:52

depths of your own chart, which is a

37:53

great starting place. After that,

37:56

there's lots of places you could go, and

37:58

I do have some books that I recommend.

38:00

I'm going to link in a blog post in the

38:02

show notes below. Two books that I'm

38:05

loving and recommending to the serious

38:07

student of astrology these days is

38:10

ancient astrology volumes one and two by

38:12

Dimmitra George who is one of my

38:14

teachers. Now these books are incredibly

38:17

comprehensive. They will have more than

38:19

the average beginner will need, but

38:22

they're also books that have great

38:24

information for the beginner, the

38:26

serious beginner student, and they will

38:29

keep you going for years because of the

38:31

depth of information in them. So, I

38:34

think that's a couple of recommendations

38:36

I want to suggest. So, you can always

38:38

start with a book or a couple of books.

38:41

Uh when you're ready, find a teacher who

38:43

offers classes and training in a style

38:46

of astrology that you're interested in

38:48

and spend one or two or three or four

38:50

years with that teacher absorbing all

38:53

the wisdom they have to offer and then

38:55

you have the foundation to kind of go

38:57

anywhere you want with your astrology.

38:59

So if you're interested in learning from

39:02

me, I do have a six week practical

39:04

beginner astrology training program.

39:06

We'll add the link in the show notes

39:08

below. I do a once a year intake into my

39:12

full 18-month training program that is

39:15

happening in September. And so if that's

39:18

of interest to you, I'll pop the full

39:20

training program uh details in the show

39:23

notes uh below as well. Thank you so

39:26

much for your question, Anmarie, and I

39:28

wish you all the best on your journey

39:30

with learning astrology. It is

39:32

incredibly rewarding. I started studying

39:34

astrology as a child. Very weird, uh,

39:37

very different from the family I grew up

39:39

in and I have been very lucky and

39:41

blessed to have been able to dedicate my

39:44

career to this wonderful craft. I know

39:47

that studying astrology is incredibly

39:49

rewarding. It is very affirming. It also

39:52

creates more compassion and it can be a

39:56

potential career path in the future if

39:58

that's what you're interested in. But

40:00

even if we don't go to that level,

40:02

learning astrology helps us understand

40:04

ourselves and our loved ones better. And

40:06

who doesn't want to have a better

40:08

understanding of the people around us?

40:10

So, thank you to everyone who uh shared

40:13

their questions today. Hopefully, uh me

40:15

answering these questions has given you

40:17

some insights into the different ways

40:19

that I think about astrology and charts

40:21

and timing and some of the different

40:23

things that we can be doing even at that

40:26

week to week, month-to-month level. I

40:28

always appreciate you listening and

40:31

following along on the podcast. So, if

40:32

you are enjoying it, please uh hit the

40:35

bell or the button or the subscribe

40:36

option so that you can get notifications

40:39

uh when future episodes drop. All of my

40:42

courses and classes are posted over at

40:44

kellysastrology.com.

40:45

So, if you need anything from today's

40:47

episode, pop over there. Thanks so much

40:50

for joining me this week, team. If you

40:52

have questions that you would like me to

40:53

consider in a future episode, pop them

40:55

in the comments section below. All

40:57

right, that's it from me. Until next

40:59

time, [music] take care.
